  1. How does gambling, "make other people lose"? Thank you for your input. Regards, Kawazu
  2. Quoted for reiteration. Rachelle, I am sorry to hear of your struggle. Stay strong, to the extent that you can. --Kawazu
  3. If you haven't yet reviewed earlier pages, Ezra Taft Benson was discussed in depth. It was posited by those who appreciate governments with broad powers that President Benson was speaking more from his personal views than from a prophetic standpoint. Look back on the earlier conversation, if you are inclined. Cheers, Kawazu
  4. This has been an interesting conversation. :: Thumbs up ::
  5. Hello, What is the difference between gambling and investing in stocks? Sincerely, Kawazu
  6. Howdy, Political platforms do no matter. Generally, politicians do not vocalize or adhere to any specific philosophy of government. "I promise to do what's best for America," suffices, usually. The letter next to a candidate's name is more aptly described as an indicator of the flavor of rhetoric employed during reelection season. Moreover, party platforms are not legally binding. If, for example, a President violates one of the key planks mid-term, nothing can be done. Any who, I am glad to see a sizable number of people identifying themselves as independents. The best the two-party system has to offer is not good enough for the American people. Best regards, Kawazu
  7. Howdy, For tech news, I listen to the following podcasts, (like radio programs, but downloadable on MP3): "Buzz Out Loud" -- daily broadcast. Professional quality. Website: Buzz Out Loud 961: Are you smarter than Google? | Buzz Out Loud Blog - CNET Blogs RSS Feed: Buzz Out Loud "Security Now" -- weekly broadcast. A little more technical, about computer security topics. Website: GRC | Security Now! | Featuring episode #193 RSS Feed: Security Now! "This Week in Tech"--weekly broadcast. More informal production. Website: The TWiT Netcast Network with Leo Laporte RSS Feed: On the main page of the website, under, "Subscribe". For church stuff I like, "LDS Voices," updated every day. Website: LDS Voices RSS Feed: LDS Voices In the category of news/political, I like, "Freedom Watch" with Judge Andrew Napolitano. broadcast weekly. Website: Freedom Watch With The Judge “Stay Free” - Judge Napolitano Live Video Feed (Wednesdays, 2 p.m. Eastern): FOX News Live Stream And also a New Hampshire-based talkshow called, "Free Talk Live" which is pretty radical but a good place to be if one isn't very fond of Democrats or Republicans. Broadcast daily. Website: Free Talk Live : 100% Pro-Liberty Talk Radio MP3 Link to Most Current Show: http://freetalklive.com/latest.php On the science front, a two-hour weekly podcast will be starting next week. I don't have any links for it, though. That's about it. Have a great day. Sincerely, Kawazu
  8. Looks like you may be right about the fakery. Still, I've seen some amusing stuff from out of the past. (Buried somewhere in the household odds-and-ends is an energy guide from the 1800s.)
  9. Hi, Just for kicks--
  10. As an aside about Intellectual Property, a snippet from this article explains how IP can be utilized in an anticompetitive manner. From Slashdot, (regarding the Digital Millennium Copyright Act): Slashdot | Google's Information On DMCA Takedown Abuse The issue of intellectual property is probably a little off topic, though, so I beg your pardon.
  11. Exactly. Corporatism, (government partnered with businesses, especially in order to pass legislation that raises barriers to entry), is inimical to everything desirable about competition. Due to exclusive privileges granted by my local government, Comcast is my only available high-speed cable Internet carrier. *grumble*. Thank you for your thoughts, Elgama. Cheers, Kawazu
  12. Hello there, Thanks for the post. I appreciated your main points. Regarding taxes versus tithing, I like how you mentioned that tithing is voluntary--a choice to obey. Income taxes are much less, "voluntary". Have a great day. Regards, Kawazu
  13. Amazon.com: Why God Won't Go Away: Brain Science and the Biology of Belief: Andrew Newberg, Eugene D'Aquili, Vince Rause: Books Not really about brain damage--the researchers do consider the impact of brain and biology upon a person's faith, though. Generally, a good read. If I recall correctly, the book neither promoted faith nor rejected it. Instead, among other things, the book gave a neurological perspective on the religious experience.
  14. Regardless of the party in power, ceaseless corporate welfare and special catering to the financial sector, (especially if shown ineffective), will frustrate many taxpayers. In a way, I think these, "tea parties" are an outgrowth of bailout fatigue.
  15. Even with all the news coverage, lately, understanding recent economic troubles can be a bit daunting. The below video describes key terms and outlines a few basic causes of our economic depression. Additionally, the video clip has been produced with professional quality. Enjoy. (Nonpartisan.) (Total running time: 12 minutes.) Overall, I learned more from this than I have from watching the news. Cheers, Kawazu
  16. Hi, Are there any catchy LDS bumper stickers? Regards, Kawazu
  17. Howdy, Is there a URL for this news story? Cheers, Kawazu
  18. Hi, Thanks. So far as church talks go, this one is alright. Cheers, kawazu
  19. I am interested. Do you have a source on that?
  20. The concept of God cannot be disproved; therefore, God is more a question of philosophy than the scientific method.
  21. Thanks. I have subscribed CFR.org podcast: Our Feeds - Council on Foreign Relations It seems this organization informs and advocates its membership with respect to international policy topics. Regards, Kawazu
  22. CFR conspiracies aren't really my thing but I will consider that there is a competition of ideas between governing officials of any nation--that is, to solve the world's problems through centralized government or to rely on as little government force as possible to accomplish any goal. So far as the Council on Foreign Relations is concerned, I hear they publish a magazine; do they offer online subscriptions? (I think I would enjoy reading directly from the source.) Regards, Kawazu
  23. I have bookmarked your link. Welcome to the site.
  24. Haha. :) Fair enough. I still thought the "Rejection Show" YouTube video was funny enough to circulate on my Myspace bulletin and amongst my non-church e-mail contacts. It's hard to find LDS-themed comedy that a person could pass along to others.
