Would you dump this car? Ford Focus 2013 I bought a 2013 Ford Focus. These cars have transmission and clutch problems. The clutch needs to be replaced every 2.5 years which cost $2500. Ford has two clutch warranties which are currently paying for the clutch problem. One runs for another 5 years and the other for another two years. I considered trading in the car with Ford for a younger model but the more recent vintages have similar problems. The car often judders, a common problem with the Focus. It cost me $150 for them to look at the car. After an initial free inspection, they told me that the car had a problem. On the more thorough assesmment,, they said that they could not find a problem. One side of the car is scrapped. To restore car requires $1000 for paint job plus car rental for a couple of days. Choices: 1) sell car and buy a better used car from a dealer. 2) keep car and accept that in about 2 years, I will be paying about $600 per year for clutch from now. What would you do? (And don’t buy a Ford Focus!)

Can’t you imagine what it must feel like to work for a US intelligence agency right now? I bet there are quite a few lds people in those agencies. Picture it: sober, diligent, nicely groomed, speak another language (mission), used to addressing meetings. Who would you hire?

But we would not have the delight of reading your carefully constructed thoughts!

@Vort The US needs at least two main political parties. So is there somewhere another political party that could run the country? An off shoot of one of the two main parties? I am massively disappointed that a third party candidate did not win in Utah. Wasn’t there a Mormon with a cia/fbi background? Any chance of a moderate party coming along? Aren’t there right wing democrats or moderate republicans?

Dear @jmom I once as an undergrad researched marital satisfaction across the lifespan. Very sobering! Few people are satisfied with their marriages after about 5 years. For men, they become more satisfied with their marriages after retiement. Women have a slight increase in satisfaction after retirement. Neither men nor women regain the euphoria of the first five years.

We have three major political parties in my country - all quite disorganized, hypocritical and sometimes venally corrupt. I do wish that we were negotiated with Mitt Romney right now. I have to remind myself next time I am voting that the ability to feel shame is a key requirement in selecting a government representative. I was about to vote conservative in the last provincial election. I had met the candidate, a practicing Muslim, which I personally feel is a plus. I feel the Spirit with practicing Muslims so I feel good about having a Muslim as my elected representative. Shortly after meeting the candidate, his workers were revealed to be breaking the election rules. My candidate told the media that he could not control his workers actions. No remorse. No taking responsibility. I changed my vote!

I wish Romney had been elected. Sigh.

How about just a stroll on the grounds? Sometimes, the Lord speaks more clearly on the grounds of the temple.

Thanks for telling me about the voter registration changes. I was approaching despair. I wish the Democrats would get their act together. The whole world wishes that the Democrats would get their act together! Are foreigners allowed to contribute to American candidates? I suspect that foreign funding would be unpopular! Trump might well be elected if he ran today. There is nothing, nothing so appealing to voters as a tax cut.

What! You can’t fit them all in ONE room! I cannot bare it! Tell me no more! 😫 Combining the high priests and the elders has given the priesthood a much needed shot in the arm up here. Both groups look relieved and happy. With both groups together, car pooling is much easier. I remember looking for the church building when I moved here. I saw an exhausted man in a white shirt wrestling his son into a car. The man was trying manfully not to swear. I knew that I had found home. Crrently my Relief Society president is recovering from transplant surgery. She has not told her doctors that she is RS president. They would kill her. Her husband serves in the bishopric. My bishop is a refugee from a war torn country. He can speak passable English if he really concentrates. He does not drive, i have no idea how we survive from one year to the next. I so wish that we would decide to have Sunday School one week and Priesthood the next. But wards never seem to reduce the load in this way. My temple president drove from the states last week in search of more workers. We looked at him sadly.

I don’t get the republican/Democrat positions. Of course they are antagonistic towards each other as they are both fighting against each other. But both parties seem very badly run. I don’t understand why either party behaves as they do. The democratic party’s method of choosing candidates seems unlikely to produce a candidate that will appeal to democratic voters. The need for democratic candidates to produce set sums of money in order to be supported by their party would seem likely to lead to candidates with unsavoury reputations. And why don’t successful democrats like Obama do more to build up the party? And why not have a system in which the government registers voters instead of requiring voters to get registered? Sigh. Oh well, it is not as though Canada doesn’t have a huge list of problems! Previously, Canada was happy with parties that supported trade, although I certainly understand why the supply management system in Canada raises eyebrows! Often republican presidents were pro free trade. I am sad because my students will have a harder time finding jobs. All it takes is minor uncertainty and companies defer hiring recent grads. 😞

I know little about American politics. I wonder what is going on with Trump and Russia. It is hard to understand Trump’s motives in being so supportive of Putin.

@jmom I am so sorry to hear of your pain. You have really been through it! Have you tried to fast? Perhaps a trip to the temple, just a walk on the grounds might help. Can you try to make a partnership with God? You can tell him your troubles. I know it is hard when the heavens are silent! Praying for you! Why not put your name on the prayer list at the temple? If you google your local temple, you may find an email. Good luck!
