  1. It's still a rather poorly designed exercise that immediately runs the risk of offending Christians. I know that being offended is a choice, however we are also instructed to avoid anything that could lead to offending others whenever possible. The lesson itself should have sent up red flags as soon as the school learned of it, however long ago that was. There are countless other ways to begin the discussion this exercise was intended to initiate.
  2. As for people not laughing at funny stuff I write, I know it happens, but I usually forget what I wrote on a thread unless I'm really involved in the discussion, or with a specific person within that discussion. So the question could then become, when have people not laughed at funny stuff I wrote, then further, does it count if I don't remember writing it?
  3. This is a very clear, and instructional display of pride, arrogance, and ultimately enmity. Not just at the way the Church is run, or it's doctrines or policies, but enmity aimed directly at Christ and Heavenly Father. It takes some gall to stand up and proclaim that Christ isn't running things the right way, but then it's happened before, when Israel insisted on having a king. Ultimately the LORD relented and let them have their way. I don't see it happening this time though. Those that feel strongly enough will eventually remove themselves from the Church.
  4. Those that need to be weeded out will do so to themselves at the right time. It's how God works.
  5. If anything I'd say the OP is a Jeff Mormon....
  6. I think it's more along the lines of the fact that we aren't doing all we can with the doctrine we have right now. Do we really think we're ready for more on top of it? I think it is very much in not only God's wisdom but very much his mercy also that we haven't been given any more at this point. We've got a lot of catching up to do with what we have now.
  7. Because as far as we've been able to determine, God is more than content with the KJV as the bible we use it. For anything further, ask God in prayer.
  8. Tombstone I know, R movie....but one of the best western movies made in years.
  9. I was laughed at 316 times in 180 threads. I think I'm doing okay....unless they were threads I didn't intend to be funny in.....hmmmm
  10. I absolutely agree with this. At the same time, who knows what the actual machinations were that allowed such control. It could have been that Jesus and Heavenly Father both knew precisely what actions would prompt their reaction to take Jesus into custody. It could have been something far more spiritual that we don't understand at this point. What is clear throughout Christ's ministry, however, is this; at all times Christ and Heavenly Father were always in control. Nobody could derail the process once it had begun regardless of what was tried.
  11. I have had some fairly sacred experiences in my life that were clearly related to it, but no, I don't think I have witnessed it at this point. Nonetheless, there is no doubt in my heart about its reality and essential application to my life :)
  12. Just a plain dish of lime green jell-o with a layer of whipped cream on top, sprinkled with crushed walnuts. It's how I was raised with the traditional dish. Occasionally mom would put carrots in it, but I didn't care for that variety for some reason. I'm the only kid in our family that immediately liked pickled beets, and I took easily to most every fruit or vegetable from very early on, except tomatoes for some reason. Go figure
  13. There is a chance N. Korea is serious, or even worse, talk themselves into becoming serious, as in what happened with the Lamanites here and there in the Book of Mormon. A couple other observations, South Korea has a more than adequate military prepared to handle anything North Korea does, up to and including all out war, whether we assist them or not. The real danger is with Kim Jong Un believing his own hype. He's not that experienced, and while his father was far more skilled a leader, especially in the skill of rhetoric, there is a danger of him painting himself into a corner that all but forces his hand to act. My hope is that those around him help him keep a lid on the pot, so to speak, if he cannot do so himself.
  14. It just goes to show that while we have a great deal in common when viewed as a religion, on an individual basis, there's no such thing as a 'typical mormon'. This is also the point of the I'm a Mormon ads, I believe. As long as you are living in harmony with the Gospel of Christ as best you can, there's no need to worry. Take me for example...I can't stand shredded carrots in my lime green jell-o, but whipped cream and crushed walnuts....heck yeah!!!
  15. Shame on me for expecting a thread about tasty yellow marshmallow birds....Happy Birthday!!!!
  16. Give someone enough networking cables and they'll take themselves off the internet?
  17. I agree with the statement exactly. What's comforting is that this is the conclusion I arrived at years ago. Civil discussion please. Sorry if this is a re-post.
  18. Um, the separation of the physical from the spiritual is what defines mortal death. Without a spirit to give it life, what purpose or use is a physical body? Immortality means the body and spirit will be united forever, to never be separated again.
  19. Colomb's frustration comes from the domino effect H&R Block's error has caused and said the only compensation he's been offered by H&R Block for the delay is a $60 refund on the software he used to file taxes. Sounds to me like he bought their software and prepared his taxes himself at home. Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but that's what I see. I didn't get charged 60 bucks to use their software when I went to their offices. I got charged for their entire professional services which was twice that if I recall right. Just sayin'
  20. okay, during Christ's mortal ministry, he was spiritually innocent due to his divine nature and freedom from sin. However his intended mission required that he be capable of both sin and death. In order for that to happen he could not be spiritually or physically perfect. Perfection, by definition, indicates a state of unchanged existence. After all, if it's perfect, it's as good as it can possibly be. If it were possible to be better, it wouldn't be perfect. If it were less than it could be, it wouldn't be perfect either. Thus, a being capable of change cannot, by definition, be perfect. You and I are not perfect because we can improve and degrade both spiritually and physically. So, during Christ's ministry he was spiritually innocent, but not perfect. His freedom from sin was as good as it could ever be. However, his body and spirit were still both capable of being less or greater than they currently were. As I said earlier, he had to be subject to physical death in order to die. A perfect body cannot die. He had to be capable of sin in order to be tempted. A perfect being cannot sin. This is part of the promise of immortality and salvation given to us through the resurrection. This is precisely why in the gospels Christ never equates himself as equal with the father during his mortal ministry, but instead demonstrates his subjectivity to the will of the father in all things. Then in 3 Nephi we read the verse where Christ says "Be ye therefore perfect, even as I, or your Father in Heaven is perfect. It was not until after his resurrection that Christ became a fully and whole perfected being. Again, this is part and parcel with the doctrine of resurrection available to us all because Christ made it available to us through his own process of perfection on our behalf.
  21. There are a lot of things about America that I don't like right now. Much of it has to do with the Federal Government and what it has become as opposed to what it was at the beginning and what was intended by the framers of this nation. However, like Pam, I love the country itself and what it represents, I can't think of leaving this country.
  22. As far as I have known, the difference is quite deliberate and for a good reason. In Matthew, Christ was yet mortal, thus not perfect. He was very much capable of physical death; something he demonstrated as an essential part of the Atonement. However, in 3 Nephi, Christ was resurrected, and thus not only perfect spiritually, but physically as well, no longer subject to mortality or any of its laws, including death of any kind.
  23. Prophecies continue to be fulfilled and miracles of faith continue to occur. These truly are wondrous times.
