  1. When things are going wrong in my life I feel guilty that perhaps I'm not counting my blessings enough. But, you know what? Sometimes life is just plain hard, even when counting the blessings.
  2. Sending hugs your way.
  3. I'll stop reading a book when it doesn't flow. If the writing is choppy, I get very annoyed. I skip over parts of a book that are too descriptive. If it's necessary description, then I'm okay with it. But, if we're going into endless detail over what a character is wearing, the accessories that go with it, or detailing every room in a house, where it is not warranted in the storyline, then I go insane. I'll either chuck the book or skip many paragraphs to get to the meat of the story.
  4. Church membership goes back about four or five generations on both sides of my family. I was baptized at eight years of age by my grand father, and I had my home teacher confirm me a member. It was my choice as to who baptized and confirmed me. I'm sure that if my father was alive I would have chosen him. I would say that I've been active all my life, but there was a time during my teenage years that I only attended Sacrament Meeting. I was uncomfortable around the girls in my Young Women's group in my ward, so very seldom attended Mutual, and never went to Girls Camp. I wish I could have gotten over my shyness and lack of self-esteem that I had at that time. I served a mission in Germany. It was the best time of my life, and also one of the hardest. It helped me overcome my shyness and my lack of self-esteem. I came home very confidant and with a strong testimony. I wish I could say that having a strong testimony meant I always chose the right. What's the saying? The Spirit is willing but the Flesh is weak. That's me. I have a great need of my Savior's atoning sacrifice and I'm so grateful for Him and His atonement.
  5. Pam, thanks for letting us know. Sending prayers for the whole family.
  6. When my spouse did something that was hurtful to me, Instead of sweeping the hurts and misunderstandings under the rug, talk about them. Don't be afraid to rock the boat. Or, to go along with that, in order to avoid the deep hurts during my marriage, when I meet my future spouse, run as fast as you can and don't look back. Those red flags you saw, they were there for a reason. I don't want anyone to think by my above comments that I have an abusive spouse. He just brought a lot of baggage from his former marriage, and I wasn't prepared to handle it. Still can't handle a lot of it.
  7. This is heartbreaking. I will pray for your nephew.
  8. Right now, my companion and I have two sisters to VT. Throughout the years usually, it's been two or three sisters on my list to visit. We try to see each sister every month, but things happen. Sometimes, it's just a phone call. Currently, the two sisters my companion and I visit are active, and there's no problem with setting up a schedule to visit. We need to go evenings with my time constraints. With the last partner I had, we had one sister who only wanted morning visits, so my partner ended up visiting her without me. And we had another sister that was inactive, and wouldn't open the door to us. My last companion was the bishop's wife, and occasionally the inactive sister would open the door to the bishop and his wife, if they were together. I love the Visiting Teaching program! Through VT I get to know the sisters on a personal level.
  9. Yes! notmordorbund. Hilarious!
  10. That's huge!
  11. Mordorbund, I'm getting totally confused with the avatar change. lol
  12. Too funny. Love the new avatar!
  13. Oh my! When I liked your post, I totally thought it was from Heather. Next time I better look a little bit closer.
  14. For the seeds. I don't even know if it's a viable option to plant. I still need to read up on it.
  15. We had late frost this year too--Mother's Day weekend. In that regard, I'm glad we didn't get our garden out early. I've had the same experience with bush beans vs. pole beans. My bush beans have done great. I tried pole beans last year and I was very disappointed. Going to plant bush beans this year.
  16. We have very few people in our ward that fall away. I live in the suburbs half way between Salt Lake City and Provo, and most of my neighbors are LDS. In my area, if someone does go inactive, they usually still have a belief in the church, but they allow something or some event to keep them from attending meetings. They usually come back. For those members in my ward that have gone through divorces, they have not gone inactive. In fact, they receive a lot of support from the ward. I'm blessed to live in the area I live in. We are truly a ward family. We mourn with those that mourn and rejoice with those who rejoice. It's been my experience that those who truly fall away, they were looking for any excuse to leave.
  17. We're late in getting our garden planted. I'm feeling discouraged. How are you all doing with your gardens? What have you planted? I'm hoping to get everything planted the next day or two. I've decided to go with a smaller garden this year. We had too much go to waste last year, and certain plants didn't do well. I'm thinking of planting the following: Tomatoes, several different varieties Bell Peppers Cucumbers Zucchini Squash Crook Neck Squash Radishes Turnips Green Beans Broccoli Pumpkin Carrots Maybe some golden flax (my 91 year old mother wants me to plant flax.) I've never planted it before. I need to read up on it and see if planting time is late Spring. I would like to plant strawberries in an old wheelbarrow of ours. I'm hoping it isn't too late in the season. I wanted to plant red potatoes, but it may be too late in the season. I need to read up on it. Same with peas. This year I am not planting cabbage, cauliflower, watermelon, corn, cantaloupe, or any other melon. I'm off to the nursery in a few hours to buy some plants. Wish me luck for this year's garden!
  18. Will you have your temple recommend and be attending a session? Or, are you just going to be visiting the temple grounds/visitor's center?
  19. Just wondering what's the difference between a guest and an anonymous user? I don't know if I've ever seen an anonymous user listed in the stats. Granted, I don't look at the stats all that often, but here are the stats from just a few minutes ago.-- 4 members, 90 guests, 0 anonymous users
  20. I need to clean my carpets this month. I own my own steam carpet cleaner (can't remember brand), but I'm so worn out after cleaning one room. I keep putting off cleaning my carpet because of the physical drain it puts on me. I'm tempted to have a carpet cleaning service come in and at least do my living room. But, because I own a carpet cleaner, I can't see shelling out extra money for experts to come in. And, truth be told, when I've had professional companies come in, they haven't done any better of a job than I can do.
  21. Yes!!! Let's plan it. This gives me plenty of time to save money.
  22. It has thrown me off too, but I'm sure it's just because I'm not used to where it is now. I'm thinking that within a day or two I'll automatically go to the top left to find it.
  23. I wonder when I'll be able to travel to Germany again? This year? Hope! Hope! Hope! I wonder if I'll be able to visit my daughter in South Korea again before she moves back to the States? I wonder if I'll ever drive cross country?
  24. I love and admire Emma. She was called an Elect Lady, and as far as I'm concerned, she earned that title and still holds it to this day.
  25. Fortunately, I don't have that problem.
