Missionary age: How does this change things in your family?
daboosh replied to Vort's topic in General Discussion
that is awesome and that is how the standard should be. whilst it is my personal belief that we should be encouraging young men to save money for the mission (you get more more out of what you put in), money should never be a hurdle. -

i think its going to pressure some teenage 17 year old boys into going on a mission when they aren't ready. personally, i wasnt sure i had a testimony myself at 17 let alone be able to teach to complete strangers. this doesnt effect me at all because i am 18, turning 19 in 3 months with my mission papers being sent on saturday to salt lake. but i think i have grown so much in the last year spiritually and mentally being an adult in the real world fending for myself. i think the maturity level will drop on the mission field for sure. and the amount of sister missionaries will increase substantially i'd imagine. which is goood haha -

has anybody read this before? it's about missionary work and how to become a more effective missionary. here's a link: The Law of the Harvest HIGHLY recommended to any prospective missionary reading this or anyone interested in missionary work in general. i know i'll be reading this a few more times before i leave for my mission. great read

off topic, where are you going on your mission? 2 months will fly by bro.
-
well, slight set back. because i am in a district, and not a stake, i have to be interviewed by the mission president before turning my papers in. the nearest available date i can be interviewed with him is on october 13th. so my papers will be turned in on october 13th... feels like ages away but so good to know thats when they are going in... yeyah... should get my call early november =)
-
i've pretty much looked at every mission call reading posted on youtube in the last 6 months. there is no "4 month wait time".. from what ive seen its anywhere from 2-6 months.. they will try and put you in as close to your availability date as possible. also my papers are being sent in 2 weeks.. cant wait :)

Sorry for digging up the dead horse but I need some advice
daboosh replied to Backroads's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
well, firstly, you don't ostracize him because he was sent home from his mission early. he would be feeling enough shame without people looking down on him because he didnt live up to the pressure of perfect mormon standards. this sort of attitude towards him will make him feel like more of a failure and want to cave. -

look, this kid is probably finding it hard enough to come home from a mission early despite the pressure to serve a 2 year honorable full time mission. all you and everyone else is doing is discouraging him -
Not even the church. You shouldn't have to be told what to believe. It's something you have to figure out on your own.
-
Exactly. And unfortunately this received witness is something people tend to forget. When you receive that witness it is absolutely imperative you don't ever let go of that what was revealed to you. Don't ever let anybody try and compromise what you feel is real.

welcome to the forum.

it is the best decision you will ever make. submit yourself to god and the truth will be revealed. brother, this establishment is the one true restored gospel of jesus christ.

wow, there were so many misconceptions i had about masonry lol, im glad i browsed through to this thread. the things you hear these days!

people tend to forget that the name 'mormon' is a colloquial. we are Saints. the bottom line is that the church we adhere to, bears the name of Christ. there is no disparity between the "mormon jesus" and the "christian jesus". even our leaders have said that Christ heads our church. he leads it above all else. rant over.

seriously what the heck? ive literally just come out of the young mens program like 4 months ago, and over all the camps i have been into in my time during youth not once have i seen anything close to this.

How/When did you figure out the LDS church was true?
daboosh replied to Chrissy3818's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
there is only one way to gain a testimony for yourself. this medium is known as prayer. through my years in youth, my testimony, or what i thought i knew, was borrowed light. i thought nothing of it until i reached the end of my time in young mens, about 17 years old where i realized i couldn't go on anymore not having a true testimony of my own. i was always a skeptic of prayer and probably couldn't even count on my fingers how many times i had honest heartfelt personal prayers throughout my time in young mens. so i finally decided to give prayer a real go based on the notion 'what have i got to lose'? the truth never deviates. and it never hides. but if you want the truth, you must seek for it. so i applied everything i had learnt in youth and decided to indulge myself in prayer. for the first time in my life i had finally understood what it meant to feel the spirit. what it meant to feel gods love. i wont go in to details as it is a little personal but it was one of the strongest feelings of absolute peace i have ever had in my life. during these few weeks of prayer where i poured my feelings out to to my heavenly father, everything began to make sense. i finally knew my purpose. i had received personal revelation by the power of the holy ghost that this indeed was the one true church of christ on the earth today. now, i challenge you to do as it says in Moroni 10:4 - ask your Eternal Father with a sincere heart and real intent if what you have been taught all your life is true. i promise in doing this you will receive a personal and independent witness of these everlasting truths. God speed. -
congrats on making it to being called to serve! what an honor! i am handing in my papers next month and cannot wait. where were you called? p.s talk with your stake president and all will be sorted out.
