  1. Wow. Seemed like posting this was so long ago. December! Heck! So much has changed since then. But most importantly, my dream - to serve the lord - is slowly but surely becoming a reality. Some updates: - I have been working full time for the last 2 months to save up for my mission. I have about $2,300 so far. - Been to every single Mission Prep class that has been available. Reading the scriptures like you wouldn't believe. And of course I've studied Preach My Gospel and literally read every single word of it, but there is still a lot more study to go. - Gone out with the missionaries where possible. Feeling really comfortable about going out with them now. - Next month, August, I'll be sorting out the Dentistry, Physician and other loose end components of the mission papers. - If all goes to plan, my papers should be complete and handed in some time during September. Yeyah! - And I've worked out that I will be able to contribute $7,000 of my own, hard earned money towards the mission fund. I know it's not all of it but it is the absolute best I can do. February 2013: Destination ??? I can't wait.
  2. just a thought i had - when someone is called to be a mission president, do they have supply their own means throughout their 2-3 year tenure? im thinking they would otherwise wouldn't it be defined as a paid ministry? not trying to bash or start a ruckus but i'm genuinely curious..
  3. i love that the missionaires didnt give up. stay strong brother.
  4. aha, we have mutual friends! i knew it. http://www.facebook.com/willyjk so where are you hoping to be called? it's real nice to see a new convert choosing to serve. you'll do so well in the mission field due to the fact you were in their shoes not too long ago. im interested to hear too, mind sharing your conversion story?

Dwight Howard is coming to LAL. At least I think so. How sick would that be? Kobe going to get 2-3 more rings, and Nash will finally get his ring. Let the good times roll baby.
  7. Welcome to the Forum!
  8. A few passages sprung to mind. Continue to read the scriptures 2 Nephi 28: 29-30 29 Wo be unto him that shall say: We have received the word of God, and we need no more of the word of God, for we have enough! 30 For Behold, thus saith the Lord God: I will give unto the children of men line upon line, precept upon precept, here a little and there a little; and blessed are those who hearken unto my precepts, and lend an ear unto my counsel, for they shall learn wisdom; for unto him that receiveth I will give more; and from them that shall say, We have enough, from them shall be taken away even that which they have. Continue to pray 2 Nephi 32: 8 8 And now, my beloved brethren, I perceive that ye ponder still in your hearts; and it grieveth me that I must speak concerning this thing. For if ye would hearken unto the Spirit which teacheth a man to pray ye would know that ye must pray; for the evil spirit teacheth not a man to pray, but teacheth him that he must not pray. I challenge you to ponder these words in your heart and mind. As already said, we need God and are most vulnerable when we think we don't need God. Lean not into Man's understanding but God's understanding. Please pray to your Heavenly Father - he is there and ready to listen and comfort you whenever you desire. I hope you can get through this. And remember this... "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." Phillipians 4:13. All things are possible through the glory of Christ. Stay strong, Brother.
  9. i have been in this position myself before. i was going through a rough period in my life, stuck between defecting from the church and having friends who weren't members, or hanging onto the iron rod - continue to go to church while feeling alone and stay harmonious with god's commandments and counsel. i chose god, and i have never looked back since. just remember my man, you are never alone when you have God's light in your life. you can truly build a personal relationship with God through the powerful tool of prayer. believe me, i was a skeptic for YEARS on prayer until i actually decided to try. do away with those bad habits. i promise you will be rewarded for your efforts and righteous desires. you will find people who accept you for your beliefs... those that matter, don't mind and those that mind, dont matter! keep yourself close to people who matter! keep soldiering on. it is all worth it. trust me on this. Be strong and of good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them; for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. - Deuteronomy 31:6 good luck and take care.

  11. Men are inherently fallible. The only exception is Christ.
  12. Love it.
  13. In no way do I feel it's too long. I would actually like to have it longer. You only get out what you put in.
  14. Guarantee this will get a laugh or two out of you! I love it haha.
  15. i hope everything works out.
  16. Thanks for the advice all, will take it on board. I wish the year would hurry up so I could leave already!
  17. Hello all! I'm 17, turning 18 next month and am preparing to serve a mission. The thought of serving my lord fills me with so much happiness. I just wish time could hurry up and move on to when I can actually leave. I will be starting full time work next month to save up the designated amount on my own. I am seeking advice on how to truely prepare for doing the lords work. I'll be handing my papers in as soon as I am eligible and leaving as soon as I turn 19 (that's the plan, at least). Just looking for some in-depth advice or tips from a few Returned Missionaries. I've heard the generic "study your scriptures" too oft, but I would really like it if I got some real advice on how to truely serve, preach and teach. Thanks
  18. Sup guys, 17 y.o (18 in 2 months) from New Zealand here, handing in my mission papers in 8 months!!!!! And then planning to go to BYU-Hawaii. I love the gospel!
  19. Hi all, I was just wondering if anybody on these boards attended Brigham Young University-Hawaii and could give me an insight into what it is like to be an international border student there. I am nearly 18 years old and I am planning to attend BYU-Hawaii when I return from my mission (2015), and I would appreciate any relevant insight to the education, lifestyle and whatever else goes on there! Thanks!
  20. So if you advocate or support groups or movements such as Nazism, you can still get a retain a Temple recommend?
  21. Thanks. Well, it's 9 months until I hand my papers in, so there will be a bit of time until I receive the call and the date I am actually called to go. Learning and growing is exactly what I came here to do, thanks
  22. No meaning to it. Just a random alias I came up with a few years ago that stuck
  23. We are cautioned by church leaders to stray from anything mind altering or harmful to our bodies. Alcoholic beverages are inclusive of this precept. Good luck!
  24. Sup guys, really glad to be here. I'm a 17 year old member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints living in New Zealand. I came here through a google search of 'LDS forum', as I've found myself spending too much time on other board specific forums not in tune with the the gospel, and not on anything in the same tune as Armies of Heleman! I have been a member all my life, but not up until recently have I realized what a privilege it is to be born into the fold. I am the sixth of eight children, unfortunately, I am the only active member of my siblings. After returning from a temple trip last week with the youth group, I can say my testimony has taken strides as well as my desire to serve god on an honorable full time mission has grown immensely. I will be handing in my mission papers in about 9 months! So excited. I have also planned to attend BYU-Hawaii after I finish the Lord's Mission, so that should be fun too. I'll just leave you all with a nice scripture I recently came across in Galatians 6:9, it reads; "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." Do good unto your fellow man, you will be blessed! If you have any questions, let me know :)
