  1. Blasphemy can be extremely entertaining.
  2. Nice haikus, guys. I have cerebral palsy myself from being born three and a half months early. Thankfully it's very mild and I'm not completely crippled or a vegetable.
  3. It's a work of fiction. The way I see it is that each work of fiction takes place in an alternate universe which may have different laws applied to it by that universe's deity, definitely not a foreign concept for us LDS. Think about it for a moment. Let me use fire and blizzard magic as a small example. To make fire, you need oxygen, fuel, and energy. To make ice, you need water and less energy. One is still manipulating matter to produce the fire and snow. In this sense, the only difference between magic in a game and what our technology inside flamethrowers and freezers do is that the ability for humans to control these laws of physics is different. I'd argue it works the same for all other sorts of magic. In other words, magic is just another form of technology. I always thought the Harry Potter books pointed that out well by putting the magic world and a fictitious equivalent of our world side by side. Regardless, I think the only real aspect you should be focusing on with caution is the message. I, too, am a fellow Final Fantasy fan. Don't get rid of them. They contain wonderful things. I'd sooner ditch them because of the language than what you're troubled over, and there are remedies to that. Lastly, I've posted about this issue in another thread, except it involved violence and not magic. Let me see if I can find it and I'll edit it in. I put down stuff from a game that I felt was really uplifting. EDIT: Found it!
  4. Disagree completely. As Rush put it, bin Laden's blood doesn't fill my gas tank, nor does his death fix any other problems, not even the war in Afghanistan. It's a big blow to al-Qaeda's morale, I think, and the information obtained is likely invaluable, but this small moment of triumph will be seriously dwarfed by all the other issues up for debate. EDIT: Just curious, how come you always hit enter after every 10 words or so?
  5. Nine times out of ten it's the unions we take issue with, not the teachers. The other one time out of ten where we take issue with teachers is when the school won't fire the bad ones by virtue of seniority or other measures. But that too is largely the union's fault.
  6. This just isn't factual, providing Rush's comments weren't sarcastic. He repeatedly said they weren't, and he sounded completely serious when he said it. I'd pull up the audio if I could. Rush Limbaugh: "Thank God for President Obama" - Political Hotsheet - CBS News
  7. lol. Most of his fans from what I've seen are college student age. Hence the surprise.
  8. A 37 year old sufjan stevens fan... Never thought I'd see this.
  9. GAHH I got all excited thinking there was another music nerd in here now.
  10. I was wondering which of the men had done that. How disgusting. I agree with MOE. A necessary tragic ending to an unnecessary tragedy.
  11. So that's how it works. This always confused the heck out of me.
  12. I can see my old county! Being from upstate New York, I say soda.
  13. I make my bed when either a. the covers get ripped off or b. the covers need to be washed. You are not alone.
  14. You have the memory of an elephant but you went and CHEATED?! Why, Wing, I am so disappointed in you as a student. I had such bright hopes for your career at guessing LDS musicians but they have now been dashed. You're going to have to go over all the course material AGAIN. Do it right this time. LOL I JUST DIED LAUGHING GUYS "Anthony Green" 6:29 pm gawsh when you LDS call people inactives "Anthony Green" 6:29 pm sounds like you guys have sleeper cells all around the world I just showed him this thread because he's a fellow music buff and might be able to contribute. ahahahaha
  15. Statistically significant of your FAILURE. I'm not finding anything certifiable on Travis. Apparently two Jimmy Eat World members are inactives.
  16. 5/8? 62.5%F See me after class.
  17. Cheater. You are correct, although I'm looking for non-mainstream as well as mainstream. Secular might be a better word, I dunno though. Maybe just non-LDS worship artists /cerebralsemanticbreakdown
  18. I think this thread was more of a lighthearted things you wish were free type deal.
  19. Are these their own acts or are they part of a band? Also, what genres? I'm editing my OP to conform to these questions too haha.
  20. I need a list, please. Who I know of: Gladys Knight - soul/jazz/R&B The Osmonds - pop Cove Reber - melodic rock/post-hardcore (ex-vocalist of Saosin, one of my favorite bands ever) Brandon Flowers - alternative/melodic rock (vocalist of The Killers) Gary Allan - country/pop David Archuleta - american idol pop Will Butler - alternative rock (guitarist of Arcade Fire) There has to be more than this. Please add. Thank you.
  21. Music. I used to pirate, and after I stopped and started paying for what I wanted to keep, you wouldn't believe how much it costs to have this as a hobby. Hahaha. EDIT: There's quite a big movement in the underground music industry right now to go independent and seek little to no profit. I'm overjoyed because a. I don't have to pay, and b. art is a great thing to be able to appreciate for free. A lot of it is by principle, but a lot of it is also a reaction to piracy as well. Ironically enough, sites like bandcamp that offer a pay what you want feature and/or very low prices are seeing huge success because people feel more obliged to give money to an artist who asks rather than demands, and it also allows people to listen and really enjoy it before they decide to donate to the band if they decide the band is enjoyable enough. Personally, I pay for everything that I'm required to pay for and download for free what's free. If I can't do that, I support bands in other ways in exchange for albums. I write reviews.
  22. I thought your wording was a bit murky before but this clears it up.
