  1. It's stupid to ask a new couple "When are you going to have kids"? Count me as stupid then. Most couples have children, it's an assumed function of marriage. It's part of why marriage exists. If a couple doesn't want kids they will just have to get used answering "We don't plan on having any". Why is that a big deal? Perhaps I should just become a social hermit and not ask any questions about your life for fear of asking more doltish questions. I don't think there's anything wrong with the assumption that a marriage will produce children if biologically capable. Perhaps I am just an insensitive dolt, there's probably even a grain of truth to that. I think it is an innocent question. Own your decisions, if you don't want children, own it. Why would the assumption that you would or should want to have children make you feel bad?
  2. And not crying their heads off when the bread and water passes toddlers. Letting them participate is good for that too.
  3. For peace! and the destruction of Israel
  4. Let them have their pastafarian club. Whatever.
  5. Great! When are you bringing fido over? You are right, it was a poor comparison. It doesn't convey what I actually wanted to convey. Maybe. I brought it up only because no one* is ritually sacrificing animals on an altar before eating them. Imho it would be a very strange thing to do. Likewise justifying circumcision based on the fact that it was once a sign of a covenant is equally very strange. In my opinion. *No regular sane people at least, I hope. I'm speaking of contemporary Christians.
  6. The idea that it's inconvenient to circumcise oneself later in life if one wishes to do so being used to justify a cosmetic surgical operation on an infant's genitals strikes me as bizarre. I too view the whole thing as genital mutilation that is only acceptable due to cultural reasons. It may be inconvenient to circumcise later in life but those who were circumcised can never be intact again, ever. Circumcision amputates the most sensitive part of a male's anatomy and also modifies sexual function. All so that we don't have to clean one extra body part while we shower? Come on. I personally didn't circumcise any of my boys and I strongly encourage parents to very carefully consider whether this procedure is necessary. It is no longer part of a covenant with God. I'm sure many of you would be concerned if I began sacrificing sheep on an altar because "Hey, it used to be a commandment so it can't be a bad thing right?... right?"
  7. I'm currently constructing a tabernacle on minecraft, I'm not trying to make an exact likeness but I am using the Brigham City Tabernacle as my template. Currently only the front face is done, I feel like my central tower/spire needs something more
  8. I can only assume it's related to this Brigham Young quote: To me it's akin to teachings from the Holy Bible and the Book of Mormon which indicate that the 12 called by Christ in Israel will assist in the final judgement of the Jews and that the the 12 called in the americas will assist in the judgement of the Nephites and Lamanites. Likewise Joseph Smith, according to Brigham Young, will assist in the judgement of those in this dispensation.
  9. I'm not sure why you're so strongly associating the term collection with a mandatory payment. It simply describes the act of gathering monies. Heck one of its definitions is associated with charitable giving.
  10. Is that just? Is the fact that he doesn't have to pay recompense perfectly just? I don't believe it is, and I believe our Father is. That is my simple response to this small portion.
  11. That forum would be helpful! I didn't catch that "at most 1.6" either. I'll do some poking around on that tech forum right now.
  12. So I run Linux exclusively and I'm trying to get indexing to work. Unfortunately I'm rather clueless as to how to get it to actually run. I've downloaded a script from familysearch.org using wget: wget https://indexing.familysearch.org/downloads/Indexing_unix.sh But the script bombs out checking for Java (I do have openjdk 1.8) jeremy@main:~/geneaology$ ./Indexing_unix.sh ln: failed to create symbolic link '/home/jeremy/geneaology/jre/bin/*': No such file or directory No suitable Java Virtual Machine could be found on your system. The version of the JVM must be at least 1.6 and at most 1.6. Please define INSTALL4J_JAVA_HOME to point to a suitable JVM. You can also try to delete the JVM cache file /home/jeremy/.install4j jeremy@main:~/geneaology$ java -version openjdk version "1.8.0_91" OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_91-8u91-b14-3ubuntu1~16.04.1-b14) OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.91-b14, mixed mode) I'm not sure if I need to edit the script so I can fake out the java check or.... I just don't know.
  13. I don't doubt that. It's an extremely unfortunate state of affairs.
  14. Normally I wouldn't do this, I mean I get people pray in different manners. (for the record I am not a Republican nor am I Democrat though I do lean conservative) But this popped up in my facebook and I couldn't help but notice how... self praising and shallow the invocation was at the DNC. It reminds me of the Zoramites prayers in the Book of Mormon: Alma 31: 15 - 17 . And then the crowd roaring during an invocation? I know some denominations will throw out some "hallelujahs" and "praise Jesus's" but that seemed extremely irreverent for an invocation, more like a self praising speech if you ask me.
  15. These "satanists" are just a bunch of atheists trying to point out that we (collectively) aren't really for freedom of religion when we disagree with the religion. I'm not sure what's more annoying and childish, these guys or the pastafarians.
  16. Fwiw, as I understand it the creator of Pokemon was an insect collector as a boy, he created Pokemon to resemble collecting insects (that's why they have stages they evolve through) and turned it into a fun fantasy game. The creator thought of it when gameboys came out, he thought it would be really great that players could link up and trade the creatures. The games for gameboy preceded the animation series.
  17. Mostly for the sake of debate and because I like to take the underdog position. War tends to do that. Besides I thought calamities do as a matter of fact take more men's lives than women's. Not because the calamity itself is selective but because, well gender roles. Men tend (note this is a generality, not applicable to each and every individual) to be the ones that face danger and serve a protection role for women and children. Also, as a side thought.... what about wealth? It's unequally distributed. Couldn't wealthy men afford to have much larger families than poor men? That's how polygamy tended to work in past times isn't it. Wealthy guys got the girls because they could afford it.
  18. But have you seen the one of the guy firing one with the stock on the tip of his nose? I mean I knew ar-15's were pretty gentle, but dang.
  19. Windows *finally* added virtual desktops! That is cool! (yes that was backhanded, but it is actually cool)
  20. This has the workings of a great signature. One thing has me confused about this fuel-cell but maybe I'm just slow. It says it uses heat to reform ethanol into hydrogen which then is used to generate electricity. It mentions that it is a high heat system. Where is it getting this heat from? Is it also burning the ethanol to produce heat?
  21. Maybe his handwriting was bad. Hey, calc has a lot of Greek characters, greece is on the border between Europe and the middle east. Close enough
  22. For me the killer on electrics is that recharge time. It's horrendous. I (opinion) think we need battery tech better than Li-Ion to make electric mainstream. For some reason I have a romance with the idea of flywheels. I understand there are some physics issues with flywheels in a vehicle that turns and accelerate/decelerates quickly... they resist turning and they float on magnetic bearings, if they bump against stuff they will quite literally disintegrate and throw shrapnel everywhere. Supposedly it's possible to isolate the flywheels and overcome those issues. But hey they have a very quick recharge time, they pump out tremendous amounts of power very quickly, and they are very efficient with energy transfer.
  23. Be doesn't use the word "all" though does he.
  24. Perhaps it's because I, we, grew up reading the KJV, but I don't find it *that* hard to read. I mostly understand it's archaic english. Read from it out loud sometime, man, does it sound pretty. It really retains that poetic form better than any other translation I've heard. If it were up to me, Jacobian english would be the new old thing. It sounds great. But maybe that's just because it is archaic. I find it interesting that wasn't the KJV actually looked down on initially *because* it was easy for the common man to understand?
  25. Yes. Yes they have. I recall seeing people watching StarCraft 2 championships with a mod that let you embed twitch feeds.
