I'm with Vort here, your child isn't your property, and his penis isn't either. Unless there is a medical reason for it, leave it alone. In the UK circumcision isn't routinely carried out on infant boys, other than those of Jewish or Islamic faith. We certainly don't have any epidemic of penis related diseases here! As for the argument that its better to get it done as an infant to save them pain in later life, utter rubbish! I was circumcised two years ago due to having a tightening of the foreskin. Other than some mild discomfort for a few hours after the initial pain relief wore off I was fine. If I had the choice of being with or without it I would certainly be in the with camp, it certainly has had detrimental effect on my sex life as the wife thinks it looks weird and the increase in sensitivity is just bad!

On March 19, 1970, the First Presidency sent a letter to presidents of stakes and missions, bishops of wards, and presidents of branches in answer to the question, What is a proper tithe? For your guidance in this matter, please be advised that we have uniformly replied that the simplest statement we know of is that statement of the Lord himself that the members of the Church should pay one-tenth of all their interest annually, which is understood to mean income. No one is justified in making any other statement than this. We feel that every member of the Church should be entitled to make his own decision as to what he thinks he owes the Lord, and to make payment accordingly. We pay 10% on our interest annually, the statement then clarifies that this means income. Does this mean we pay on our whole wage or our increase in wage, or after we have met our obligations for the needs of our families it does not say. Whether you pay 10% on gross or net, or 10% on what you have left after you have paid out all your family expenses, it is between you and the Lord. Decide upon what you think you owe the Lord, take it to him in prayer and if you receive confirmation pay that. At the end of the day it is between you and the Lord and no one can say otherwise.

So nothing to do with this then?

From my reading of the accounts the first 1832 account can be taken as one or two personages, with an emphasis on the one who can forgive sins, Jesus Christ. The other three say that there were two personages in each of the accounts. Which one mentions only a pillar of fire? If you mean the 1835 account then that goes on to mention one then another personage appearing in the pillar of fire.

I don't take any notice of reviews, mind I find if a movie gets terrible reviews I tend to really like them!

Saw the Robocop remake yesterday. Was different but followed the original in the good cop blown away by the bad guys and comes back to kick butt story way. Enjoyed it a lot!

My thoughts exactly! Again, I completely agree! I begin to wonder what sort of faith people have if something like this could rock it! Certainly not built on the strong foundations of the restored Gospel that is for sure!

The First Vision Accounts After reading in another thread that there was some controversy over the first vision and an article published on LDS.org about the first vision I thought I would have a read through the article and the linked accounts of the first vision. After first being a little surprised by there being four versions of the first vision recorded by the Prophet Joseph I began to read through them one by one, earliest to latest. From my reading of the various accounts I was hard pressed to see any controversy at all. Other than there being some ambiguity over how many personages mentioned in the first account, they all to me basically say the same things. I can see for myself that they vary in wording in places but then no one recounts events in the exact same way or to different audiences the same way, I also see that they place emphasis on different things in each of the accounts which again I see as it being used to present to different audiences. For me the accounts brought more positives than negatives in that my faith was built up by the accounts and not diminished. I was wondering what others thoughts on the article and the accounts were? The first vision is such a pivotal moment in church history, looking at the pictures and reading the reproduced accounts from those documents really sent a shiver down my spine as I thought about how the hands that wrote those words had had a personal encounter with Heavenly Father and the saviour Jesus Christ, or in the case of those who scribed had walked and talked with the first Prophet of the restoration.

Ok, having read the article on the first vision and then the various linked to versions of the vision, I'm at a loss to see how the Bishop was having problems or loss of faith? Was it that particular article that led to the person loosing faith or one of the others?
-
Thanks LM, that's great!!
-
That is what I was asking for!! Links to the articles so I could check them out as I couldn't remember what they were about other than one being about the first vision and a mention of a conference talk I think by President Uchtdorf.

So what was actually deleted? From what I remember of my quick reading it said that some new articles had been placed on LDS.org, one being about the first vision I believe. That some Australian bishop was having problems because of these articles. If the articles are on LDS.org how could they be anti?
-
Could someone PM me the link or is that against the rules as well?
-
I thought the links lead to articles on LDS.org?
-
Oh dear, Game of Thrones is probably my favourite programme on TV for the last few years
-
Had a quick glance at the forum at work a couple of hours ago and saw a thread about some bishop from Australia and how he was having problems with some articles on lds.org. Thought I will check that out when I get home and now cannot find it! Has this been deleted? Has anyone got the link to the article?

I've just bought myself a cheap android tablet (acer iconia b1) purely for church, has my scriptures and manuals on, podcast apps, and even a few LDS games! Still going to use my paper based scriptures but it does make things a lot easier when you can have all your reference material in one handy little device to work alongside your scriptures!

Sums up the movie pretty well for a one liner, don't get why that would make you not watch any movies with him in though.
-
Why, what's wrong with Jamie Foxx?
-
I've just got a large size quad, but I also use my kindle fire HD and the Gospel Library app to access the manuals for study etc. If I'm just reading my scriptures then its the kindle every time :)

So do I, got the novel a few weeks back, must read it!

When I first joined the church many moons ago there was a family who used to play guitar in sacrament meeting almost every week. But since returning from my period of inactivity I've not seen one played. Some elders played but not in sacrament meeting.

Well the word of wisdom says we should eat meat sparingly and that its pleasing to the Lord to abstain from meat totally. 12 Yea, flesh also of beasts and of the fowls of the air, I, the Lord, have ordained for the use of man with thanksgiving; nevertheless they are to be used sparingly; 13 And it is pleasing unto me that they should not be used, only in times of winter, or of cold, or famine.
