  1. Maureen, I really apologize for the misunderstanding. I have become a bit defensive due to attacks on Mormons, partly due to disagreement regarding the nature of God. Do you really believe the non-biblical Nicene Creed? :) I think the part about being "of one substance with the Father" is not true.
  2. Oh, you already referenced that scripture. Nice. And those other references are awesome. Thanks for pointing those out. This is good to clarify.
  3. Okay, I'll study DBT.
  4. I apologize for misreading you. After thinking about it more, I see that it is something that some Latter-day Saints may misunderstand. To summarize D&C 93:7–19: It's very interesting that is says "know what you worship." So I then found 3 Nephi 11:15-17 So it is very appropriate to worship Jesus Christ. I can say that I do agree with the two statements you originally posted:1) Jesus Christ — not Moses, Paul or Joseph Smith — is the object of Mormons’ devotion and worship. 2) For Latter-day Saints, being a Christian means being a disciple of Jesus Christ, loving and worshiping Him above all. In number 2, we just need to keep in mind that worshiping Jesus Christ necessarily means that we are also worshiping the Father.
  5. I only focus on it when I come to this forum.
  6. We've been through this. Skippy wrote: I replied: http://www.lds.net/forums/lds-gospel-discussion/45732-racisim-scripture-5.html
  7. In this case, I'm getting my information directly from the Book of Mormon. I have already checked out all the verses and footnotes, so I'm not going to listen to that fireside. If you have nothing more than a brother who is not a General Authority speaking at a fireside, then it's not worth pursuing further.
  8. Thanks for your thoughts. I need to do some more cognitive therapy. I am not good at sticking to it. Yes, it runs in the family. I'm not sure about who has taken what meds. I have tried Wellbutrin, Zoloft, Ativan, Paxil, Prozac, Celexa, and a few others. I have been on Effexor (venlafaxin) for 9 years. I hate it, but can't leave it. I should check out transcranial magnetic stimulation.
  9. The word "skin" clearly refers to that which is external - on the outside. The Lord caused "a skin of blackness to come upon them" It does not say "a spirit of darkness" or "a heart of darkness" or anything else like that (even though other verses may refer to the spirit). It doesn't make any sense to think that "skin" (outside appearance) refers to a state of spirit. You shouldn't be presenting your speculation as doctrine. How many of those converts might become less active or leave the church because when they realize they have been taught something that is not true.
  10. Wow, don't know when I will have 3 hours. I have read those verses MANY times. I taught many black people on my mission. This speculation wont' change the facts. Sorry.
  11. Oh, dear. I can't stop myself from jumping in. Skippy, that is just not true. I say this because misleading people will not help win souls. What is true is that "the cursing" was not "a skin of blackness." "The cursing" that the Lord caused to come upon the rebellious Lamanites was to be cut off from His presence (see 2 Nephi 5:20–21 ). The Lord caused "a skin of blackness to come upon them" so that the Nephites would not mix, or intermarry, with them and bring the curse upon themselves.Book of Mormon Seminary Student Study Guide - 2 Nephi 5 - A Divided Family Updating footnotes does not change the meaning a verse (unless it's a JST). Footnotes point to other scriptures that are related. Changing chapters headings also do not change the verses. Until there's a clear declaration from the Brethren, you are just speculating and not helping the cause.
  12. I think you are trying to catch us in a snare. You are being very civil about it, and I appreciate that. But this is a fruitless discussion. Can I ask you a question - do you believe the Book of Mormon is the word of God?
  13. I didn't read all the posts, but here's my advise (and I'm a guy who has had a serious porn problem). I think you should not consider marrying the guy until he has been certifiably clean for at least a year. Otherwise, you are in for some hell.
  14. The linked article is good COMMENTARY. Please stop trying to get a "yes" or "no" answer about those two statements and let us expound our beliefs. And here is The Living Christ: The Testimony of the Apostles:The Living Christ: The Testimony of the Apostles The Living Christ: The Testimony of the Apostles
  15. I'll be fine. Don't worry about posting anything more.
  16. Thanks for the comments, everyone.
  17. I hope this is not the wrong place to put this thread. Almost every morning I think "I don't want to be alive anymore" or "I want to do die." Nearly every day I think about suicide. I am also saddened by the following: The Rock of Our Redeemer - general-conferenceThat "MOST of us" part gets to me. I believe I am not included there. For me, sadness and fear do not melt away to be replaced with happiness and peace when I trust in the Lord. That's a bummer. There is no imminent danger, here. Don't call the police or anyone else. I am just looking for some hope.
  18. I don't know why it was added in brackets, but it's still there on the official church website quoting Pres. Hinckley. News of the Church - Ensign Feb. 1998 - ensign
  19. No. MANY of those 80% are not married. Also, the type of porn and the duration make a difference. Whatevs. I don't care to argue about this. I still say the OP should check the computer, though.
  20. I call rubbish on that :). Prophets have told us over and over and over again that pornography DESTROYS lives. Your view on this is way too peachy. My wife hangs out on some other forum. She reads threads about a husband who is distant, cold, mean, a jerk, etc. My wife suggests that he may be viewing pornography. She often gets flack for it. People say "Oh, come on. It's not porn. Bla bla bla." So my wife convinces the wife to check his computer and she finds pornography. It has happened many times. This cold-shoulder thing is a classic symptom.
  21. Innocent people who were slaughtered got to leave their dreadful mortal life. It helps to have a more eternal perspective.
  22. Okay, I guess it's your right to discount the scriptures. :)
  23. I would bet he views pornography. 90% chance. That's usually where the "cold shoulder" comes from.
  24. He will definitely destroy MOST of them. WE are taught to turn the other cheek in day-to-day life, but God can destroy nations. See Old Testament Student Manual - Enrichment I - The Battle of Armageddon: A Prophetic View
