Evidence that the Priesthood ban began with Joseph Smith
mikbone replied to Maverick's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/gospel-topics-essays/race-and-the-priesthood?lang=eng 2 Ne 26:33 For none of these iniquities come of the Lord; for he doeth that which is good among the children of men; and he doeth nothing save it be plain unto the children of men; and he inviteth them all to come unto him and partake of his goodness; and he denieth none that come unto him, black and white, bond and free, male and female; and he remembereth the heathen; and all are alike unto God, both Jew and Gentile. -
IMG_4576.mov It felt like I was on a boat tossed in waves for 45 or so seconds (and I’m 130 miles from epicenter!). Pretty exciting. The video is from my homeschooling kids. I was working in the clinic. End of times stuff there.

You can blame me if you want. I won’t shut you down. I’m not a moderator. And the moderators won’t shut you down either. I just won’t engage you or anyone else with a topic that I consider worthless to discuss. Do to my prior investigations and focus on scripture and modern-day revelation. And I am the OP of this thread. Thus I have incentive to keep it’s integrity. Make a new thread about Adam- God theory. I wont bother you there. Hijack elsewhere.

This is a logical statement. And was the thrust of my original post. If Jehovah was God back in the pre-mortal existence then He probably had been married before we ever met him. The Holy Ghost is also a God. It seems that it would be logical that he has a spouse as well. Is it important? Nope. Has nothing to do with our salvation. Is it interesting? You bet.

Ahh, excellent question. Some of us have been here on this forum for over a decade. We have seen this same question too many times to count. When we have been told by multiple living prophets to stop repeating the Adam-God theory because it is either heresy or unimportant for our exaltation we listen to the modern prophets. One excellent article I commonly refer to people like you is: https://rsc.byu.edu/vol-17-no-3-2016/doctrine-models-evaluate-types-sources-latter-day-saint-teachings It describes the different types of church doctrine. 1) Eternal or Core 2) Supportive 3) Policy 4) Esoteric Adam-God is at best an Esoteric doctrine. At worst it is a heresy (if you agree with Elder Bruce R. McConkie). https://speeches.byu.edu/talks/bruce-r-mcconkie/seven-deadly-heresies/ See heresy #6 You can clutch your pears all you want. But when you start teaching doctrine as if you know you are right, regardless of modern day revelation, it borders on apostasy (imho). Having an idea and keeping it to ones self is just fine. Go crazy with your theories. You can do a google search on this website and Adam-God theory and will get pages and pages of worthless discussion. But I won’t fall into your trap. You can go fishing elsewhere.

I repeat, to each his own.

We are aware of the so called Adam-God theory. And there is not “lots of compelling evidence” that Joseph Smith taught this. On the contrary, The scriptures and Joseph Smith’s recorded speeches refute Adam-God.
-
I highly doubt that. But to each his own.

It is likely the Eve is not only a name but a title. Gen 3:20 And Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living. If so, Heavenly Mother fits the title.

He will be out of business soon. Leave a suitable review. These people need instant Karma. This is exactly why I would prefer to go the Celestial kingdom. Do you think this guy deserves the Terrestrial, Telestial, or OD?

Ether 1:34-35 The Jaredites spoke the Adamic language. It is the language that God taught to Adam & Eve. It is a language that is perfect. Likely it is hard to mis-communicate your words in this language. When we go to paradise we will have to re-learn the language. Kind of like how people tend to learn English when they move to the USA or Hebrew when they move to Israel. I bet that Spirt Prison has maintained the many fractured languages of the world. Ether 12:24 And thou hast made us that we could write but little, because of the awkwardness of our hands. Behold, thou hast not made us mighty in writing like unto the brother of Jared, for thou madest him that the things which he wrote were mighty even as thou art, unto the overpowering of man to read them. Another thought is that God is communicating that there is no shortcut to finding Heaven. No telescope or spaceship will get us there either.

What do you make of McConkie's quote? There are statements in our literature by the early brethren which we have interpreted to mean that the Negroes would not receive the priesthood in mortality. I have said the same things, and people write me letters and say, "You said such and such, and how is it now that we do such and such?" And all I can say to that is that it is time disbelieving people repented and got in line and believed in a living, modern prophet. Forget everything that I have said, or what President Brigham Young or President George Q. Cannon or whomsoever has said in days past that is contrary to the present revelation. We spoke with a limited understanding and without the light and knowledge that now has come into the world.... We get our truth and our light line upon line and precept upon precept. We have now had added a new flood of intelligence and light on this particular subject, and it erases all the darkness and all the views and all the thoughts of the past. They don't matter any more.... It doesn't make a particle of difference what anybody ever said about the Negro matter before the first day of June of this year. I'm not saying that Brigham Young was racist. He lived in a different time with different social norms, and we can't judge him based on today's standards. The Church leadership since Sept 30, 1978 has been clear though. On the other hand, when I look through this thread. I am forced to ask myself. Are some of the responses racist? Might a Latter-Day Saint of African descent think that some of the reactions are racist? Might the current church leadership believe that some of the comments are racist? Might Jesus Christ think that some of the responses are racist? I will repeat, no good can come from continuing this discussion. 2 Ne 26:33 /Mikbone out

Hearsay is an out-of-court statement offered to prove the truth of whatever it asserts, which is then offered in evidence to prove the truth of the matter. The problem with hearsay is that when the person being quoted is not present, it becomes impossible to establish credibility.

We have an ordination certificate. The rest is hearsay The word evidence has meaning.

I was considering how Heavenly Mother has been content to be in the background. We don’t know any specifics about Her but we know that She is there and actively involved in bringing to pass the immortality and eternal life of man. Then I thought about Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost. And if they are Gods, then it is possible that they are already married and have spouses. If so, then Jesus’s counterpart might have been there in the pre-mortal existence working and supporting Jehovah in the background. She might have also come to Earth in a similar manner as Jesus. If we have no record of Jesus from age 12 until 30, it’s reasonable that we would have no record of Her either. Jesus also seemed to disappear from time to time during His mortal ministry. Possibly He was spending time with Her. Same for the Holy Ghost.

I can't imagine Jesus being rude to any woman, least of all his mother. It's easy to get confused when we apply today's liberal agenda and microaggressions against a person from a different time and place with a different culture and language.

Ether edited Mahonri’s record in the Adamic language. Moroni translated Ether’s record into Reformed Egyptian.

“And he will take upon him death, that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people; and he will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities.” Does this scripture imply that Jehovah could not comfort humanity prior to the meridian of time?

Ether 12:24 Ether recorded the Brother of Jared’s words. Ether was the editor. Mahonri was the author.

This was the first time that Jehovah showed himself to man in his past, present, and future states. Revelations 1:8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. Mahonri was a brilliant prophet. When he saw Jehovah, he incorrectly thought that he was seeing a mortal body of flesh and blood. He then made an intuitive leap and thought… If He is mortal then He can die. And this thought troubled him deeply. See Ether 3:8 Perhaps the Brother of Jared then made the connection - this is how Jehovah could represent a sacrificial lamb. No mortal had ever made this connection previously. I still find it awe inspiring.

Remember he also wrote the sealed 2/3 portion of the BoM. We aren’t worthy of the full knowledge.

No doubt the passage has been confusing to many. Even Moroni felt the need to interject commentary in: Ether 3:17 And now, as I, Moroni, said I could not make a full account of these things which are written, therefore it sufficeth me to say that Jesus showed himself unto this man in the spirit, even after the manner and in the likeness of the same body even as he showed himself unto the Nephites. One has to ask, what kind of body did Jesus show unto the Nephites? See 3 Ne 11:15 & note the commentary in Ether 3:13 Joseph Fielding Smith, Answers to Gospel Questions, Vol.2, p.123-125 Question: "There are several references testifying to the fact that the Lord appeared to ancient prophets before the flood, yet we read in the Book of Mormon, Ether 3:6-16, that the Lord had never shown himself to man prior to the days of the Brother of Jared. What explanation can be offered to clarify this apparent contradiction?" It is true that the Savior appeared to the prophets before the flood, but it is evident that he did not reveal himself in the fullness as he did to the Brother of Jared. Talking "face to face," as stated in this revelation, does not mean that the Lord did not appear in a cloud; or, that his body was partially hidden from the view of the prophet. All of this could occur and yet the Lord still be partially, if not completely, hidden from the prophet's view. The great difference rests in this, which the conversation of the Lord with the Brother of Jared clearly indicates: The Savior was conversing with the Brother of Jared in person, yes, evidently face to face, yet the Lord was hidden by a veil. The Brother of Jared knew that the Lord was there, but evidently he did not understand that the Lord had a body apparently of flesh and bones. Through his great faith he was able to see the finger of the Lord when the Lord touched the stones. So astonished did the prophet become that he fell to the earth in fright, fearing that the Lord might strike him. ...
