  7. Hello and Welcome Ceeboo. :)
  8. I have seen your posts. Welcome to this great site.
  9. Hello HEP, Grieving the loss of someone is a process and it is different for each of us. I am sorry to hear about the loss of your sweet wife. I have lost a brother and now both of my parents and I feel a real void. I have a growing love in learning more about my ancestry and I am trying to connect with them in that way. I think the idea about a journal sounds great. Is there someone who you can develop a bond with who has children? I feel bad for my new nephew who will be born next month having never had an earthly relationship with my parents. When I was growing up and we lived in a basement apartment I got to know the lady who lived upstairs, she was a widow and she treated me as one of her own. Knowing her the way it did really enriched my life.
  10. I have never seen this is person so I thought I would share this with other who might not have seen it. Find A Grave Joseph Smith. Joseph Smith (1805 - 1844) - Find A Grave Memorial
  11. I agree that people need to know things that are not sacred in nature like Temple Ceremonies. I have been a member for most of my life yet I only discovered some of the newer truths. I believe that in the church its early leader's are at the foundation. If it's okay for the truth to come as the 'meat' later on why is it not okay to tell now that it is no longer hidden? Are we afraid of what prospective members will think? Are we embarrassed by our heritage?
  12. Getting to know Emma Hale Smith. It is my hope that we can all share uplifting information about this wonderful lady in this thread. I came upon this beautiful song and video and thought that it might be nice to create a thread for her and learning more about her and her life.
  13. I have noticed at least two wind mills on the south side of the point of the mountain. (Utah, USA)
  14. As many of you know I have spent most of my life in Utah and I first really became aware of an "Anti-Mormon" when attending the dedication of The Jordan River Temple. There were people in the parking lots all way to the temple gates passing out information, we were told to ignore them and keep walking. I have seen so many accusations here to members of this site being called this name or that I decided to look up the word Anti-Mormon on a Google search and read the one from wikipedia.org. If I have read this thread and others correctly that title is being thrown around to many people here and I don't feel that it is right. We need to be careful. Although we don't represent the offcial site we are up towards the top on a Google search for LDS.
  15. Your reasoning doesn't sound stupid to me. If I am ever asked I will no more hide Josephs polygamy anymore than I would hide that of my ancestors, it was a different time. :)
  16. We have already been commanded NOT to. Ten Commandments The Ten Commandments are eternal gospel principles that are necessary for our exaltation. The Lord revealed them to Moses in ancient times (see Exodus 20:1–17), and they are also referenced in whole or in part in other books of scripture (see Matthew 19:18–19; Romans 13:9; Mosiah 12:33–36; 13:13–24; D&C 42:18–29; 59:5–13; 63:61–62). The Ten Commandments are a vital part of the gospel. Obedience to these commandments paves the way for obedience to other gospel principles. Additional Information The following review of the Ten Commandments includes brief explanations of how they continue to apply in our lives today: 1. “Thou shalt have no other gods before me” (Exodus 20:3). We should do “all things with an eye single to the glory of God” (D&C 82:19). We should love and serve the Lord with all our heart, might, mind, and strength (see Deuteronomy 6:5; D&C 59:5). 2. “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image” (Exodus 20:4). In this commandment, the Lord condemns the worship of idols. Idolatry may take many forms. Some people do not bow before graven images or statues but instead replace the living God with other idols, such as money, material possessions, ideas, or prestige. In their lives, “their treasure is their god”—a god that “shall perish with them” (2 Nephi 9:30). 3. “Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain” (Exodus 20:7). 4. “Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy” (Exodus 20:8). 5. “Honour thy father and thy mother” (Exodus 20:12). This commandment remains binding throughout our lives and can be understood in several ways: We should honor our fathers and our mothers who are our ancestors; we should be grateful to the father and mother who provided our earthly bodies; we should honor those who raised us in the knowledge of the truth. Above all, we should honor our Heavenly Parents. The way we honor all these fathers and mothers is by keeping the commandments. 6. “Thou shalt not kill” (Exodus 20:13). 7. “Thou shalt not commit adultery” (Exodus 20:14). In a latter-day revelation, the Lord condemned not only adultery, but “anything like unto it” (D&C 59:6). Fornication, homosexuality, and other sexual sins are violations of the seventh commandment. 8. “Thou shalt not steal” (Exodus 20:15). Stealing is a form of dishonesty. 9. “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour” (Exodus 20:16). Bearing false witness is another form of dishonesty. 10. “Thou shalt not covet” (Exodus 20:17). Coveting, or envying something that belongs to another, is damaging to the soul. It can consume our thoughts and plague us with constant unhappiness and dissatisfaction. It often leads to other sins and to financial indebtedness. LDS.org - Topic Definition____
  17. Yes I do believe that some of the men had died but also some were called to be part of The Mormon Battalion. This is a video of a Poineer Trek and those wagons sure look heavy especially for those women. There are other videos to the right as you get to youtube. Here is a link of some of the things that go into planning of a Poineer Trek. Our stake just got home from a trek. Stakes who conducted a training trek are better prepared both physically and spiritually
  18. I am so excited for you pinkcow. :) My own grandmother kept journals and right after her death I asked to read them while preparing a talk for her funeral. I took notes from her journal thinking that maybe I would never see it again. I treasure her life and I am grateful she kept her life in a journal. Good Luck in restoring her journal. My first thought was to press lead shavings into the impressions from the pencil but I would try that first on something you wrote lightly in pencil first as to not spoil her journal. Another thing that occurred to me is taking it to a copy shop and darkening the copy to see what will show up.
  19. I know of this addiction very well both of my parents were smokers. My father gave it up cold turkey just before I was married more than 20 years ago. My mother on the other hand keep saying she would only quit when she "was ready". My mother died 5 years ago from lung cancer she was only 63. I will keep you in my prayers I know this is an addiction and to anyone who is reading this and has never smoked I warn you to never try it. Hugs To You ((((Dove))))
  20. I have done merchandising for department stores and I have heard about these mystery shoppers but didn't think it was real thing which pays you. Can you tell me how it works?
  21. So who says that one has to chose?
  22. I think it just about criminal for them to have a spoiler BEFORE the book comes out. Thanks for the advice. I won't click the link.
  23. Having a tragic accident happen to someone you love dearly, then being told to say goodbye before surgery. With that goodbye you are given the opportunity to give a blessing and turning the fate of your loved one to the Lord. That is real faith, not knowing the outcome but giving this persons fate to the will of the Lord.
  24. I like Paul Potts music and his story to fame.:)
