  1. Excellent. I love family history and I love to talk about it. I will be happy to help out anyone - if I can. :)
  2. I'm not going to respond to each of your questions because I have a more one answer fits all response. Which is, it doesn't matter what the other members feel or think about any of that. My experience is they are fairly open minded about most situations. But the truth is that you are hopefully going back to Church for you - not them. That being said, visit with the Bishop and he will let you know whatever steps are necessary. Beyond that, it doesn't matter. Of course, that is just my opinion. :)
  3. I really enjoy these sort of "all star" Survivor shows. Especially when the villains find out it isn't as easy to pull the wool over everyone's eyes when they're on to you. :)
  4. Might I suggest Google, or whatever search engine you use on the internet. I have had good success using this to find information on some of my ancestors, especially if they are written up in a book that has been published. You will be surprised at what you can find with it. :)
  5. Although I may be too late in responding to this thread - I am active in Family History. I would be willing to answer any questions that I can. :)
  6. Heavenly Father may know everything, but we do not. This experience is not for God, but for us. It is the next step in our eternal evolution. No matter what our reward in the next life we will have learned valuable lessons here that will help us from here on. Including, what we were capable of - without having to rely on the all-knowing-ness of our Heavenly Father. :)
  7. This thread scares me. :)
  8. It sounds as if we are saying about the same thing. I agree that these are excuses for the most part and not legitimate problems. However, they have gotten the requisite number of votes to have it put on the ballot. Wondering how that will work out. :)
  9. Good. I'm glad that seems to have worked out for you. :)
  10. I'm thinking that there is at least once where he himself stated he was offering his opinion on a matter. I think it dealt with chosing to remain single in order to further the Lord's work. :)
  11. As I understand it, this surpasses the zoning regulations for churches if the main portion of the building is taller than 30 feet. However, the zoning commission has already passed the variance. They don't believe anything that has been protested about will be a problem. It isn't about the neighborhood being disrupted. There is a big, ugly water park on the same street, not too far away. I think just about any complaint they have is much more of a problem with the water park. Although, it may be under 30 feet. I don't know how the zoning laws apply to it. :)
  12. Welcome aboard. :)
  13. I would sit through Sacrament meeting. Then when that is over, introduce yourself to the Bishop and explain your situation - I. E. That you have not been active in many years. He will guide you from there. :)
  14. If the Church were to put the building at the 30 ft height, there could be no protest by the neighbors, because it would be in full compliance with the zoning laws. The only thing that applies here is the height variance of the building itself. :)
  15. If it helps any, I was single until I was 38 and found a wonderful woman who married me. And I have two good friends that have pretty much the same story. Single until 38 and 39 and they found wives that were ideally suited for them. :)
  16. Here is something I ponder. How much of our experiences in this life did we know about before we came to Earth? Each of us have struggles and I have to wonder if we didn't have some sort of inkling as to the problems we would be facing and said - "bring it on, I know it is what I need." Just something to think about. :)
  17. There is a conferrence talk on this topic, I believe. In it, it listed the four standard works and anything that the First Presidency has released in their role as First Presidency, as scripture. Anything else, including conferrence talks and Church manuals have a different status. :)
  18. I think perhaps this thread has it a bit backwards. I don't think that this incident marks the end or will set a trend, but as we move closer to the time of troubles that will preceed the Millenium, I think incidents like this will become increasingly more common. Not that I want to scare anyone with it, but what is described by the prophets who have spoke on the subject depict a pretty rough state of affairs for anyone living through it.
  19. 2009 was a good year for me and my resolutions and a good year for both my wife and I to make huge personal advances in our lives. So I count this last year as a success as far as resolutions go. This year I hope to advance my career and to improve my scripture reading too. :)
  20. I did. In fact, it lead me to post twice at the forum I previously participated at. I hope this doesn't happen again.
  21. I suppose it is possible that the veil is thinner for some people than others. I don't know that this would have anything to do with stewardship though. If a spirit asked to have a message passed along, I think that is no different than if a living person were to do the same. And Idon't think you would bring stewardship into it if someone approached you with a message from your Aunt Matilda in Idaho. Then again, I could be wrong. Maybe it is a matter of stewardship and not individuals on the other side of the veil asking for messages to be passed along. :)
  22. Welcome to the forum. :)

    Hi

    Welcome. :)
  24. A NYC, Tucson, hippie? For some reason that tickles my funny bone. But then again, I'm easily amused. :)
  25. Nope, too fat and too old to run anything but my mouth. Well, it's good to know that you are in my general area. Who knows, maybe we can meet some time. :)
