  1. I agree, you can be a member of something or vote for a party but not agree with every single policy they hold to.
  2. This has been an interesting thread, as I don't really know much about the political system in the US. Here in the UK the Democrats and the Republicans are often seen as two sides of the same coin only with one being slightly more extreme than the other! I've also hear them described as right wing and extremely right wing by some people I know. I think that on the whole I would vote Democrat, I think Obama has been a pretty good president, I was reading in the UK press that he's been one of the most financially sound president for a long time. Nobody it would seem liked president Bush much over here, though I have read his autobiography and found it a great read, giving a much fuller understanding of the why and what for behind his decision making. The only other Republican I can think of by name is Sarah Palin and other than thinking she's quite attractive I don't really know what she stands for. We're in the count down to a general election in the UK, and most people are very disillusioned with the two main political parties, there has been an upswing in the popularity of smaller parties of which I'm thinking of voting for one of them. Would you say that was true in the US? Are Americans getting disillusioned with the main parties? Are there any alternatives to those parties, because if there are we never get to hear about them over here in the UK!
  3. But then I also like to eat mine cold with a thick coating of butter, the toast is crisp and crunch with the burned taste mixed with the thick butter... Now I'm hungry!
  4. What utter rubbish! Its a book about BDSM, its going to have spanking, and controlling etc as that is what its all about! And why baby oil? Really, you need to ask? The books were originally fan fiction based on Twilight but updated to a more adult theme, its obviously not been done to a good standard as it would seem they've just changed the names and characters ages! But if you think its all a cover for some pedo fantasy story I think you're reading far too much into it!
  5. Why all the hate for burnt toast, its the only way to eat toast!
  6. At this point in time my wife wouldn't have anything to do with the church as she thinks its a cult that brainwashes people into subservience. The fact of the matter is I don't have home teachers because they wouldn't be able to come to my home, I can't do a calling that would involve me spending any amount of time away from home, getting to church on a Sunday can often be a nightmare. Luckily I have a fantastic Bishop who is working with me to try and resolve issues but since she won't talk about the church or have contact with anyone from the church its a struggle. That however doesn't quench my desire to serve the Lord in some capacity and I have the hope that some time in the future I can do even a small work that would be pleasing to the Lord! I love my wife and she does love me but my return to the church has thrown a spanner into the relationship that is proving hard to overcome, I hope and pray that she at least soften her heart to the church and maybe in the future come to see how much good there is in the church and choose to turn to the Lord and become a member. But until that time, prayer and little steps are par for the course!
  7. This was one of those things we talked a lot about in bible college, are you pre or post tribulation millennialism, I would always say I was pan millennialist because it will all pan out in the end!
  8. When I was at bible college we would have heated discussions about the rapture and I came up with an ingenious reason why it hadn't happened yet, embarrassment! God hadn't caused the rapture to happen yet to save embarrassing those who are raptured while on the loo! I mean how embarrassed would you be if one minute your on the throne and in a blink of an eye your in the presence of God! I know, tongue in cheek bit did bring a laugh and lightened the debate! It was about the same time that the Left Behind books came out that I was in bible college and I remember a lot of people devoured them, often reading them in one sitting! I must admit they had me hooked! Don't know where I stand theologically now about what they say about the end times, but it is a fascinating part of scripture to look into!
  9. Which one, the original or the Nicholas Cage one? The original is far better story wise and covers more than the first chapter or so that the new one does.
  10. Thanks for the replies, I was almost giving up on the idea that I could serve but you've given me new hope! And who knows, the wife might in the future become a member and we could serve together!
  11. I've been thinking a lot lately about missions and serving a mission as an mature missionary. I never took the opportunity to serve a mission when I first joined the Church (think I was 19/20 when I joined in 1987!). I know that you can serve a mission when your older and married couples often serve them. Now here is my predicament, my wife isn't a member so would that mean that I couldn't in the future serve a mission or can I as an older married person still serve? What would be the age that older missionaries are able to be called from, is it after retirement or can you do it before then?
  12. Aren't they a bit floppy to eat like cookies?
  13. I've always wanted to try pancakes with bacon but never actually got round to it! Might give it a whirl tomorrow
  14. Love the Drizzt books I've read, but didn't know that there was 30! I really liked the Dragonlance books, think I've read most of them, Raistilin is my favourite character in those books! My favourite fantasy author though has to be Feist, I don't know how many times I've read through the Riftwar books!
  15. I must admit I have read an exert from one of the books, don't know which one. It was so incoherent I thought if this is what the rest of the books are like how did it get so popular? The wife has of course read all three and seen the movie and she thinks they're great
  16. What, there are articles in Playboy!!! Thought it was all nekkid ladies and pin ups! (Yes I've never looked at a copy of Playboy!)
  17. I don't know what the full video is like as my head exploded after about 30 seconds and had to turn it off! But I hope you all enjoy... Or maybe not!
  18. Funnily enough that got to 6th in the Billboard hot 100 apparently! We Brits having more taste only allowed it to get to 17 in our charts!
  19. Just checked a bit more and it would seem your correct! And thanks for all the work you've put in on the Ask Gramps, its a great resource for people like me who have non member partners! Oh and shouldn't it be Ask Granny!
  20. Found this but don't know if it directly answers your question or not! http://askgramps.org/3359/can-a-woman-be-sealed-to-more-than-one-man
  21. Thanks for that! We can all get a bit hot under the collar when we discuss something that we hold dear to us. Personally I don't often take things to heart or get upset over what people post in some discussion on an internet forum, though I will to my detriment take an argument to far some times. This happened in the gun thread where I let my own personal feelings and cultural view take precedent over what is in the US a completely lawful thing to do, own a gun. I never intended to portray anyone as being morally wrong, or less righteous because they choose to exercise their legal right to own a firearm. I apologise if that is the impression that I gave and hope that we as a group can move beyond any offence we may have felt we have had from that particular thread. LDG
  22. This is being done about 10 minutes drive away from where I live at the Centre for Life! http://www.life.org.uk/
  23. Done and dusted! Funny how the person cooking the pancakes gets the last one, literally as the kids and wife scoff the lot!
  24. Maybe because in law in the UK I can restrict the outcome of what techniques I use to fit with reasonable force, where as a gun has one probable outcome and that is death which would be viewed as unreasonable force. I guess I won't ever get your gun culture either.
