why must we perform ordinances for the dead?
jerome1232 replied to cora's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
Questions like that are situational, if for example, you had the opportunity to marry in the temple and you chose to be married civilly, have you not already made your choice? I think Skippy and estradling answered your question well, if God gives a commandment, He will provide a way for you to keep His commandments. It has been revealed to us that temple work will be completed during the millennium with the assistance of resurrected beings. -
Looks like a bunch of baited questions, some built on false premises or ignoring new information and relying on old tired arguments. I believe that this is not an honest attempt to find truth by an ex-member, but a disguised attempt to shake your faith. If you intend to look into these items, FAIR has some good information on the subject. FAIRMormon

Pet peeve: Inappropriate laughter at General Conference
jerome1232 replied to Vort's topic in General Discussion
As a completely divergent thought, have you ever watched a movie you have seen way to many times, and caught yourself laughing in anticipation of a funny scene? I have difficulty staying on a topic sometimes, I had a related it thought but it's gone now, sorry. -
Luckily my most oft-used set of scriptures has already downloaded the update

What was used for bread?
jerome1232 replied to Bini's topic in Learn about The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints
Well when using water we change the word "wine" for the word "water", thus one would assume it would be appropriate to change the word "bread' to "potatoes" or "crackers" or whatever it was you were using for the ordinance. yes? -
Prayer and counsel with local leaders, just like it always is in these rare exceptional cases.

Here I thought the punk look died in the 90's.

That's just not true, I've seen this type of terminology used by all kinds of x-insert-religion here'ists. There are atheists who wage a war against all religion because of their bitter experience with one religion and use some type of ex-theist terminology in a derogatory manner. I've seen very anti-Christian ex-Christians who use the same kind of terminology (ex-bible-thumper, ex-Jesus-freak etc...) to denote their past in a similar matter. Bitterness and anger are the common theme when that is done.

I couldn't agree more, you can't use unjust laws as justification for more unjust laws, although I do differ in that I believe there may at times be exceptions in the case of rape victims and thus the choice should be left up to them rather than compelling all rape victims to carry to term. Emphasis to highlight that I don't think all or even most circumstances in question are exceptions, just that there may be exceptions.

Compounds are much better for hunting because they relax when they are fully drawn, and take much, much less strength to hold fully drawn than a recurve does.

I'm a sucker for these kind of jokes. I give it 11 out of 10.

The answer is no. I take it sometimes when I get the flu (about every other year I'll get it, sometimes less) and need to be able to sleep. I don't use it ritually on a regular basis in any way.

So when I take Nyquil (alcohol 10% plus dextromethorphan, a substance that is used recreationally) for a flu to help me sleep, do you feel I am also violating the WoW?

Mine may or may not have been inspired by this thread. You are probably right, everybody will tout some semblance of being a natural drink if it's at all possible.

Yeah, I couldn't do could turkey. I'd have to be locked up for that to happen. Weaning has worked well for reducing the amount I drink. Every now and then I end up visiting my shady pepsi dealer (ha!) and regressing on the amount I drink. Yerba Mate? I'll have to try that, where do you purchase it? I'm fortunate enough to have a ridiculously high metabolism and so I have difficulty gaining weight, even the soda doesn't really put anything on, I'm more concerned about the risk of diabetes than anything to do with caffeine. *sigh* I agree with Pam, I couldn't imagine having to drop say, a heroine addiction, when I can barely control a caffeine/sugar addiction.

I'm convinced I need to drop my Pepsi habit, I was at the point that I would go get 2 2 liters and drink through them both in a day. I've managed to significantly reduce the amount I drink but I can't seem to go more than a day or two with out at least having a 20 oz bottle. I seem to want it the most when I'm in for some heavy homework or studying. Pepsi seems to be the only one I go crazy on, if I have any other soda in the house, Coca-Cola included, I'll barely drink it. Relatively at least. The thing that has helped me the most so far is substituting other flavored beverages, such as Pero (roasted barely drink, much like postum) or herbal teas. Have any of you guys kicked the soda habit successfully? Was it difficult? How did you do it?

I'll believe it when I see both parts of the recipe.

That being said, raspberry zinger tea is amazing. Just about all of the fruit tea's taste great imho.
