  1. In addition to Jacob 5, here's another verse that has a vague reference to plant based food production. Some scriptorian or theologian might interpret it to mean that God is not in favour of GMOs (Pearl of Great Price | Abraham 4:12) And the Gods organized the earth to bring forth grass from its own seed, and the herb to bring forth herb from its own seed, yielding seed after his kind; and the earth to bring forth the tree from its own seed, yielding fruit, whose seed could only bring forth the same in itself, after his kind; and the Gods saw that they were obeyed. My own view is that probably the good GMOs are good for you and the bad ones are not (How profound is that!). And how to tell the good ones from the bad ones? By their fruits ye shall know them.
  2. Here is my favourite, non-serious scriptural description of lawyers: (New Testament | 1 Timothy 6:5) 5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.
  3. Once again, PC plunges courageously into the depths of the unknown in pursuit of knowledge and understanding. More power to you! What did you think of the talk?
  4. So PC, how often do you listen to the talks given during the Priesthood session of LDS General Conference?
  5. I listened to the Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon sessions live but I wasn't planning on listening to the Priesthood session until it is broadcast in my stake next Sunday. Now I'm just going to have to listen to it tonight. This is going to be really interesting, knowing that I have some sort of slight connection with someone who has been talked about in General Conference.
  6. Sticky, if you haven't yet done so, I strongly recommend that you listen to Elder Carl B Cooks talk given during the Sunday afternoon session of General Conference. His talk is quite relevant to your post and when properly listened to, should provide you with some valuable guidance and counsel.
  7. In the top end of northern Australia, its the crocodiles/alligators that sometimes do the killing And then sometimes they end up getting shot at other times they just get caught and relocated.
  8. Thanks for this Spamlds its a great post but I dare to disagree with Zil - its too short! You left me hanging. Please finish it off by telling us how the Lord introduced you to the Book of Mormon and the Church and how to received an answer regarding the veracity of Joseph Smith's testimony and of the divinity of the Book of Mormon.
  9. 1. Have faith in the inspiration that led to you being given this opportunity to serve. 2. Always believe that you are doing good and having some impact 3. Lower your expectations so that they are more in line with the teachability of your students as opposed to what might happen in other classes or with other teaching experiences you have had with different students 4. Rejoice that you are helping precious children learn one important principle each week. How many members of the Gospel Doctrine class learn even one principle every month? 5. Sometimes, you might need to just focus on the one. 6. Perhaps get some advice from a professional teacher who works full time teaching autistic children. Many teachers are glad to share their wisdom and knowledge with other teachers. 7. Ask backroads or classylady, both of whom are members of this forum. One of them, I can't remember which, has lots of teaching experience. 8. Ask the parents for advice, and get them more involved in your classes 9. Try to strengthen your out-of-class relationship with your students so that they don't just see you as their teacher 10. Talk to the Primary Presidency about the possibility of having a substitute teacher once a month so that you can take an occasional break
  10. Nah, I think I'll just build my own. With funding crowd-sourced from the members of mormonhub.com. That way I get to choose the location and design.
  11. Thanks Ed, this has given me food for thought and added to my understanding. If I only prayed for those things which the Lord indicated, I suspect my prayers would be less frequent and shorter. But probably more effective.
  12. Lol, I know, but I couldn't resist. (And I was hoping.....) ps How do you quote speechlessness if they haven't said anything?
  13. Zil is speechless! At last
  14. Congratulations to Elder Mirkwood and his parents. Well, at least to his mother You all have exciting and growing times ahead of you. No doubt, if he had been even more worthy than he already is, he would have been called to serve in the Philippines. How did you celebrate, and how did the opening of the letter happen? My son says that when he receives his mission call, maybe in the first half of next year, he want to open it on the stand during Sacrament meeting. ps Does the Jacksonville mission include that part of Florida where they have lots of swamps and mirky woods?
  15. Where we used to live it was a 12 hour trip to the temple. The monthly stake temple trips involved getting on the bus at 6:00 pm Friday, travelling 12 hours, arriving at 6:00 am Saturday, spending 6 hours in the temple, getting back on the bus at 12:00 pm Saturday afternoon and arriving back at the chapel at midnight Saturday night. When we moved to where we live now we rejoiced that the temple was only 3 hours away. We stopped rejoicing about a year later when the church announced that they were building a temple only 20 minutes from where we used to live.
  16. (Book of Mormon | 3 Nephi 7:2) 2 And the people were divided one against another; and they did separate one from another into tribes, every man according to his family and his kindred and friends; and thus they did destroy the government of the land.
  17. Please do. Very very soon.
  18. This kind of behaviour sounds almost tribal!
  19. If the bacon bushes were trampled, wouldn't that constitute some sort of fall.......at least of the bacon bushes.
  20. Thank you Addendex, this is helpful and informative.
  21. Tranna, I think, the town with the temple and the big spire next to the lake
  22. I'm sure I could benefit from improved health. Is there anyone to whom I can outsource my journalling? It doesn't really have to be true what you write, just as long as I can say that my journalling is being done.
  23. Thank you so much Iggy, this is very moving and so honest. Thank you
  24. I live in a place where the membership is quite transient. Of the six bishops we have had in the time we have been living here, only one remains. People come here to do a job and when the job is done they normally leave. A year ago we were averaging around 200 for sacrament attendance. Now it is down to about 130. I anticipate that in 2 or 3 years it will be around 180 but they won't be the same people. Its a very friendly ward and I feel quite comfortable here, its just transient.
