  1. On the lighter side of things (There is no explicit content in this song) Wow I was wrong, unlinking song.
  2. In counterpoint though, sex, but not just sex, physical intimacy IS an important part of marriage. I often do feel that when problems in a marriage arise from physical intimacy and a male partner feels unloved and has a hard time with it, he's given a resounding "chin up, man up, take it, do all of these romantic things, do everything around the house, date her, and when she still doesn't want you, and refuses to even touch you, that's just too bad." Then when it comes to advice for the wife on how to meet her husbands needs there's crickets. When you've pledged an eternity to someone, you do expect a degree of effort to meet needs in return. I mean talk about the burden being unequally yoked. My marriage right now is suffering from intimacy problems. We are working on it, I know she does love me, but you sure don't feel like it when she won't touch you despite all the effort you are putting into dating her and trying with everything you have to be a good husband. I simply can't understand what the issue is if two people love each other, why can't some physical magic happen? Knowing your wife loves you is different than feeling like you are loved if that makes any sense. (note I'm not asking for advice here, just relating that, well, I feel the op, I can understand why he may feel what he feels)
  3. What exactly is a spouse that gave the marriage their all and never quite on it to be judge for exactly? I would fear to be a spouse who throw in the towel and gave up on their sacred covenant long before I'd fear to attempt to keep my marriage together.
  4. Could you prove there was less?
  5. Honestly I'd say the answer is yes. On the one hand, the world collectively is less violent and more accepting than ever before. On the other hand, we are becoming accepting of some morally disgusting behavior, God is becoming increasingly mocked, shunned, and ignored. His word is becoming increasingly perverted by faiths.
  6. Me not being knowledge enough about history, is it possible that theocracy is to blame and not the specific religion which held theocracy in this case? From my little knowledge I can see more of a pattern there than I can see in just Christianity specifically.
  7. Sounds like an undemonstrative slippery slope to me.
  8. One thing I have noticed, is America's right wing tends to not be the same as the worlds right wing. So often what we American's see as being "right wing" is actually classical liberalism. Which may be why many of us are perplexed at the idea of fascism being right wing. I admit, I had always thought of Nazi'sm as a left wing idea, until I read on the internet that I was apparently wrong about that. Just my little opinion, and I may be wrong.
  9. I think that's taking it a bit far, there's an awful lot of dead guys birthdays, or simply days set apart to celebrate their achievments that are celebrated in some fashion that I wouldn't think twice about. (George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr., Columbus day probably some more that I'm forgetting) A select few who are really into the subject might even have a little celebration on those days.
  10. I'm glad they changed, I like the gothic look.
  11. I have to admit, I do think it a bit odd to celebrate a prophets birthday. I mean I get it, I do get that Joseph Smith ushered in the last dispensation and he's a rather big, important prophet. I don't honor many birthdays outside of immediate families. I mean, Christ's birthday is a big celebration. Martin Luther King day I always post something on facebook, maybe I'll start posting a Joseph Smith quote on the 23rd and that'll be my honorary. I doubt it though, unfortunately for the prophet, his birthday is just in an unfortunate calender spot and I'll probably be too Christmastimed out to give him a nod. He should've been born in April haha!
  12. Stop dating each other. At the very least don't be alone together. I've been in your shoes, I didn't serve my mission because of the choices I made. I will forever regret that. If you continue to see each other, it's a given you will slip further and further, these urges are just too strong to control. You must avoid the situations which allow you to act on them.
  13. Are you sure you weren't talking to a scammer trying to prey on your sympathies for his "plight"?
  14. We celebrate it in California, at least in my little section.
  15. In this thread http://lds.net/forums/topic/55461-if-you-were-not-lds-what-religion-would-you-be/?p=793946 Traveller alleges that Christianity ushered in the dark ages and the genocide of Americans (as in people who natively lived on this continent, not as in United States of America Nationals) on the North and South American continents. I certainly don't belong to that school of thought. While I'm no historian, I generally understand the collapse of the Roman empire (which wasn't caused by it's conversion to Christianity) caused the regressive period in Europe known as the dark ages, and that priests and monks tended to be the only class of people making attempts at furthering science and keeping histories during this time period in the region. As far as the American continent goes, disease is what caused a rampant decline in population, I am aware there was rampant religious persecution but it's not what wiped out up to 90% of the native population. Maybe some history buffs can chime in .
  16. Why? Did someone accuse you of saying that? My post was an illustration, a type. I made a claim, and cited a source which didn't support my claim. In my other post I made a claim and then cited a source that wasn't verifiable. Who are those people I cited? Where did they get this info? Are they experts on the subject? Are they privy in anyway to knowledge about the subjected I cited them on? Perhaps this dead horse has been beaten, but I'll give it one last whack then let it be. We all get the prophets are fallible imperfect beings, I even in moments of weakness draw strength from that fact. Buy I can not tolerate slander and character assisnation of great men. Brigham Young seems to get it in many ways much worse than even Joseph Smith Jr. Does. Let us not join in the crowd to throw tomatoes, after all, I expect one day to meet them. What would Brigham say about my dragging his name through the mud?
  17. An anonymous mission president and a former bishop once told me righteous minds cannot blown.
  18. Correction, pages of omgasa-something-or-the-other making bogus accusations citing bogus sources. Like this: Mormons don't celebrate Christmas - John 3:15
  19. Smithmas haha. Learn something new everyday. That's just silly, we can't hold a mas because we aren't catholic. (get it? get it!?) Is this like... a real thing? Do people actually do that?
  20. I *think* chaplains are more like, the people that come visit you at the hospital, or give you faith based counsel in the military, or faith based counsel at a university. I'm sort of the blind telling the blind what the color red is though so pay me no mind haha.
  21. That's one of the kind that lasts long enough for you to cleanly shutdown a computer and that's about it. Better have a nice diesel generator to kick in before the loaf of bread goes to waste. Not overkill *at all*
  22. But don't they just taste amazing!?
  23. I'm surprised this thread hasn't been locked. I would expect to read wild, far-fetched, unsourced accusations flung about in some other sites I have visited, but not this one. This thread has molded into a ridiculous rant.
  24. I would like to point out that you can point out Brigham Young's racism all day, it doesn't actually prove that the ban was implemented because he was racist. I also don't believe David O. McKay's revelation to leave the ban in place is proof that the ban was enacted by God. It shows God did see it fit to leave it in place, one reason I could think of that God might leave a ban enacted by man in place is it's potential to cause a rift in the church at that time. This is one of those issue's that is on the shelf for me, and I'm perfectly happy with the "we aren't really sure" answer to be honest. I can see it both ways.
