  1. @SpiritDragon Life *has* gotten busy for me, and the threads I have interest in more sparse it seems. I do still lurk around a bit, but I barely have time to even lurk the forums lately. All sorts of warm fuzzy's that you noticed I've been gone! I guess I should throw a few more compliments if I'm going to post. @Vort I typically enjoy your straight forward, no beating about the bushes style of posting. I can recall reading your posts several times thinking "I was thinking that, only vort put it much more succinctly and accurately than I ever could have." @prisonchaplain You have to be the coolest guy here. I respect how well you communicate with those not of your faith and how respectful of others beliefs you are. I can remember in one thread in particular you cleared up some misunderstandings I had of trinitarian beliefs and I understand it much better now thanks to you. @unixknight You are a linux guy, so by default I like you. I'm actually working on a raspberry pi project right now. It's a little pi car that will be controlled in a first person view. I Intend, when it's done, for the pi to server as a wifi access point, so that a phone can connect to it via wifi and control it via a webapp that's hosted on the car. It's a fun project, I've learned a lot about php and a little about javascript so far. I've got the nuts and bolts working but not much polish yet. @mirkwood Maybe it's because I have not been around much, but I'm shocked and disappointed by the lack of zombie threads I see, October is right around the corner. I'm pretty sure this is somehow a compliment, I'm not sure how yet.
  2. It took me a solid 10 seconds of staring at TCOJCOLDS to figure out what that was supposed to be πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ˜‚
  3. One thing that's probably been brought up, how much can you trust a YouTube video? I mean, is it even a real recording? The only people that could tell you if it's authentic by and large will likely refuse to even watch it. Anybody that secretly recorded a temple ceremony, if it is in fact authentic, is involved in deceit already. How trustworthy is anything they put forth? My personal thought is "yes you should follow your promptings to find out more, get baptized, live worthily and attend yourself!"
  4. Great, now I'll have weasel stomping day playing in my head all day. Thanks Vort. Thanks. πŸ˜‘
  5. Unless you work for Apple, no it doesn't. No, it's annoying that Apple came up with a great protocol, but they can't open the standard up and improve cross-compatibility. Times have changed. On the cloud, on mobile platforms, on embedded devices open source is King. No one wants devices that only feature their good features when interacting with devices from one company. People want products that work across platforms.
  6. Still don't see all of this supposed source code Apple released. And yes, that is how that works. If someone creates a messaging protocol if they want others to take adavantage of it they'd have to allow other applications to communicate using that protocol. Like the SMS protocol, and the RCS protocol. Google helped push RCS as a means to get *everyone* using a modern mesaging protocol. It didn't go so well with Apple talk (I think that's what they called their own networking protocol if I recall correctly) vs tcp/ip. I predict the same future for iMessage as RCS kicks in.
  7. Use a data based messenger that isn't locked to a single platform for no reason at all. Such as WhatsApp, Allo, Facebook messenger, or a number of other data based messenger apps. Guess what! You wouldn't have to use another application to talk to non-iOS users if Apple didn't lock their messaging application down to one platform. No one else does this. It's absurd. Apple is the one that refuses to open their API so that Android's can participate in iMessage, or even build an iMessage app for other os's. Which reminds me, I'm still waiting for that source code link btw. I mean, then I could just download the source code for iMessage and get to work porting it to Android so you won't have to deal with that green bubble anymore!
  8. I have a full beard, but I still clean up high on my checks and on my throat. I use a double edged safety razor. The kind that you unscrew a piece on the handle and it opens up and you place a little razor inside it. Absolutely love the thing. They take a bit of practice to get used to, the blades are vastly cheaper. I bought a pack of 100 blades sometime last year for 20 bucks and since I only do clean up I've barely put a dent in them. If I was regularly shaving I'd probably go through a razor a week or so. I have a mug with some shaving soap that came with my 100 blade pack, it has also lasted this whole time. I use boar bristle brush to lather up the soap.
  9. Browsing my phone's newsfeed today I cringed a little when I saw this headline. "Mormon church leader wants people to stop using 'Mormon.'" I find it hard to not use the word Mormon, heck just last night I was talking to a guy and it came up that I was Mormon, he then asked me where my hat was, and if that's why I had a beard Hat? I started laughing, "what hat!?" I think he was thinking about Judasim, idk. I didn't want to try saying that I'm LDS, knowing I'll have to clarify that I'm Mormon anyways. Saying "I'm a latter-day saint" sounds like I'm bragging. "I go to the Church of Jesus Christ" doesn't sound definitive enough, sounds like I'm talking about your generic Christian chapel down the block. Maybe I'll try using that but I have a feeling I'll always end up saying I'm "Mormon" to clear things up.
  10. I find organic costs too much for nothing. I like to get my evolution with a heavy dose of lab assisted gmo to steer it along. Usually it's in aisle C14 or thereabouts.
  11. Oh my, I'm hoping this will be a weekly comic!
  12. Yes. The Android operating system is fully open source*. https://source.android.com/ *The Android you have on your phone is that open source project, with a little sprinkled on top by Google. They source from this open source project, they also contribute back to it. But not everything they sprinkle on top makes it back to AOSP (Android Open Source Project).
  13. @anatess2 Well that's great news! I'm glad apple has decided to stop leeching off of open source projects and is ready to contribute back to the community! What is the link to download their source code?
  14. No. No it's not. Apple doesn't allow anyone to download their source code and they don't license it so that you can modify the code for your own use, they don't let you distribute modifications and they don't let you contribute code back to their OS. They just ordered some leaked, empahsis in leaked, meaning they never wanted it there, source code off of GitHub, which is the opposite of opening up their source.
  15. I can't download the source code to iOS and modify it to run on another device, or at all for that matter. I'm not talking about developing for the iOS platform. I'm talking about the freedom to use iOS as I wish, not just as apple wishes.
  16. For me the difference is freedom. With Apple I'm using what they sold me and I can't change it in any meaningful way. Android on the other hand is an open source project. (Well google throws their own stuff on top but you can get Android in it's pure form, it's called Android Open Source Project, all Android devices are derived from this same base) You can actually download the source code and modify it to suit your needs. Android itself has a Linux kernel at it's heart. Which is another open source project which has launched a revolution in computing. (Your router likely has a Linux kernel beating inside it, your smart TV too, some cars are starting to build custom Linux based os's for their smarter cars). The reason open source projects are cool is because it gives developers the freedom to develop software and modify it for specific use cases that a proprietary project like Windows or iOS can't ever match. So for me the Android vs iOS debate truly boils down I don't like being trapped in apples cage, no matter how well they polish it.
  17. On occasion I listen to The Way I Heard It by Mike Row. It's a mildly interesting podcast where he tells a story about how a certain famous figure came to become what they are known for but he doesn't reveal their name until the end. And that is as far into the podcast worlds as I have ventured. I was wondering if you fine folks knew of any uplifting LDS podcasts? I did a small amount of searching and saw a few but then I noticed John Delins name was attached to one, so I thought instead of just jumping in and wading through mud that maybe I should get some recommendations for good, faith inspiring content. Also what do you use? I just jumped into the podcast section of Google Play Music, so is there a particular service or app for android? For a Linux desktop? Something that works on a google home mini?
  18. @mordorbund Interesting. I had no idea of those other meanings for celibate. I thought celibate meant only total abstinence from sexual relations. I didn't know it could also mean remaining unmarried as well. I don't know if it's just my perspective or not, but I think celibate, at least in these days, is usually meant to mean sexual abstinence. I mean, I didn't even know about the other meaning!
  19. @carlimac @pwrfrk I've got a real life friend that believes this exact scenario is a real thing. She used the priesthood becoming available to people of all lineages as her example too. The issue is they aren't comparable. The priesthood ban, at it's introduction, was said to be temporary (even if Brigham Young didn't think it would happen before the second coming of Christ, he still acknowledged this wasn't a permanent thing). Who does and doesn't hold the priesthood isn't a core foundational doctrine of the church. To change who is eligible doesn't contradict any core doctrine. The family though? The nature of the family? That stuff is core. It's foundational. If Pres. Nelson got up and announced that the church was wrong about the nature of the family and said that same gender unions were sanctioned by God that would contradict core, foundational, scriptural doctrine. If that happened it would mean at the very least that Pres. Nelson wasn't speaking for God. It would mean Pres. Nelson was leading God's church astray. I don't believe God would allow his church to be lead astray like that. If that happened it would shake my faith to the very core. Because I believe that The Church of Jesus Christ is truly Christ's church here on earth, and Pres. Nelson was called by God to lead His church. My simple response is that your comparison is flawed, and it's a silly hypothetical that won't ever happen.
  20. The conflict comes in intentionally placing yourselves in a place of temptation. Satan works hard to prevent worthy couple's marrying and I find it unwise to intentionally put yourselves in a position where it would be so, so easy to give in. Very unwise.
  21. I enjoyed Yerba Mate. I've drank NA beer, and alcohol free wine. Flavored drink mixes too. I don't feel like any of those are a violation of my covenants. I don't feel like it's even pushing any sort of gray area imho.
  22. Bah, I love a good cup of herbal tea, but then I live in So. Cali where we are currently enduring our 3rd week of straight 100's. I like iced peppermint tea, iced country peach passion, and iced berry zinger. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
  23. Even if we do the paint job in sunburst? Oh well, I can barely pick my way through away in a manger at this point anyways.
  24. Is an ES-339 to irreverent for sacrament? I mean it's got f-holes, that makes it classy right? I can even turn off distortion!
  25. The only workaround I could think of is to go all out and install a 32-bit version of Windows. But who wants to do that unless they really, really need this specific software?
