You have to remember the treatment of blacks was not just a religious issue. Most people were not very kind to blacks, Asians and Indians. It was worse in the south . The whole country started to come about and change . The church in the beginning had so many problems with the government could you imagine if the issue of blacks was on the table. Everything has a time and when the proclamation was made to allow blacks to hold the priesthood was the time. I learned some of this from a talk I saw on BYU TV and it was a mixed race couple talking. Brigham Young was a great man and his faults you see were just a symptom of the times he lived in he wasn't much different than many men of his time. he has alot of good council and I would hope you could get past the race issue and see it. So glad you are here.:)

Relax and enjoy...... I have seven fro 30 to 12 . The babies 12 & 13 were the funnest cause we were relaxed it is a baby, not going to break easily we wern't caught up in worring about every little thing but mabey that comes with time. I know I am blessed by each and every one of my children. The 12 & 13 year olds hate being called the babies and if I could they wouldn't be the last because my busy house is getting quieter each year. When I had my first child I was told don't be afraid to take your baby outside as long as their dressed appropriatly (sp). My first was born in December and was taken everywhere, she thrived. Oh yes when you can't sleep and the baby won't stop crying remember " this to shall pass"

Your so right E.:) but we should always listen to gift if intuition, forsight we have been givin or loose the gift. My PB says " angels will whisper in your ear and warn you when danger is near" I 've taken this to heart since I was a teen and been saved many a time from problems, pain just by listening. Speaking of pain my body is really hurting today but my spirit is in wonderful shape because of my new outlook and all I am doing to feel better at least mentally and spiritually. Blessings to all.

I found it very interesting when I posted a topic asking if anyone would like to talk about depression in a positive way , sharing what works etc. I got very little response but when someone writes th piece just written that started this thread wow the response was amazing. I think / know we are always stronger when united and the more we loose the isolation of depression and reach out to each other the better we all are. I'm just so tired of the fight and am going at it a whole new way, my way with a bit of this and that all I've learned from all those books etc. My life is so hard almost to the point of overwhelming but somehow someway I will overcome this or at least cope in a more positive way. One day one moment and sometimes one breath at a time. You all are great , I think for me this interaction is wonderful. :hippie:Till next time peace and enlightenment

" I allow myself to be sad, have a bad day , then I regroup and continue with the fight. I feel I am more perceptive because I have had to deal with this. I have more compassion and understanding to others with problems. So you can say depression has made me a better person.... HA HA stretching it but makes me feel better puting a positive spin on it. Meditation is a great tool, Relaxation exercises, and cognitive thinking really help. I read a great book by Kim Nelson " If god loves me why this" it is a must read if you have struggles of any king. I got it so clearly. I loved it and refer to it often.

Thats great . I just think people forget the whole and concentrate on coffee and tea and its so much more. My mother gave me an old pinkish tupperware steamer and we have just had a great time steaming vegies . Right now asparagus is the one. We eat almost no processed foods, pizza is probably our downfall. Wow if your CURE worked for you great. There is not a blanket cure for anyone. This post has me almost mad enough to argue my point but I think thats why you wrote it to stir the pot because no one could be so narrowminded could they? I suffer from this and believe me I don't whine and wallow. I am busy with my kids, Choir, fundraisers, church, etc. I don't want attention. Anyway its useless to argue. My peace and harmony has saved you. I have no cures for Depression but I have alot of tools which help me cope . You are not helping. El and Tree Thanks so much. I belive it is a gift but as with any we have to be careful we are staying on the right path. I've known things. I think some of us are more intuitive than others and some can't even deal with the prospect and make humor of it . I once heard in a talk from ??? All good things come from Father in Heaven. I guess we shouldn't always share our gifts with others, sad but true. You are ok in my book and lucky .:)

John Doe your first comment could have been misinterpreted but your following comments were clear. Shame on you I know your an adult don't be so mean. I was inactive on and off most of my adult life and one of the things I refered back to often was my PB that and my testimony of the church (not always the people ) kept me wanting , needing to go back. If it were for some of the people I wouldn't have returned but I know the church is pure and true, the people tho sometimes I don't know what their thinking. I hope you can get you PB there is a lot of positive support here I have seen it and alot of Puffed UP Guys who don't think before they go to their keyboards or are heartless, one or the other.

It always seems funny to me when members get caught up in one little part of the Word Of Wisdom which is so much more. I have some questions, ? 1. How many eat meat sparingly that includes fowl, fish and poultry.? 2. Do you use every herb every fruit with prudence? 3. What happened to " To be sent as greeting: not by comandment or constraint, but by revelation" D&C 89:2 The word of wisdom is a wonderful guideline and we can all pick it apart but studies have shown the wisdom for not doing these things . You can pick apart the verbage but I think it is ,besides the obvious, up to us to realize the right choices. There is alot of conflict if you want to make it but for me it is very simple. I don't think the wow has to add illegal drugs etc for us to know they are not ment to be used. The WOW to me says to not do anything in excess. Anything that alters my perception, reasoning or ability to function shouldn't be used. Ok sayng that I take pain pills for a Chronic Pain situation , even this I watch and use with care knowing if I wasn't vigilant I might overuse or abuse without meaning to. Should Father in Heaven said," Don't take anything into your bodies that could harm your ability to grow both mentally and phisically to be all you can be and you will be blessed" I agree with the anything made by Hostess comment only by experience and overindulgence lol Oh yes and don't forget ' Judge not least ye be judged ' something we humans are guilty of often

WOW you guys have helped me lot. I think I choose the middle road a and take some of what all of you say to heart. Financial disasters aren't gonna come as a blanket over the land but in smaller disasters. Being prepared for the hard times whatever they may be is a good thing . Great hearing all your opinions keep up the great input.

OK for me I would mabey spend only half my lunches in the teachers lounge. I wouldn't participate in negative conversations except to mabey change the subject. Ok I have just read all 9 pages of this forum. I ate my Popcorn cheered, was angry,sad and in awe at times. Here is what I got from it. 1. be careful not to aks to many questions because you might be accused of all kinds of evil. 2. Members of this church are sometimes very protective and run off at the keyboard without thinking. Anti Mormon stuff all has reasonable answers and we should always be happy to repeat ourselves with the info we know. 3. Some got the negative road this was taking and realized the right way and corrected their actions.:) way to go tree. 4. Some like to make their point with sarcastic humor^_^ I get it and enjoy 5. Many of you have such wonderful testimonies and I LOVE learning from you all. Wanderer YOU are AWESOME Kona you keep searching and praying the truth will come to you in your timeand from all I know and belive the truth is there for you to find but remember on this earth nothing is 100% there will always be questions. When President Hinkley died I was watching BYU TV and they showed a segment from 60 Minutes that had a relative of the late Pres Benson slamming the church , I was so impressed with Pres H's comments he was calm , sweet as always and just said basically it was sad this person felt this way and he was entitled to his opinion. I am not quoting so if you look it up through BYU Broadcasting you can find it exactly . It was the love and paitence he showed when he was talking about this person. Just like a child who had lost his was. Christ like you know. Even if someone is stiring the pot so to speak should we treat him any different. Do you read the chemicals in liquid soap at the least you can give them diaharea anyway I belive you shouldn't do something to your children that your not willing to have done to yourself. Please we are the parents and its abuse in my eyes and some courts.

I think perfectionism in its self is ok. Like the carpenter exact is important. I think the word is more like self rightous that we have problems with. I have severe depression and serious pain issues, my husband is't active snd many assume because I always don't attend I'm not being true to my faith and I am. Going to church is important but being a member is more than just attending meetings Its who I am . I haven't read anywhere that we all have to dress alike and all look alike and all like the same things. I live in the mountains and 50 miles from our meetinghouse my lifestyle is far different from the city members . I respect their choices and love them . I just want them to do the same. Life is hard enough with out the ones who are suppose to help build you up judging you and pulling you down. I just try to remember I'm ok and I choose Jesus plan before I came and continue my journey on this earth the best I can . This site is great for me to be able to learn, read , and grow reading all the posts. I feel less isolated. I am a loner of sorts and feel more connected to the church with sites like this and the Church site and BYU TV. I can continue my sunday school study even if I miss a class. My computer is an awsome way for me to be closer to the church in learning about the gospel and members.

My experience in church is that it happens everywhere not just Utah but I understand " Utah Morman's" . We have alot of transports moving here from there and all are dear but the Perfect Standard is a bit much for us real folks here. There is one sister in particular who won't even acknowledge me in hall when we pass. I use to really be hurt by it but decided I would be nice even if she couldn't. Isn't being self-rightous being puffed up in your knowledge, position etc. judging others when you have no right to. We are so hard on each other in my eyes and those that have more tend to judge us who don't . I've learned over the years I would never go to church if I let what other people said or thought ( negative wise ) disturb me. We are all at different places and we have to love each other and encourage each other no matter where we are in this journey. Satan constantly trys to breed contention between the saints in so many little ways that we have to fight back with positive purpose , being christ like ( so hard at times ) to others. The only perfect I have in my life is " a perfect brightness of hope"^_^
