Without getting into the nitty gritty of the revelation. The point is, we have a revelation regarding how to keep our bodies healthy and clean. Yet my wifes observation as well as many others is that Members of the LDS church aren't necessarily the healthiest group going around. Does anyone have an opinion on why this may be?

Theres this one guy i knew lived a couple of thousand years ago. Pretty sure he fits the description above. The rest of us, well, we just try our best.

I only mentioned Caffeine because in the my old missionary days i remember it being listed on my flip chart.

So my wife recently attended a TOFW conference here in Sydney where thousands of Mormon women get together to be uplifted and inspired about life. She loved it, so did many others, however there was also a Jehovahs Witness conference on at the same time in the same venue, different hall. I asked her if they combined conferences? She laughed and said i dont think so. Then made the following observation how the Women JW's in general were well dressed and quite slender. This is the part as a male where you just shut up and listen. She noted that in stark contrast The LDS women were carrying extra pounds compared to the JW women and we weren't talking about airplane luggage here. Of course this was a general observation but it seemed if both conferences packed a scrum(rugby term) the LDS women would have run straight over the JW's. I simply listened(women and weight, thats a no go zone for me) and at the end pondered a little on the WOW. Every 2 years a member of the Bishopric ask me. Are you keeping the word of wisdom? Generally I ignore the left over Hungry Jacks bag sitting in my car, the sugar fest i indulged in after the last ward baptism, the chocolate thats become wedged in my keyboard, the 30 pounds i have acquired since my mission, and my never ending staple diet of biscuits, snacks, fizzy drinks with the odd fruit thrown in to make me feel like i eat somewhat healthy. Oh sorry what was the question? Do you keep the Word of Wisdom? Quick mental check, (Caffiene, Tea, drugs, alcohol) all good. Yes, of course.

Never, ever, ever do business with someone in your ward.
Drpepper replied to a topic in General Discussion
I have been in business for 15 years for myself and over that time have only had 2 people that never paid me. Both were members... I also did a shoot for our area presidency once in which i only charged $500 which only just covered my cost for the equipment I hired. They sent me a cheque for $250. Needless to say my personal experience with members and the church hasn't been great when it comes to business. The issue for me isn't so much about the money. Its the resentment and feeling of being used that can eat away if you let it. Personally now i just don't like doing business with members as a rule, i don't like members approaching my wife on Sundays for tupperware parties, i don't like the various pyramid schemes and cancer healing juices that trend through the church every so often. Sadly there is a looooong list of members who have been burnt, fried and left out to dry by bad schemes, shonky work, investments that have devoured savings plans and quick rich agendas by other members. Thats just my opinion, and it works for me. Its also the reason why you will never see me start a thread like this one. -
No The bike is just a peewee 50 nothing dangerous and crashing at the speeds we were going would have resulted in a few band aids not much more. It was the sabbath breaking that was the main issue. My daughter actually loves being on the bike. Gretchen if noise chases away the spirit then most of our youth classes on Sunday would have suffered.

We just moved to a new property. Sunday morning i grabbed my 3 year old daughter and threw her on the front of a motor bike to go around a look at some of the property. I remember thinking as we explored things together that this was the best. She was laughing, and i was appreciating the time together. We checked out some hills, the creek and other things. After that we got ready for afternoon church and i arrived home just before sunset after counting tithing and various other administrative duties. It was arriving home that night, that my wife ambushed me about taking out the motor bike on the sabbath. I didn't think to much of it at the time, it merely just seemed like the transport to get me spending some time with my daughter. Needless to say insistent that i had broken the sabbath day and my refusal to see it that way, we both slept on the farthest sides of the bed that night. This morning guns still loaded, Im still wondering if i did something wrong. Im not looking for supporters just a fresh perspective.

Its one of my personal 10 Commandments not to do business with members. I have been burnt on several occasions and it makes it very difficult sitting across them in an Endowment Room. -
Male point of view its been suggested to just serve him but i would be careful with this. Men need time to process. To him this news would be like being side swiped by a Truck. He probably had no idea this would ever happen to him in his life. This is a lot for a male to take in at once. He will be feeling like he has failed himself, that he wan't good enough as a husband especially intimately. Men don't tend to role everything up into one. He will try to dissect the whole situation piece by piece and see where he has failed. Women tend to talk these situations out (hence the reason why you started this thread) Men tend to walk through the situation in there own mind. If he is distant its because he will need space. If you try to serve him to much, he will want his space back. To you this will seem like rejection to a Man this just means give me time to process. Unfortunately there is no quick path back for trust in a relationship. If you try to force conversation with a Man this could do more damage than good, unfortunately many women don't understand this. You could leave him little notes expressing your love to him. This is a good way of expressing yourself and giving hi his own time. Men tend to want to fix things but a broken relationship is hard for a Man to navigate in his own mind. Give him time...

I Don't Envy Bishoprics. Or Gospel Doctrine Teachers.
Drpepper replied to MorningStar's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
Ouchhh, ok let me rephrase it. It would be nice, in my humble, and perhaps uneducated opinion if, women, could possibly hold the priesthood equally as men do, but if not thats ok as i don't hinge my testimony on these things. -

I believe women should have the priesthood. Does that make me an apostate? -

"Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God. For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven." Matt 22.30 In the resurrection there will be no marrying nor giving in marriage; for all questions of marital status must be settled before that time, under the authority of the Holy Priesthood, which holds the power to seal in marriage for both time and eternity. Talmage Jesus the Christ -
The ward should be involved on assisting those who are serving. We had a couple who were serving and running out of funds. The issue was brought up in high priests and resolved 5 min later.

Everyone will see God no matter what kingdom to be judged. Maybe you can have a chat with him about your marriage prospects their if you don't feel inclined to be married here. Perhaps they will have speed dating up there. On a side note I hope we don't all have to wear glowing white gowns you see depicted on the videos and pictures. I would be talking to God about splashing a little color around or hiring an interior designer. :) -
According to an article on desert news each member of the first presidency will have his own Facebook account. It does say that someone will be looking after it. But how funny would it be if President Monson whips out his iPhone next General Conference and up dates his status :) LDS First Presidency members launch Google+ pages, Facebook in the future | Deseret News

Those who live in the celestial kingdom live with God and one does not need to be married to reside here. -
