  1. The last season was too quick of a wrap up, and their return home was rushed and felt forced. But the Borg arc throughout the series was awesome. "Janeway" - grumbling Borg Queen.
  2. I was very leery of Solo, but I really loved it. The actor who plays Solo is not Harrison Ford, but on occasion he does channel the Solo character. And Lando is just awesome. Totally awesome. Don't give it up just yet. It's probably my favorite film after the original trilogy. It, along with Rogue One are really much better prequels than I, II, III.
  3. I really liked Solo. but everything else is.. meh. I love Voyager (watching it now, and yes, it's a Borg episode). If you do watch more, find a viewers guide online. Its the only way I got through DS9. And ended up liking it.
  4. I hate Klingon storylines. Although Undiscovered Country was surprisingly good (especially the version with the Scooby Doo ending - cut in some releases). But I love the Borg stories.
  5. Well, my favorite Star Trek movie is First Contact. Any commentary on the Borg?
  6. I think Trump gave him an out. He can still gain international recognition and respect but not have nukes. I actually think it's a good deal for both sides.
  7. " God said that the rest of us are abominable " " Then again, we Protestants, even we Evangelicals, do give a good measure of authority to those 4th century creeds " And I think that is why God condemns the creeds (not you). They are extra Biblical authority, established by men, not God through prophets. And yes, I know there is debate on whether that their role is, but I have heard the reason Mormons are heretical is that we don't accept the creeds. Again, proving my point.
  8. I always interpreted the curse as just a ramification of entering the mortal world. Adam is cursed with having to work and sweat for his food, and Eve will have kids and suffer in child birth. So, they both are booted from a life of luxury. So is it really a punishment or just a natural ramification of their new state?
  9. Because they knew the laws would be used against them and not the aggressors.
  10. Has he threatened you with violence? If so, he may very well be convicted and lose his rights to own a firearm.
  11. Iran and NKorea have openly engaged in rhetoric that they will destroy their peaceful neighbors. We don't allow people who actively want to murder people guns. We have due procees, or should, to deem such individuals unworthy to own a weapon, and we currently ban convicted felons from owning firearms. Same thing with nations. We have judged Iran and NKorea as guilty and not worthy to have weapons of mass destruction.
  12. I think it's universal and conditional. Christ paid for the sins of the world. Every single sin, regardless. But we cannot receive the blessings of that atonement without repentance and covenant.
  13. The house analogy does not imply that you just get a house for not spending. Lamen and Lemual did all that their father asked. But it does require that we learn to be stewards of what we are given, and use it wisely. We get the house, not because we followed the rules, but because we learned to run the house correctly.
  14. You can never work off the debt. It is too great for you to ever repay.
  15. Depends on what you mean by cleansing and purifying us from sin? The act of atonement was a single point in time, 2000 years ago. All sin was taken upon by Christ. Whether we benefit from that, is up to us. Let me see if I can give you a better analogy. Say you have a large amount of credit card debt. Your father says he will pay off the debt, and continue to pay it off, as long as you agree to the stipulation that you live within your means to a sufficient level and then he will let you live in his guest house. He paid the bank, they are no longer in the picture. The debt now lies only with your father. He continues to pay your debt, but if you spend like a drunken sailor, you can't move into the guest house. And you certainly cannot inherit the main house, since you have not learned to live within your means. But the debt is still paid.
  16. Jesus paid for our sins over 2000 years ago. He felt our pain, our suffering regardless of whether we repent or not. He paid for the sins of the world, not the sins of the righteous. The price is paid, the debt is paid, but we still have to act to receive it.
  17. My mother was on a general board in the 70s, with the express mission to reach out to people who had fallen through the cracks. She helped implement prison ministries, find people on the rolls who hadn't been to church in a while, or who had moved. The minister program I feel, needs to be about reaching out to people who aren't recognized by the members on any given Sunday. The bishop probably doesn't even know all of the members on the rolls, let alone the members who have moved into an area but are so inactive that they won't have their records forwarded. And I do think we need to incorporate our socializing with inactives and non-members in mind. We seem to have lots of church activities that would be great for non-members to attend, but no one ever hears about them. Trunk or Treat is pretty popular here, but only active ward members know about it. Bar-b-ques. Church grounds clean up day (which could be coordinated with other churches, and we all get together and clean up each others yards). Firesides. Seems I only hear about the ones where someone famous is involved, which is fine, but shouldn't we have uplifting and inspiring events, even if they aren't directly church related? Relief Society quilting and crafting. Sorry if this sounds anti-feminist, but this was huge when I was a kid, and I think it's a great way to socialize. Even as a small kid, it was fun to get together with the other kids who also were stuck hanging out with mom. Church basketball Roadshows Scouting (although we'll see what that evolves into). Stake dances Every church has a cultural center, and the older ones had a full stage, meant to put on uplifting and entertaining programs, but not just for the ward members. The early church didn't have ward buildings like that. They had tabernacles, which was kind of like a super stake center, but as we have grown, we now have individual chapels, that act as a multipurpose building. The cultural hall was the best part of church when I was a kid. It was the social center of church life. I think we need to bring that back and expand it. Every non-member should know that the Mormons have it going on! And they should know they are welcome to our functions. I feel, especially in less LDS centric areas, this just isn't done. I want our churches to be community hives of activity, for both members and non-members alike. There are many people who don't want to attend church on Sunday but are longing for community outreach and not getting it.
  18. See, I believe the atonement covers all sins, everywhere, past and future, repentant or not. However, I believe we must believe in Christ to receive the blessings of the atonement, and further, we require covenant (baptism) to receive even more blessings. The atonement is universal, but our reception of it is not.
  19. Does the atonement of Christ cover the unbaptized?
  20. I have had incidents where someone has reminded me of something that happened in my earlier life and then suddenly it all comes back to me. I have other parts of my life I can't remember at all. For example I remember the year I was a Junior in college and had to help with the graduation because I worked on campus at the time, but I don't remember a thing about my own graduation at all. I don't remember the venue, or walking across the stage or anything. I don't know why. I wonder if I missed it for some reason, but I don't remember that either. I do remember sitting on a couch in my basement when my grandpa was putting decorative tiles on the ceiling. I was probably less than 2 years old. But I believe all of my memories will be restored, to the detail where I will know every name of every person I ever met, every detail of every event in perfect clarity.
  21. The worthiness interview isn't for the bishop to catch you sinning. It is to make you accountable to yourself.
  22. I've only got three. Canada, Mexico and the Netherlands. Mexico was a quick trip to Tijuana so I don't really count that as culturally significant. I loved Amsterdam but could never live there. Canada was beautiful (Vancouver and I really loved Victoria).
  23. Ooh. Math. Say I put a single item into a bucket, and create 100 new items. Then I take one of those items into a bucket, and create another 100 items. 1/100, 2/200, 3/300... etc. How many items get put in the bucket? All of them. Infinity is a crazy thing.
  24. I didn't like going to church because the other kids were kinda mean. I just didn't have any good friends at church. If I had, I would have liked going a lot more.
