  1. If there ever was an error found in a language translation, they would be able to verify and correct it by comparing it to the source.
  2. Oh no, you don't need to be nice. I know full well how dense I am. I absolutely misunderstood the point you were trying to get across.
  3. I'd get a full body tattoo of myself.
  4. I've heard of the Benadryl juice, even NyQuil, but vodka? Seriously? At least get the kid started out on a quality liquor. A nice bourbon. But not vodka. She deserves to be in jail.
  5. I just got done sorting through all the pictures from the wedding and reception, it is a MAGNIFICENT cape
  6. I know a couple who fornicated the night before their sealing and decided to keep it to themselves and be sealed anyway. A year later, the guilt got the best of them and they went to the Bishop to repent. They were disfellowshipped. They worked their way back into the church, and now all is well. Don't go into the temple if you know you are unworthy. God will not be mocked.
  7. I was asked if I had ever taken part in an abortion during my interview with the missionaries. They told me that included paying for one, or being the father. The Bishop asked me the same thing. I must give off the wrong impression.
  8. I think pairing the Book of Mormon with a gun made out of Tupperware sends the wrong message. But seriously, I have noticed missionary work being talked about more, my ward just sent out a member missionary packet to each member. It includes a list about setting goals for missionary work, lists of different items to have on hand to help an investigator with questions.
  9. So which version of the scriptures is your faith based on, and why is that version the authoritative version
  10. I moved to happy valley a year after I converted. 9th state I've lived in, and I have never felt more "at home" than I do here.
  11. My intention was to point out the sections of each verse or quote that was most important to the topic. I've talked about things being quoted out of context, I was trying not to cherry pick bits and pieces so as not to be a hypocrite. That's all. I apologize For what it's worth, I think you'll be waaay ahead of me in the line to the celestial kingdom, Trinity or no Trinity. I struggle to not come off as confrontational as I do. I'm still learning how. It's a process. Hugs?
  12. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints says this about the Bible ... Official doctrine of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints says this about the Bible ... Articles of Faith 1:8 Doctrine and Covenants 42:12 Modern day apostle James E. Talmage says this about the Bible ... Here is the problem ... John Mill... So what does that lead to? My hope in all this is that a few points will be made clear: 1: The Bible is scripture in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 2: The Bible is respected by Mormons 3: "As far as it is translated correctly" is not unreasonable There have been lots of threads lately about competing ideas between faiths, Prison Chaplin has been an amazing teacher in the ways of non-LDS doctrine. This has lead to several threads about specific teachings (mainly the Trinity) and very intense debate. I just want the position of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in regard to the Bible to be communicated and represented correctly.
  13. I wasn't trying to be difficult with my response, I have been struggling with the same question myself for some time now. PC started the thread in in question (I believe) at my request to get his knowledge and perspective on this very subject. I've also been talking with a good friend of mine who believes the Trinity is the nature of Deity, picking his brain as well to try and find "common ground" and the conclusion I came to was that 1 God vs 3 Gods is the irreconcilable difference. That is just my opinion, and my own conclusion. I thought I made it pretty clear in the other thread that I am far and away an expert on anything. Anyone else is free to correct or add to anything I said. I'm not sure why you quoted all of those verses, I'm more confused at why the post is thanked, but if you like I can post an unnecessary list of quotes that clarifies the LDS belief that the Godhead are one in purpose, not in essence or being. But I assume you're aware of that and were just trying to prove ... something. Sorry if my post came off the wrong way.
  14. The fundamental difference between the LDS belief in the Godhead and the doctrine of the Trinity is the belief in 3 Gods as opposed to 1 God. Nothing else beyond this point really matters, whether there's personage(s) of spirit or flesh and bone or something in between, the Trinity begins and ends with one God, and one God alone. There is no common ground past that point.
  15. This is a trap PC. If I'm guess right, there will soon follow scriptural instances of all the practices listed for this hypothetical group.
  16. A government bailout is not exclusive to banks, but a bailout is simply tax dollars made available by the federal government. In some instances the govt loans the money, in some instances it is given with no requirement of reimbursement, and in some cases it is given under specific conditions of how the money is to be used and subject to over site and accountability. The terms of each bailout are determined on a case by case basis. The only bailouts I'm pretty familiar with (without google) are the ones that AIG got. I remember the news coverage of the resort vacations that the people at AIG went on. I remember President Obama publicly denouncing AIG and I remember talks of taxing their bonuses, demanding the bailout money back, I remember how confused I was that you can lose billions of dollars and get a bonus. I remember how Dodd lied about factoring the bonus money into the bailout too. Then I remember the press release that said they didn't have to give back any of the money, and that they got to keep their bonus. Then after all that, I remember more new stories about the good ole' boys at AIG taking more vacations, and getting another bailout despite the bonus scandal, and the vacation controversy. And those are just the things they got caught doing.
  17. I was quite flippant in my post, I thought, I was being sarcastic in trying to point out why education is NOT just commodity, and a matter of finances. [/quote\Higher education is a priviledge. I don't know of a single country in the world that guarantees free college. I will happily accept correction if there is, but how exactly do you guarantee free college to everyone? And how do you guarantee "play money" when other people are starving? All these countries offer free post-secondary education. "Higher Education" is a privilege in a system where, sadly, it really is nothing more than a commodity. If you can't pay, then you get to stay poor and uneducated.
  18. Is the Youtube video the only account for whatever this is?
  19. I love that verse from the Savior where he says that. I imagine He will keep that model during the Millennium. Have to make sure poor people can't get an education otherwise **** would just fall apart.
  20. I'm not sure first gen millionaire = honest, hard working. And 80% gets thrown around a lot, I've never found a source for that number. Inflation plays a role in that too, a million today is far and away what a million was 20 years. The corporate scandals in just the last 10 years has been higher than it's ever been. The DoJ doesn't keep records on corporate crime so I can just speculate on that. Since a trillion dollars was funneled into almost all of the prominent corporations in the last few years, I'd have to say the top tier employees at those corporations who took public money to pay out their bonus don't deserve that money. AIG got $218M in bailout money to pay the bonuses of it's top employees. Then took million dollar vacations over and over and over. They sure don't come off as the hard working type. Bernie Madoff defrauded more money than Enron did. One guy. And that's just what they could prove.
  21. I wasn't aware there was a ban on moral advocacy at all. What exactly does that mean?
  22. Congratulations on not dying last year. Good luck with the year to come.
  23. Welcome to the forum. I did read your whole post and was on board with you until this part. I know there are many reasons people leave the church, I think the reason the stereotypes of being "offended" and "sinning" are the first things people think of first is because those are the ones who leave the church, but can't leave it alone. They're the ones who are on the frontlines of the anti community. They're the voice of the other side. I would love to hear your reasons for leaving if you want to talk about it, but the idea you're enlightened on the apostates, inactives or antis, with some amazing bright and shiny pearl of hidden truth about Mormonism is silly. Revealing the "truth" about Mormonism is the mission of every anti-Mormon website ever made. If there was a 'smoking gun' that once and for all proved the church was a lie, someone would of heard about it by now. EDIT: She left?
