I never thought to look on Ebay. My daughter has a hard time finding modest dresses for proms etc. Plus ones that we can afford. Hard living on a single mom's income and allowing them the luxury of prom dresses etc. Thanks for the idea.

I'm actually surprised with equal opportunity etc...the term "Jill Mormon" hasn't come into play. j/k
-
My understanding is that it applies to those that are inactive. Many who attend church on Sundays have vices. I wouldn't think that would make them a Jack Mormon. JMO

Just a little history on the term. During the 19th century the term Jack Mormon came to mean those that were not officially members of the church but were friendly or took an active interest in their belief system. Over time the term came to changed to mean someone who became inactive in the church. My understanding is that it is also someone who though inactive maintained good feelings or positive feelings about the Church. But also applies to those that have good feelings towards the church but reject the prohibition of tobacco and alcohol.

Would the value of masculinity come from centuries ago? Or even in today's society...where men who have multiple sons are thought of to be more masculine and the sons are more valued?

Why American Politicians Are The Biggest Liars.
pam replied to Fiannan's topic in General Discussion
Same here. As a protest I did not vote for Bush in the primaries but strongly supported him over Gore or Kerry. I know a lot of people dislike Gore because he talks of conservation yet has a jet and a big SUV but I think his support of selling advanced military equipment to Turkey so they could kill and ethnically cleanse Kurds in SE Turkey, yet support bombing Serbia in the excuse the Serbs were persecuting Albanians in Kosovo, really took hypocracy to the outermost limit. Kerry? Really now, what positive traits did that guy offer? Fiannan I'm very confused over something. You talk about voting in American elections but don't you live in Sweden? Help me out here. -
May it all work out and quickly. Again welcome to the site.

So Steve..tell us. How did you meet your girlfriend with you being in "OZ" and she being in Utah? When are you planning on getting married?

My mom always was there to attend every function that I participated in. Even if it mean getting up at 2 a.m. so that I could get to school to catch a bus for a drill team competition. She would then follow the bus in her own vehicle for the 4-6 hour drive. She worked full time yet still managed to do all of this. Though we didn't always have alot of money growing up...my dad always seemed to have money put away so that we could enjoy our annual family vacations. Those are some of my fondest memories. They also brought me up to appreciate all walks of life. All ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Perhaps that is why even today I have such utter dislike for any kind of racial/ethnic slurs. Of that I am very proud.

My daughter is "iiinnnn llllluuuuuuvvvvv" and will barely talk to me any more. Except, of course, when there's a huge spider in her room and she's literally hysterically terrified, so I have to go and catch it so she can calm down. (She was bitten by a black widow, and was already afraid of them.) Then she deigns to talk to me for the night. I am still so crazy about her that my whole body aches with love whenever I see her. Elphaba I know it hurts but I don't think she loves you any less. She has found someone else that she can share her love with. Not all of it of course but right now she is a young girl that is in love and is exploring any possibilities there. I remember going through the same thing when I was her age. Hang in there. Thanks Pam. Actually, I am very happy for her, and sort of hope this is the one. He is very nice to me, but more importantly, extremely nice to her. Best of all, they TALK! She needs to get away from me, and it probably took longer than it should have! Can you imagine having to talk to me all the time?? Elphaba Oh I'm sure there are some subjects we would agree on and be able to talk about. Are you stickin' to it??? Elphie Just for you....That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

I have found that I REALLY enjoy my teenagers. They bring much into my life. Laughter, joy, insight. They surprise me greatly with their minds and logic quite often. Not to say we don't have our struggles on different issues but I think those struggles and issues bring us closer together when we can come to a resolution.

That was the exact point that I lost it as well.
