Should we encourage little children to take the sacrament?
Sunday21 replied to Luke's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
‘Cannot find any proclamation from any of the prophets, that annuls the Saviour's direct commandment in 3rd Nephi 18, stating that the sacrament must only be given to those who believe, repent and are baptized.’ @David Thompson I remember reading an account of one of the quorum of the 12 being interviewed by a reporter. The reporter asked ‘When did you last receive revelation from God?’ The apostle replied ‘Last Thursday’. The prophet receives ongoing revelation. If the Lord disagreed with a common practice, He would let us know. Why not follow Bro Utchdorf on Facebook? -
Should we encourage little children to take the sacrament?

I would just like to mention something to parents shepherding many small children during sacrament. If someone offers to take one or more of your children during the meeting, this does not imply that your children are annoying or otherwise offensive. We are just bored or tired and trying to stay awake! -

Yes! It is hard to run a spiritual organization through an analysis of the scriptures! -

@David Thompson Welcome! Nice to hear your thoughts! I think that we have decided that having children take the sacrament is permissible. We have prophets so it is not always necessary to have scriptural references for everything. -
Setting aside the church to keep a career?

@Mcmomma I am really sorry! You worked so hard! I feel for you. I once had to teach the RS sisters that nurturing was our main reason for existence and they almost barbecued me! Sigh. Can be tough at times. I always follow instructions. Teach the lesson as directed. Sigh. I hand out chocolate at times!

@SpiritDragon Right you are, the laws that are supposed to protect us often do not! In Ontario, Complaining about discrimination starts by emailing the Ontario Rights Tribunal (Ort) so getting the process started is not that hard. The kind of thing that they would consider are % of people in your group in the population vs percentage in the company. the ort people are quite nasty so the whole process is to be avoided. If you are medium size company in TO with very few Muslims and you never interview Muslims, this is a bad idea. In General, the ort doesn’t bother investigating unless there is an opportunity to send a message. But if you are a medium sized company, we care. The law is a blunt instrument. I beg people not to sue or put in complaints against their company. Doing so can really hurt your career! Did a CBC interview today! Woohoo!

In Canada, you cannot discriminate based on the list of prohibited grounds: an official list of historically disadvantaged groups. Eg race, country of origin... I confess that I know employment law so I assume that commercial law is similar but due to legal precedent there may be some differences. Long lecture. Everyone falls asleep. But in employment law, other than prohibited grounds, feel free to discrimate. You can refuse to hire the smelly, the badly dressed, and people that you just don’t like. Maybe commercial law is similar?

Yes I see your point. The lds will be fine. I hope that other religious groups will also be fine.

I worry what such a policy would do..we won’t serve Jews, Muslims. The lds are strong, we can handle these unpleasant situations. We are incredibly blessed. But what about other religious groups? And what will the consequences be? Angry defensive young people who feel rejected by the mainstream? Do we need more hate?

My stake president, bishop and associated leaders are lovely people. I like them and I am sure that you would like them as well. So why did they do some of the things that they did? I suspect that the layer of leadership above them is pushing for growth but that goal that is unrealistic. My personal rule is that, it is great to have goals but the minute that you are tempted to break a commandment, start questioning that goal.

I once was heavily invested in a series about sea monsters. Ended on a cliff hanger! I feel your pain.

How Long Is Too Long To Wait For A Temple Marriage?
Sunday21 replied to dddd's topic in Marriage and Relationship Advice
Yes I agree. I do not think that all types of education are equal. There needs to be a job in that area. The job needs to provide enough money to save for the future, to educate your children. -

We do not have many lds people in my country. We have a lot of land and not many people. As the world becomes warmer more of the frozen land becomes good farm land. More people move to the land that is warmer. So fewer people per square inch. In my area, the lds people do not have a higher education. Religious people with little education sometimes do not bother to educate their daughters. Why bother? The girls will marry. Well there are very few lds young men who attend church here. Those that do have problems. The general pattern is that intelligent psychologically healthy young men are less active. If they remain active, we give them too much to do. The young women have very little education after high school. If they do get more education, it is for a job that earns very little. The older generation realizes that there is a problem but we don’t do anything. In the next 5 years, what will happen? The young women move. I am glad. My country’s economy is going to go through a very hard time in the next decade. When that happens young people with little education will suffer. -

The young men have a range of issues: autism, low IQ, mental instability. The more capable ones have left or occasionally attend church full of resentment. We do bad things to the capable young men who have a testimony. We overburden the capable young men with callings. We ask them to go and help in emergency situations during the school year. There are more young women so the work is shared. But I do not know who these women will marry. In my ward of those who attend, we have 13 capable young women and 3 not very capable young men. I have had a stake calling so I know that the pattern is similar throughout the Stake. These women will grow old without having children and who will look after them in their old age? Most of these young women have no plans to earn a living. Their career plan is marriage. What is going to happen? Some of these young women have been raised as though they are dolls. No career plan. No concept of reality. I am afraid for them. I have been asked to work in the young womem’s program but I cannot bear to stand in front of these young women and teach from the manual when what they need is career counselling. Their parents cannot afford to support them. What is going to happen? These women are going to live their lives in poverty. It is difficult to both hold employment and attend church in my city unless you own a car. It is possible but the part if the city that you would need to live is unpleasant. I fear for these young women. We have failed to prepare them for life. @dddd. Please tell me that you have a plan to earn a living! -

Why do you say this? We have many young sisters and virtually no men. The young men are not interested in women. Not kidding. If there is a problem with Mutual, it would be good to know. -

I know some people who have had success using Mutual. -
Must read this! Can we hide some lds stuff in this story somewhere? Maybe a ministering sister?

Yep. I wear glasses and I see the same stars. ⭐️
