  1. Your mention of Lehi's vision led me to this Ensign talk. It was edifying for me and I enjoyed it. https://www.lds.org/ensign/2011/10/lehis-dream-holding-fast-to-the-rod?lang=eng
  2. I remember our live nativity got egged one christmas, our building was vandalised two or three times during my youth, minor like a broken window or some graffiti on the outside. I am grateful that is all I have to deal with though, I remember a while ago some right wing group staged an armed protest outside of a Islamic mosque. Smh people.
  3. It is not me with whom you must seek forgiveness, but yourself. You are missing out on some great picture stories.
  4. Clearly you haven't been looking at the pictures in the children's edition enough.
  5. I like my sci-fi a bit more like futuristic fantasy. Most sci-fi is essentially that anyways.
  6. Huh? Who said that? Certainly not I. I said you cannot decieve and be sincere. Being sincere means that I am doing something and when I tell you why I am doing it I am being honest and genuine about my intentions and whatnot. Nothing about whether those intentions are good or in your favor or whether I am wrong etc...
  7. @cdowis, The universe began expanding from a singularity is, in my opinion, a more accurate way to describe the Big Bang rather than saying the universe began then. I also don't see any conflict with eternity and the Big Bang.
  8. Sincerity means to be free of decit, you cannot sincerely lie.
  9. I can second that, I know the Baptists here in my town have on occasion talks about how wrong and cultish the Mormons are. When my wife was considering converting she was invited (by her Aunt) for a chat with their preacher and handed a fat stack of anti-mormon literature along with a signed copy of the NIV of the Holy Bible. I don't think she attended a day of church in her life but suddenly it was important to "save her" from the Mormons. We still have that Bible, I do kind of like how this one demphasises the verse numbering so that it's still there but easy to ignore. Makes the reading flow a bit easier I thought.
  10. To be honest. I actually think sincerity does play in. Who is worse, the one who believes they are trying to show you the light and save your soul or the one who's only desire is to show off how smart and right they are and how dumb and wrong you are and does so under a guise of ignorance or care?
  11. Fwiw Byron. This is the internet. This is written word. It often comes off harsher and colder than it is intended. It's very easy to read emotions into it based on our own filters and expectations. I find often it is best attempt to clarify with another poster rather than ignore them when they rub a bit harsh on me. We are also quite a diverse bunch, you'll never please everyone.
  12. I do hope that you continue to participate here.
  13. What Vort said. There are bots that crawl public forums like this to glean peoples personal information.
  14. http://www.ldsliving.com/9-Things-People-Get-Wrong-about-Mormons/s/77310/ It's 9 things people get confused about regarding Mormons. I thought Facebook must be crawling LDS.net.... You know it just might actually be doing that....
  15. If he went around actively seeking to convince others that religion, diety, and the whole lot is rubbish I'd label him anti-theist. If he only brought it up if the situation was one of sharing beliefs I'd still call him just an atheist.
  16. You used to be church right? Yeah you are an old timer. Admit it.
  17. Goes to show written word is so easy to read into! A little clarification goes a long way. Semantics shmantics
  18. Welcome to LDS.net Doria!
  19. Oh come on. I'm friends with a few atheists and some of them would be insulted by the anti-theist connection. Can I not give my input without offending?
  20. I don't agree Carb. What you are calling an atheist I'd call an anti-theist. Not all atheists are anti-theist but all anti-theists are atheists. Agnostics aren't sure if there's a God or not, atheists generally have made up their mind that there isn't one.
  21. I'm honestly amazed anyone who participated in Byron's threads thinks he was in anyway sincere. He pointedly ignored almost every sincere attmept to engage on his questions. The only attempt at it was in the Galatians thread and there it was a "you are wrong, I am right" type of engagement not a "oh that's how you see it but I disagree" type of engagement. I tried, I tried to tell Byron what he was doing that tripped so many alarms, stank of shotgunning little one liners to shake leaves off of the tree. I was trying to give the benefit of the doubt right up until he posted that leaves of grass thing. I can see only two ways he could have come across that, in some sort of anti mormon seminar that fell for Jeff Lindsey's satire, or by googling for anti-mormon issues and falling for the satire. I asked how he learned of it and he ignored me.
  22. Good bye Byron.
  23. Some are better at it than others. I wouldn't say it happens with great frequency, but now and then.
  24. Hmmm, I don't believe for a moment that the Holy Bible or the Book of Mormon *are* the gospel of Christ. Rather they both teach and expound upon the gospel of Christ. The Gospel of Christ is a set of beliefs which were explained earlier in the thread.
  25. I guess I fall between the idea's presented in this thread. I like Halloween, the costumes are fun. I enjoyed some of the displays at houses on our blocks. There were a few haunted porches that were fun, some a little too scary for my niece and nephew (masks really freak them out) There was a clown riding around our neighborhood with balloons. There was a super creepy clown walking around. The kids enjoyed it all (the niece has a thing about clowns too, the face paint I guess scares her). Our kids dressed up as a zebra, a monkey, an elephant, a creeper from the game minecraft (he snuck up on all the kids dressed as steve from minecraft and exploded, it was funny), and princess Sophia from a cartoon. They loved it, if my Wife and I were more on our game we were going to dress as zoo keepers and get all of the kids as zoo animals but it didn't happen.
