Oooh what bands do you like? I'm a big crue fan.. I saw their last ever tour last year and the drum roller-coaster. I also went to work for Halloween last year as a pregnant Gene Simmons ? -

Thanks for the replies I really love hanging about with people in the ward but my friend's share my dark sense of humour more and my love of 80s metal ?. My friends won't be getting blind drunk but will insist on sitting outside on the smoking patio cough cough lol, then we are going for Mexican ? I'm doing my visiting teaching before we meet up too so it's definitely going to be a game of two halves ? -

No pressure I'm too old for that, maybe it's just people in the ward tend to hang out with other people in the ward. -
Hi, I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice about visiting pubs/bars. At the moment I've avoided them but my friend's outside the Church really like spending time in them, most of them drink and smoke. I miss hanging out with them, I don't think many people in my ward would visit them unless it was a restaurant. Is this a Lds thing? Are we advised to avoid these places even if we are drinking soft drinks?

Small groups would work Imo, then say you want one person from each group to be spokes person takes pressure off. Those are good examples too! Hope it goes well x

I get aniexty I'm also a newbie in my ward. I found focusing on others saved me from getting anxious about being somewhere new or not knowing what I was doing. Now I've been going to Church 10 months and everyone knows me, I spend time with lots of people outside of Church and ive had people say they feel blessed I've joined the ward

Basically I got told that trousers are fine but like suit trousers. Im not a dress fan either so I wear a suit skirt and blouse to Church every Sunday with black flats. I do like looking my best for Church. The guidelines for dress you can find in a booklet on the lds.org website called For the Strength of youth. I got given this book when I was looking into the Church (I'm 32) but the standards of dress are the same what ever age.

My Three year old takes the Sacrament, before I joined the Church I did not get my Son Christened as I had decided I no longer believed in Infant baptism. I want him to want to take the sacrament and to understand its meaning, no greater teacher then emulation in young children.

Yeah the temple is certainly amazing.. Ive been a Christian all my life but I've never felt anything like what I felt that day ? It was just beautiful, I really felt my mum was with me, I tear up just thinking about it. I don't think I will be going again to do baptisms though, it was very difficult trying to organise as people my age (ahem) don't really do baptisms. I'm very grateful to the people in the ward who came so we didn't have to tag onto a youth session lol. -

Oh wow, I didn't know that about visiting the temple in the first year.. I went two weeks ago, did the Baptism work for my mum and gran, it was a very emotional day. I'm not planning on going anywhere of course but I wonder why the rate goes down if you visit the temple? Do you think it's because the convert might be more committed.. same questions for a limited use recommend as a recommend? -

So.. Thought it might be a nice idea to have a blessings thread ? So..I am currently on Maternity leave and in the UK we get a year with 9 months paid. The other 3 I don't get paid so I saved up some money to account for that.. I am not lying every time since I started paying tithing I have dipped into my maternity fund, I always get the exact amount back so I have enough to live on at the end of my maternity leave. So far I have sold a phone to a friend, got a tax rebate, had a small windfall from a relative. Also anytime I need anything big (like a high chair) for my kids i always manage to find it on sale ? Has anyone else had any blessings recently?

Haha... now I'm laughing and my family are looking at me like I'm a loonatic.. telling them what I'm laughing about probably isnt going to change their minds. -
Yeah it mentions this... a spiritual outburst on Jan 22 1833, the school of the Prophets. "much speaking and praying in tongues... Lucy Smith remembered hearing this while baking bread, she dropped her work and joined the meeting. P213 Obviously they were all speaking the same language so... It's more evangelical

Sorry I don't know how to get rid of the above on my phone. two questions.. Answers most appreciated 1, when did the Wow become compulsory? I thought it was a covenant, is this not the case? You have to speak to your Bishop if you break it so? 2, The Book mentions speaking in tounges, I asked when investigating about the mention of tongues in the Articles of Faith, yet I was told that it was like Missionaries being able to learn other languages really quickly and stuff, the book talks about it in what I would describe as an evangelical way. Do we speak in tongues? I've never seen anyone at Church do it and Catholics are taught it's like mediums and things, tools of the Devil.
