NeedleinA reacted to tesuji in Six year faith crisis...how do you hold on?
I'm on my mobile so I'll be brief.
My advice is to have faith and feast on the words of Christ.  Stop reading anti-Mormon stuff, which poisons faith,  and instead pray and immerse yourself in the Scriptures. Try to be humble and grateful. Forgive and repent.  Most of all remember the great commandment:  Love and serve God and others.
Maybe these are all Sunday School answers. But I have found that the simple Sunday School answers are very profound.

He never said that sinning had to be a part of the learning process, but He set up a situation where nothing could happen until sin had been committed. From one perspective, it was a no-win situation. On the one hand, Adam and Eve could either commit a sin of omission by ignoring the commandment to go forth and multiply, and keep the commandment not to eat the fruit, or they could commit sin of commission by eating the fruit and thereby be enabled to keep the commandment to go forth and multiply. The commencement, although not the continuation, of the plan, depended entirely on some sort of sin.
I suspect that God was just waiting for the fruit to be eaten before He came back with His additional instructions. it's also unstated how many times previously God had returned and given other instructions prior to Him giving the instructions that we are told of in another place.
There were two special trees in the garden. If I had been Adam, I would have made fruit salad, rather than just sampling one type of fruit at a time.  I wonder what outcomes that would have produced?

I have PTSD so being active in going to Church is hard.  I guess the Word of Wisdom is my biggest stumbling block.
I could use all of YOUR Words of Wisdom.
    thanks

I understand about the PTSD. My nerves get easily frazzled in church with the noise and the crowd.
Keep pressing forward and trying to do what's right. Elder Holland's talk at the end of this last General Conference was great encouragement. Worth listening to again.

Missionary work is hard in our area of the country. We have discussed this at length in various settings...why? The only thing we could collectively agree upon is that people in our area all basically live good, normal, wholesome lives...no real "need" to look upwards or change. The missionaries here have the best success with those that have passed through some experience to either humble/try/test them. Glad the officer is in the "fully active" area now.

If by divine revelation, you mean actual "doctrine" of the church vs. B. Young's opinion, here you go. This is the difference: (lds.org)
"When revelation is doctrine for the whole Church, it comes to only the First Presidency AND Quorum of the Twelve Apostles...  The prophet and President of the Church can receive revelation individually that becomes doctrine when it is sustained by the united voice of the First Presidency AND Quorum of the Twelve Apostles"

Looks like you have variety of questions/concerns... because of a lack of time right now. I'll comment on #3 and I'm sure others will step in for all of them.
    #3. How to avoid them?:
    a. Find wholesome sites that you enjoy and stick with them. Ask friends/family/here for good sites that are clean. I stick to about 20 sites that I enjoy. They are book marked and I am thus able to avoid "surprises".

    b. Get a filter on your internet, something that helps clean it up for you in advance. All of our computers have: K9 Web Protection. It is FREE, and you gauge how strong or weak you want it to protect you. There are others, but this is what we use.

    c. Another user Jojo Bags gave some advice one time that really stuck with me, some thing like "if you have problem with viewing things, stop feeding the evil then". You don't have to quit the internet, but perhaps reduce your time on it "surfing", stop feeding yourself as much. Take an internet diet instead. Random surfing leads to who knows what? The internet is a tool. How you use this tool is up to you. How often you use this tool is up to you. If it is causing you pain, perhaps switch to a different tool instead: books, newspaper, tv program, etc. Along these lines, I don't watch the news, nothing but death, sickness, disasters, worry. I listen to NPR on the way to work, and that is about all I need. Life without the news has been wonderful.

    d. If you are willing to "surf" the internet, then expect to occasionally see the sharks in the water "pornographic images, horror, cruelty, etc.". These sharks linger there waiting for surfers to come by, they are stories/images/hooks to pull you into other sites. Companies spend millions to leave these hooks floating in the water. I don't surf much personally.

"When the brethren have spoken, the thinking has been done"
    RESPONSE
    Brigham Young taught us

What a pity it would be if we were led by one man to utter destruction! Are you afraid of this? I am more afraid that this people have so much confidence in their leaders that they will not inquire for themselves of God whether they are led by Him. I am fearful they settle down in a state of blind self-security, trusting their eternal destiny in the hands of their leaders with a reckless confidence that in itself would thwart the purposes of God in their salvation, and weaken that influence they could give to their leaders, did they know for themselves, by the revelations of Jesus, that they are led in the right way. Let every man and woman know, by the whispering of the Spirit of God to themselves, whether their leaders are walking in the path the Lord dictates, or not. This has been my exhortation continually.  JD IX:150.
Some may say, "Brethren, you who lead the Church, we have all confidence in you, we are not in the least afraid but what everything will go right under your superintendence; all the business matters will be transacted right; and if brother Brigham is satisfied with it, I am." I do not wish any Latter-day Saint in this world, nor in heaven, to be satisfied with anything I do, unless the Spirit of the Lord Jesus Christ, the spirit of revelation, makes them satisfied.  JD III:45.
Joseph Smith, I teach them correct principles and let them govern themselves.

Thanks for the responses, all. Great insight. I hope I can convey this same information in a similarly clear way to my friend.
Just had a thought, though. Seriously. I opened the scriptures to where I left off last time, read 1 Nephi 19:1, which brought to mind the scripture that says, "Out of the mouths of two or three witnesses shall every word be established..."  Might that apply in this situation?  There were those with Joseph Smith when he was visited by heavenly beings, or those who saw the gold plates.  Nephi quoted Isaiah and others.  We've got loads of examples of prophets echoing the words of other prophets, both ancient and modern.  I think it's clearly established that God's not going to say a thing once and then never mention it again (probably because He knows that many of us won't pay attention the first time anyway).
If we take the Brigham Young example again, I don't think I know of any other prophet saying the same thing.  So it's only out of the mouth of one witness.  And, yes, I know that the Spirit is the only certain-sure way to know if a statement matches divine truth or not.  But for those who are not yet familiar with the Spirit's confirming presence, or who resist it, or who don't feel it for whatever reason, would it be fair to say that if a statement is confirmed by another, then it is much more likely to be prophetic than if it comes from only one person?

We must miss them at least to a small degree, we have a graveyard at one of our temples. Winter Quarters.
For me there is a powerful message in seeing graves at the temple when I go. Looking at past generations/ pioneers makes me more resolve in not wanting to be the "weak link" in my family history. That is just me though.
