Here is what it says on lds.org news section. PISCO, Peru 17 August 2007 The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is today loading supplies, surgical instruments, family food boxes, hygiene kits and tarps into a 747 cargo plane to be flown directly from Salt Lake City into the area affected by a major earthquake in Peru. After the 8.0 quake hit Peru on 15 August 2007, the Church immediately responded. Working closely with the Peruvian Civil Defense Agency, the Church initially provided 10,000 blankets and other emergency supplies such as tents. Local Church leaders have opened four Mormon chapels in Pisco as shelters and are providing food and water for displaced Peruvians. The Church has substantial history and presence in Peru, where its membership is over 430,000. Current reports indicate seven members of the Church are among the dead, with 14 seriously injured. All Church missionaries are reported safe and accounted for.

Sure would be nice to hear from him. Married life must be agreeing with him.

I know what a dry Mormon is. do tell....we are all on the edge of our seats.......... In today's society it would be someone that follows all of the teachings of the LDS church but without actually getting baptized. Therefore the word "DRY" indicates never having been dunked.

Okay I will tell you a personal story about myself. I was about 14. And please don't repeat this story to my mother. She would be mortified. Anyway, I and my best friend at the time were in Sunday School class. The lesson was boring, the teacher was boring so we got a little distracting. The teacher finally told both of us, "If you don't want to sit and listen you are more than welcome to leave." Well the two of us looked at each other and we were out the door. Okay so now we are ditching Sunday School class and where to go? We head out to the parking lot only to realize that the classroom where the Gospel Doctrine class is taught overlooks the parking lot. Knowing our parents could probably see us we decide that's not a good place to be. We then head up to the women's bathroom. Now this was an older model chapel. It had a sitting area you go through before getting to the main bathroom. We are standing around in the sitting area and the Bishop's wife comes in. She asks us, "Aren't you girls supposed to be in class?" We then reply, "We are waiting for a friend that is using the bathroom." Well while she is changing her baby, we go into the room with the stalls. We need to make it look like someone is in there. So I go into one of the stalls, flip the lock over. I then realize the door to the stall comes way to low to the floor to go under the door. I made the decision to swing up OVER the stall door. Well while I was coming down the other side, my dress is caught on the door hook on the inside of the stall. So there I am hanging with my dress up past my waist and can't get down. My friend is laughing so hard she is of no help. At that moment the Bishop's wife comes in, sees me and sweetly asks, "Do you need any help?" I reply "nope I'm just fine." I did have to do a pull up (boy sure could not do that today) unhook my dress and we were out of there. To this day whenever I talk to this friend the first thing said is "So where have you been "hanging" out lately." I'm also surprised that no mention of any of this was ever made to my parents.

Have to be careful with the accuracy of wikipedia though. They have been proven to be posting wrong information several times.

I never thought to look on Ebay. My daughter has a hard time finding modest dresses for proms etc. Plus ones that we can afford. Hard living on a single mom's income and allowing them the luxury of prom dresses etc. Thanks for the idea.

I'm actually surprised with equal opportunity etc...the term "Jill Mormon" hasn't come into play. j/k

My understanding is that it applies to those that are inactive. Many who attend church on Sundays have vices. I wouldn't think that would make them a Jack Mormon. JMO
-
Just a little history on the term. During the 19th century the term Jack Mormon came to mean those that were not officially members of the church but were friendly or took an active interest in their belief system. Over time the term came to changed to mean someone who became inactive in the church. My understanding is that it is also someone who though inactive maintained good feelings or positive feelings about the Church. But also applies to those that have good feelings towards the church but reject the prohibition of tobacco and alcohol.

Would the value of masculinity come from centuries ago? Or even in today's society...where men who have multiple sons are thought of to be more masculine and the sons are more valued?

Why American Politicians Are The Biggest Liars.
pam replied to Fiannan's topic in General Discussion
Same here. As a protest I did not vote for Bush in the primaries but strongly supported him over Gore or Kerry. I know a lot of people dislike Gore because he talks of conservation yet has a jet and a big SUV but I think his support of selling advanced military equipment to Turkey so they could kill and ethnically cleanse Kurds in SE Turkey, yet support bombing Serbia in the excuse the Serbs were persecuting Albanians in Kosovo, really took hypocracy to the outermost limit. Kerry? Really now, what positive traits did that guy offer? Fiannan I'm very confused over something. You talk about voting in American elections but don't you live in Sweden? Help me out here. -
May it all work out and quickly. Again welcome to the site.
