Thanks for the advice! There is a group from my ward going so I will be with people I know who have been to the Temple loads! When the Bishop mentioned that there was a trip going on that date and asked if I wanted to go he didn't mention anything about a course to do first, found the manuals this afternoon on my tablet so going to read through them over the coming week and put some questions together. Think some emails are going to be passing between my home teacher and me over the coming days! Also got my Patriarchal blessing recommend form thing today, just have to arrange for a time to go visit the Patriarch! Exciting times ahead for me!!

Godzilla (well I'm just on my way to watch it now!)

If you think that then you don't know much about Israel. Christians are treated only slightly better than Muslims in Israel.

Do you give a "why" when declining an invitation?
Latter Days Guy replied to Bini's topic in General Discussion
Oh, just had another thought as well! The engagement parties in the UK aren't usually near the actual engagement date either! Ours was about six months after we got engaged!! Plus if your family and your invited then it's generally accepted that you will attend, other than being on your death bed/ in another country at the time you go. In fact we had family travel from all over the UK to attend. -

It's a lot different in the UK, engagement parties are a big thing. Its kinda like where the engagement is officially announced to the extended family and friends and presents are expected! Plus the wedding isn't usually close to the engagement either, my wife and I were engaged for 4 years before we got married! -
Simply awesome!

Captain America The Winter Soldier. Very enjoyable movie with some great action sequences. Though I cannot work out who the characters are in the credit scene are!

What do people think of The Book of Mormon?
Latter Days Guy replied to Meerkatarmy's topic in General Discussion
Godspell is ace! I thought the original was a bit shallow with Jesus made up to look like a clown so never really wanted to watch it. Then a few years back, the wife and I went to see a new stage production and it blew us both away! So much so we bought tickets to see the show again a few days later and took my wife's parents to see it! -
LDS Podcasts app for your enjoyment! There website is HERE!

Why would you compare it with JCSS? JCSS is a pretty good musical interpretation of the last few days of Jesus Life. Seen it a few times on stage and its always been excellent. The 70's movie is a bit dated but still good and there is also a DVD of a more up to date production which is good as well. -
I liked the Mormon potluck podcast but it kinda fizzled out. Got an LDS podcast app on my tablet that links to a load of LDS themed podcasts but not got round to listening to many of them. I do like the conversations podcasts from the Mormon channel as well.

Congratulations to you both!! -
That's all I can do, love her and be the best example of a LDS I can be. That and pray that she see's beyond her preconceived idea's about the church. I was so thrilled to be at church this morning, it was just so uplifting, especially when the bishop saw me for the first time and just broke out in a big grin and said that his prayers had been answered! (he'd been praying for me to come back to church for a while).
-
Today was the best day, I went to church without any arguments from my wife, she didn't object or do anything to stop me going. Today was an answer to my prayers, its a start which I hope will lead her to want to find out more about the church and my beliefs.

I know where Birkenhead is but am from a more northern area of England, in fact if I got much further north I would be a jock!

April and October for me. April because of General conference and October because that's the month I was born in and general conference!

I see that the article has hit the news sites.

I've done as the church has directed, I've made the decision, after taking the matter in prayer to the Lord about how I should pay my tithes. I feel that I have received confirmation of that from the Lord. I also believe that you pay tithes on your income, or where do you think I get the funds to pay my tithe in the first place? I'm doing as the church prescribes and which you state above that the church leaves it up to the individual to define what that income is. Have I said you must define your income in a specific way like you are trying to do? No I have shared how I define income after seeking guidance as directed by the church from the Lord. No where have I said this is the way that everyone should pay their tithes, as that is a matter between the individual and the Lord. No where have I said, nor do I believe that the church is in apostasy over this or any other issue. I will leave you with this from the Fairs WIKI: Members of the Church covenant to pay tithing—the word comes from "tithe," meaning "a tenth." This has naturally led to the question, "A tenth of what? Gross income? Net income? Pre-tax? Post-tax?" Quite simply, the method is left up to the individual. The First Presidency issued the following statement in 1970, which is repeated the current (2006) Church Handbook of Instructions: The simplest statement we know of is the statement of the Lord himself, namely, that the members of the Church should pay 'one-tenth of all their interest annually,' which is understood to mean income. No one is justified in making any other statement than this.[1] (emphasis added) Each member is to prayerfully decide how to interpret this statement. No member is ever to be told how to calculate their tithing. No member is authorized to tell another how to pay tithing. Each year, members of the Church meet with their bishop and declare their tithing status—they either indicate that they are full tithe payers, or not. No questions are asked about the means whereby this is determined—such matters are between the member and the Lord. Anyone who claims otherwise bears the burden of proof, and should be required to produce a statement which differs from the First Presidency's statement of 1970.
-
So if I do as the first presidency says and take what I believe I owe the Lord in tithes to him and get confirmation of that then I'm giving people false doctrine? Again I point you in the direction of what the first presidency has said: For your guidance in this matter, please be advised that we have uniformly replied that the simplest statement we know of is that statement of the Lord himself that the members of the Church should pay one-tenth of all their interest annually, which is understood to mean income. No one is justified in making any other statement than this. We feel that every member of the Church should be entitled to make his own decision as to what he thinks he owes the Lord, and to make payment accordingly. I have taken what I do to the Lord in prayer and asked for his guidance on the matter. I've done as the first presidency has advocated, I feel that the Lord has confirmed that I have made the right choice in how I contribute to the building of the kingdom.

In what way am I not contributing? And how is it crazy? Because I don't agree with what you say is correct therefore I'm holding a crazy opinion. How is that complying with the statement of the church? Seems like you judging where you have no right to.
