  1. A distorted interpretation of the scriptures could lead to the conclusion that there is divine precedent for the gardener's actions. (New Testament | Matthew 21:19) 19 And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away. (Old Testament | Genesis 3:17) 7 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; (Old Testament | Genesis 5:29) 29 And he called his name Noah, saying, This same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the LORD hath cursed.
  2. Hello Catlick, its a pleasant surprise to see you back here again, I had occasionally wondered about you. I see you asked your question back on August 6, but I mainly look in the gospel questions forum and don't often look in the forum where you posted your question so I didn't realise you were back until just the other day. I'm not sure if you remember me; you and I exchanged a few messages a few years ago. I recall I spoke with you somewhat boldly about coffee I think? Or maybe it was about being indecisive, I'm not quite sure.

Two years and still investigating? hmmm. I'm not making and judgements here, everybody works at their own pace, and I'm pretty good at procrastinating and being slothful and its definitely not as easy when you are doing it on your own without your partner. Let me remind you of 1 Kings 18:8

    (Old Testament | 1 Kings 18:21)
21  And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions?  if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him.  And the people answered him not a word.
I encourage you to reflect on this verse and hope that you will be kind enough to share your reflections.

Once more, its nice to see you again

Thank you for your message! I haven't logged on to this forum in weeks (kids started a new school year--so busy!). I so appreciate your advice--and yes, 2 years is a long time to be stuck. I do remember our conversations about coffee--and I still struggle with that, as I love coffee. Even if I could just switch to decaf--but alas, not an option. I will highlight the 1 Kings scripture and ponder it. It speaks directly to my indecision and my mulish stance at this point. I really do need to act on what God has whispered to me. Thank you so very much.

  3. Thanks MrShorty, that's interesting and helpful
  4. I know He has had a lot of trials, but in the only court room experience He has had, He was the defendant, not the advocate. And as for His fee of a broken heart and a contrite spirit,,,,,,I think it would be much easier to just pay cash,
  5. I'm planning on hiring JAG when the time comes. if he's as good as I think he is, I'll be able to do what I like in this life, and then just leave it to my lawyer to sort out on judgement day.
  6. What I’ve read so far seems to suggest that always calling men to be Sunday School Presidents seems to be more a result of history and tradition rather than anything to do with the Priesthood. So if the church decided to respond to those who claim that women in the church have an inferior position and are denied any real leadership role (and we know how false that claim is) by calling women as Sunday School Presidents, would that be a violation of any fundamental doctrine, or just a variation to a historical practice?
  7. I was wondering if there is any reason why a woman can't be called as a Sunday School President. It seems as though a Sunday School President would require no more than the type of keys and authority already held and exercised by a Primary President or a YW President. Is there anything distinctly different about the role of Sunday School President, as compared to a Primary or YW President, that means that the role can only be performed by a Priesthood holder?
  8. The bar was in Texas. I think he was visiting godless and giving him quality assurance advice on the various products being sold. Remember, this is the same guy that offers Jack Daniels to new missionaries :)
  9. You're really giving me a lot of work to do Once I've solved the Kennedy killing, the moon landing is next on my list. If Mirkwood was doing his job properly, I wouldn't have to be doing any of this.
  10. That's true. I was there to follow up on investigations resulting from your admission last week that you and Anatess were at the Kennedy assassination.
  11. Hey, thats not fair! Why does unixknight get all the fun? I want my turn! Its been more than a week since I cracked anyone's knees
  12. Perhaps you could add delivering a banana custard pie to Australia to the top of your bucket list. You could combine it with your goal of skydiving.
  13. With filling please - banana custard
  14. I congratulate you on your careful and diligent study of church doctrines and resources and wish you all the best. Perhaps you can take the time between now and January to start preparing your parents for your baptism by seeking to engage them in conversations on religious subjects, and try to get an idea of why they feel the way they do about religion. These conversations would then be an ideal opportunity for you to tell your parents how you feel about religion and how you intend to act on your feelings and beliefs.
  15. Pam, I'm happy to help you with your goals. I'll gladly push you out of the plane :) Zil, I can make you a better offer Forget the gator, he doesn't care for you enough. And who wants an old swamp gator anyway? I achieved this one when I was 5,,,,,,,,,,,,,, or maybe 4. It took about two minutes. :) SilentOne we need to get together. One of the things on my list is to eat a perfect pie crust.
  16. I hope you didn't mention anything about polygamy as an example in following the prophet? :)
  17. Yes, I remember seeing you hiding out near the bookstore, in your alligator skin boot, with a suspicious bulge under your jacket and a bottle of Jack Daniels in your back pocket. I thought you looked kind of suspicious and I could tell just by looking that you were from Florida. I didn't realise that you were in cahoots with anatess that early, but now, thanks to your admission, another piece of the puzzle falls into place.
  18. Sounds a bit like some sort of Florida conspiracy to me.
  19. (New Testament | 1 Corinthians 10:27) 27 If any of them that believe not bid you to a feast, and ye be disposed to go; whatsoever is set before you, eat, asking no question for conscience sake.
  20. Thank you Zil, it looks like this answers my questions pretty well. Much appreciated.
  21. This got a mention on ABC Radio National in Australia last Friday.
  22. Ok, there seems to be a theme amongst many of the responses so far, saying something like whatever kingdom we end up in in the next life, it will be a good place for us to be and we will be happy there so no one will want to commit eternal suicide, even if they could. So lets change the scenario a little. There are many who were once in this life who, by their own hand, and following a conscious well thought out decision, have gladly chosen death over life. I can well imagine some of them entering the next life and their first thoughts being something like “darn, I thought I ended all this, and now here I am, alive again, despite my best efforts. I better try again.” Will they again be able to choose death (as in the permanent discontinuation of life and consciousness) over life, and be able to implement that decision? If they are not able to do so, is that a reduction in their ability to choose? Are they condemned to live out an eternity that they might not want? That doesn’t sound like a position of fun and happiness for them.
  23. NightSG, you are clearly being deficient in your scripture study, or maybe you are just being a little forgetful of what you already know. Remember Alma 40:23? The soul shall be restored to the body, and the body to the soul; yea, and every limb and joint shall be restored to its body; yea, even a hair of the head shall not be lost; but all things shall be restored to their proper and perfect frame. Now what Alma didn't write, because he got distracted when his wife asked him to take out the trash, is that pigs, when in their proper and perfect frame, actually find happiness in being dismantled, smoked and friend, because that fulfills the measure of their creation. Its true that in their mortal condition, most pigs find this process of dismemberment and being fried to be rather unpleasant, although none of them have actually told me that, but in the resurrection, we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. (1 Corinthians 15:51-52) Now my son, I do not say that all pigs will be resurrected, but behold, I give it as my opinion that as part of the resurrection process, those pigs that will be resurrected will be changed such that they will find joy, happiness and fulfillment in being dismembered and fried.
  24. Its still a place where progress is damned, there is no hope for improvement, and where there will be no access to loved ones in higher kingdoms. That might sound like the happiest and most glorious place for some, but its not hard to imagine that there might be others who are not happy with those conditions and would prefer to remove themselves from such conditions by any way that they can. Will they have that choice or will their agency on that matter be denied?
  25. All true, but,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,there is also the possibility that the vision of the redemption of the dead was only one part of what God was impressing on him. There might have been much more than this. But we're not going to know either way.
