  1. PC... I'm 20 and it's frustrating me too. Along with people's reactions in general. Case in point, the Cheerios commercial with the "mixed" family (that kid was cute, she had a typical young kid reaction to finding out Cheerios "help the heart") People are just so easily offended these days. :sigh:
  2. I made the mistake of checking the news this morning. I saw an article that had more holes that swiss cheese. The first part was saying that because the NSA's been watching us, they've thwarted about 50 terrorist attacks. Okay great, how'd they do it? Not explained, instead, they go on to talk about (I kid you not) international relations, (jumbled, of course) and Ummm... not proper German grammer. "Ich bin Berliner" is the gramatically correct way to say it. Surely a freaking President would want to not sound like an idiot in front of people.Where was I going with all this origionally? Oh yeah, the "thwarted attacks"...
  3. I "borrowed" this picture. I do not know how to correct the spelling. you should see MY spelling sometime...
  4. I've read some of her books, the Bishop/Special Crimes Unit series. I would not exactly classify them as "clean". However, I have not read her other books, so it could be just that series.
  5. I'd sit down with him and talk. Ask him why he wants the surgery. Ask him if he understands what it means in the first place, and if he is aware of what will follow (things like bra shopping --yes, I did just say that.) Listen to him. It could be that his "friends" are taking advantage of him (and if he went through $4,000 in the first two months of being on his own, it's a safe bet they are) and they want him to be a girl for some crazy reason I know not, and do not wish to try to figure out. Oh, and good luck, hugs, and chocolate.
  6. Keeping your children safe is your first priority. Do whatever it takes to keep them safe. If that involves leaving your husband, than so be it. The Church is all about family's, and raising children in a good way. If your husband is a threat to them, then any good member will see you a a mother who is trying to do the right thing, given hard circumstances.
  7. But.... Don't you have a Tardis on every corner? lol
  8. Thank you Windseeker. PC, you might want to see this.
  9. Handed down by great-great-grandfather??? (I don't think revolvers are made much anymore... I thought it was mostly pistols... could anyone verify?)
  10. Some Americans would have run. However, I think it is safe to say that no matter where a violent scene takes place, there will always be some who run. It has nothing to do with one's nationality. Thank you LM. I know several Muslims, and their beliefs are centered around peace, not violence. I know that because many terrorists say they are Muslim many people think that Muslims are crazy. But the truth is, there's crazy people in every religion.I know this may come off as sounding rant-ish, but I can't stand it when people judge harshly because of one's religion. Perhaps it has something to do with having Jewish ancestry, but when I hear about people slamming religions (in general, I'm not suggesting there's any here), I want to tell them all to grow up. Rant over.
  11. The books are amazing, just so y'all know (I've read and reread them...)
  12. Yes, it is true that autism and Asperger's are different conditions, although they have very strong similarity. It is also true that autism is a spectrum disorder, meaning that you could have a kid with a mild, "high functioning" diagnosis, and another with a severe, "low functioning" diagnosis. For the most part, having a disability (dyslexia, for example) is not an excuse for not trying. I just wanted to point out that sometimes it just isn't possible to teach them.
  13. Lakumi, you have no idea. while in high school, I saw girls wearing shorts so short, half their tush was hanging out. What does the dress code say about stuff like that? We have a dress code? Are you sure about that? :deep breath: going back to the technology thing (less to rant about)
  14. Gwen, forgive me for being obnoxious, but I would like to point out that some people with autism have such low mental comprehension that they can't read, or if they can, can't ever get past little kids books. However, when a person has a learning disability that severe, they are generally in a "self contained" class, and are not likely to be found in Mr. Polynomial's Algebra I class.
  15. So, if mom and/or dad get sick and have to go to the hospital (and deal with medical bills), who's going to give you the money to buy your gizmogadget? "Oh, I don't worry about stuff like that, my credit card does it all for me." dies of horror Kids these days! Something I find interesting, I went to a job fair a while back with my roommate, and a lot of people older than me where there wearing T-shirts and jeans, or tank-tops and shorts, or even pajama bottoms. I was wearing a skirt and blouse. I'm 20. This is just... (my mother used to tell me if I couldn't say anything nice, to not say anything. I think that is for the best!)
  16. What makes me mad is that CPS is major-schizo-bipolar; they get nasty over nothing, and look away when it is CRAZY SUPER OBVIOUS that the child is ACTUALLY being abused.
  17. Working link. (links can be very temperamental) In his defense, those chips do look good...
  18. I think we should all chip in and buy her a clue. Crime doesn't pay.
  19. To the OP, As someone who has been abused (from a teacher, ironically), I've got to say this, people (in general) do not like the world to know of their problems. That is one of the reasons why women will take a beating from their husband and not tell anyone. Another thing is, you said he emotionally abuses his wife. Well, often women who have been abused (in any way) feel that they somehow deserve what happened. So I'm willing to bet that you telling the stake presidency or bishopric may not only save your son and other children, but his wife as well.
  20. Hugs to you all. Can you get his name on the temple prayer roll? And ask your bishop and home teachers to pray for him?
  21. I've only seen a few episodes, but Moonlight was a good one. I think you can find it on Netflicks or Hulu.
  22. Martain, they are wonderful books! a friend recommended them to me, and although I have only read the first one, I can tell they'll be a big spiritual boost. We can defeat the advisory, for we have fought him before... Apple, Oh read the books, what can I say more?
  23. Just out of curiosity, what would you do/recommend in those circumstances? I ask because I hope to serve a mission soon.
  24. So they want "true" books... I say give it to them! My Father, Maker of the Trees: How I Survived the Rwandan Genocide by: Tracey D. Lawrence Why Nations Fail: The Origins of Power, Prosperity, and Poverty by: Daron Acemoglu The Addiction of Mary Todd Lincoln by:Anne E. Beidler
