I would wager most Utah wards have a baptism every 1-2 years. That’s been my experience at least. You can generally tell how many baptisms an area has based I. The amount of missions. Utah missions are supposedly among the highest baptizing missions in the western world.

The world has already agreed this is acceptable... but if you are caught at 6:30am grilling a steak, or re-heating last nights lasagna... you might as well ostracize yourself on an island.

https://thirdhour.org/blog/life/mormon-culture/culture-punch-in-face/ I have my own list if anyone cares to read: 1) Joking about trying to avoid the bishop or trying to get out of a talk or calling. 2) Saying that it is acceptable that you are consistently 15 minutes late to 9 am church when you have kids (same family continues to be 15 minutes late to 11:30 am church when the time changes... speaking from personal experience) 3) Focusing on exceptions and unique cases instead of principles of the gospel / leaving long disclaimers at the end of testimonies to prevent offending anyone. (ie "God wants all worthy able men to serve missions, but if you *insert 5 minute explanation as to why missions aren't for everyone*") 4) to-do lists are evil and Pharisaical. The higher law is to just be good and you will naturally do everything you need to. 5) Accusing anyone of hypocrisy or being judgmental. (These are just ways of redirecting personal failing that have been brought to light. And I am not sure we really understand what hypocrisy REALLY means) 6) Home Teaching was this terrible program that needed to change (it wasn't, it was a fantastic program that members failed at). 7) Desiring and enjoying leadership callings is bad. Aspiring to leadership is bad. (We should all be aspiring to Godhood and seeking opportunities to serve a grow along the way) eight*) Dinner foods cant be eaten for breakfast (yes they can) 9) Complaining about church culture is cool. (It's not) *Every time I typed "8 )" it turned into 😎

Gross Tithing, Gross Blessings. Net Tithing, Net Blessings
Fether replied to Backroads's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
I completely agree 👍 but it isn’t as cut dry when it comes to temporal things like life, wealth and experiences in life and that was what I was referring to (though I didn’t make that clear). Sure it is exactly as stated when it comes to present obedience and our ultimate reward in heaven, but when it comes to viewing wealth, healings, quantity/quality baptisms, drawings into marathons, or whatever earthly reward one could desire, it isn’t as cut and dry as “be obedient, get a priesthood blessing, and you will be physically healed”. The true reward comes after judgement. But as for temporal rewards, obedience alone will not grant you what you want. -
Gross Tithing, Gross Blessings. Net Tithing, Net Blessings

I almost feel there is no correlation between obedience and blessings sometimes. It’s like if I’m sick with cancer and I am going be healed regardless of what I do. if I am bitter and curse God, the healing will be a rebuke and a reminder that he still loves me despite my pride. If I’m faithful, then the experience I have is a faith promoting experience. -
That same episode of VICE came to mind when I heard about all this.

While playing on my college’s Drumline, we got done with this practice run of a snare solo and it went beautifully. The guy next to me shouted “that was nasty!” I was confused for a good minute before I realized “nasty” was actually slang for awesome.

The Christmas Special was made canon as of the mention of “life day” in the Mandalorian 🥳

A storm trooper fleeing the 1st order and becoming a Jedi? That would have been a cool concept to witness. Perhaps having him be a knight or Ren, one or SnokeMs guards, or another melee unit would allow them to skip over some amount of training montages too.

Gross Tithing, Gross Blessings. Net Tithing, Net Blessings

Though I never did the chant, I was for a long time a gross-tithinger. But someone (on this site I believe) pointed out hat of you paid on gross in a European country that had higher tax, you would end up with a unlivable income. My personal approach to living the law of tithing is still tovoay gross. I’m paid 1099 so I don’t have taxes taken out from my paycheck and instead I pay it all during tax season. Because I don’t know how much I will make in the year, tithing on “ net” would be difficult. Additionally, it does not make sense to pay on net cause taxes are just another expense. If I were to justify that taxes deduct from my “increase”, then shouldn’t I be able to justify that my monthly rent, insurance cost, grocery cost, gas and electric, etc all deduct from my “increase” too? I would end up paying next to nothing in tithing. That is my opinion but I don’t try to preach it cause I know there isn’t any official declaration on it. I just don’t feel right pay tithing on net. And the chant seems stupid to me -
In memory of Vader. I can’t remember where it is explained, but he wants to be like his grandfather (guess Uncle Luke never told him he turned good in the end)

The movie was clearly made for the new age geeks of the Starwars series. The force draining, healing, and extreme force abilities, sith artifacts and secret homework’s are are all found in the expanded canon universe outside of the movies. If you are a Starwars cinema purest, I can see how it would be weird. But if you grew up in the 90s and played KOTR1/2, The Starwars Jedi games, and/or Starwars Force Unleashed, Starwars Rebels and a Starwars Clone Wars, then episode 9 would be a welcome addition to the series as it did what the video games and tv series everyone of my generation grew up on. Just to give you an idea of how this all fits in my mind: 1) in KOTR (Knights of the Old Republic, which has been confirmed to be canon), the Sith were not just a bunch of evil Jedi, they were an empire that was at war with the republic. It appears to be playing in that concept, that Palpatine was the leader of the remaining Sith and over episodes 1-9 he was manipulating the world preparing for the return of the Sith Empire as seen in episode 9. 2) In KOTR, soul jumping as explained by Palpatine was established 3) in Force Unleashed, the main character Galen pulled down a star destroyer from the sky with the force 4) In the Starwars Jedi games (and almost every other game) force drain and heal were among the many expanded force abilities not seen in the movies. Episode 9 was very familiar experience and almost relieving to see concepts I loved finally make it to the cinema. The games and tv shows were far more spiritual and fantastical than episodes 1-8 were. 7-8 tried to impress the old school fans as well as the newer generation... but failed pretty bad... Episode 9 seemed to aim at the newer generation of fans by pulling more from non-cinematic canon than from the cinematic canon... which I personally prefer so much more. Though episodes 1-3 and 7-8 were not incredible, the stories in the tv series and video games were absolutely incredible.

This will once again reveal my taste in movies, but one reason why I actually enjoy the prequels is because it doesn’t take place in a space Wild West. It was a large scale war between two galactic super powers. I want to see that again! I want more explosions!! (Side note: I thought the planet destruction scene is ROS was muy bien, my favorite visual effect in all of Starwars).
-
Me too. No skywalkers, no storm troopers, a lot more spiritual take on the force through sith artifacts and temples, an expanded take on the force that we saw in Rise of Skywalker, and an all out war between the sith and Jedi. I hope they take that path

I am fantastic at catching typos/auto corrections aren’t I? XD

I think what has fatigued is sky walker, storm/clone troopers, and the Wild West like like setting of episodes 4-9 (personal opinion). Supposedly the next saga is scheduled to start 2022 and to take place in the Old Republic. And Darth Revan has been made canon so I wouldn’t be surprised to see it be a rendition of “Knights if the Old Republic”, a very different setting from the current saga

The Doctrine and Covenants Institute manual has the following quote: ”God has all power because He is in perfect harmony with all law." Just like how a man with a perfect understanding of chess will be vastly greater than a novice, so is God to man. We are here to learn those physical and spiritual laws that we learn of in the Bible. It is law that in order to produce miracle we must be clean. Through repentance and Christ, we can live in harmony with those eternal spiritual laws and just like physical laws, the spiritual ones will manifest spiritual reactions in our lives. Once we master all these laws, then we are like God

Ya man, you are behind! Saw an article titled “tea is healthy”. After reading that title I immediately removed my name from the church.

Just saw it. Absolutely incredible. I felt it answered many of the complaints of the saga as well as made room for answers to complaints of the prequels. Also, being a fan of the many star wars video games and it being all but confirmed that KOTOR is part of the Disney canon, it was cool to see some call backs to many of the mechanics Jedi had in the games, but never on camera. It was also relieving for them to take a far more religious dive in this one, similar to what we see in the video games and tv series. Also, it was cool to hear the voices of characters from outside the movies in that ending scene before Rey defeated Palpatine. Pretty sure I heard two people from the Star Wars clone wars and rebels tv series 8/10. Would have been 10/10, but it just moved way to quickly in the first half.
-
Haven’t seen it yet, but I’m sure it will yet again be the best Starwars movie ever released just like every movie since the beginning of the prequels.

How long does it take for the IRS to begin And complete a full investigation on this? Or how long does it take the IRS to decide this isn’t worth looking into? I am excited to add this to the list of slanders that turned out to be nothing.
