  1. Agreed. That said, it means something to the kids.
  2. I'm more concerned with pulling them out of an organization in which the kids build upon their past achievements.
  3. I mostly ask because I have two boys at "that age". I don't want to involve them in BSA, so I was hoping something was started in my area soon.
  4. Do you think this will cause the church to move up its new programs?
  5. Is there a map or thread of where people live? I wonder if anyone is in the North East
  6. As someone who studies marketing, statistics, and trends I understand why people are lumped into groups. Millennials are no different. Generations frequently share certain characteristics in large percentages. How I market to millennials is DECIDEDLY different from how I market to generation Z. That doesn't take away from the fact that they are individuals and not alike in every aspect. As to parenting, I understand what @JoCa means when he says parenting is easy, but I think he's simplifying it. I find parenting difficult, but mostly because of my own struggles with patience and selfishness. I think I do well overcoming those, for the most part, and believe my children are on the right track. I also agree with the question of why people, particularly church members, look for new ways of parenting when the church has put forth the Principles of Parenting as a template.
  7. Heathens always get excluded. There should be a law.
  8. Oddly, some Jews DO recognize Christ as the Messiah. I thought it very odd and wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't dated a girl who was of this "sect".
  9. The Principles of Parenting has very distinct opposition to some points in the article, in my opinion.
  10. This was the conclusion I came to. The church has already spoken on the issue of parenting. It didn’t seem to be what was proposed here. Does that not matter?
  11. Honestly, we moved here because of the children. We felt it was better for them, and our parenting style, to be in the country.
  12. Reading in the morning is difficult for me but I agree that listening seems to be less impactful for me. I listened this morning during the beginning of my commute and I think I’ll go back and read it tonight.
  13. Tonight I set my alarm for 5 minutes after I get up to remind me to pray. I've changed my running and gym playlist to the Book of Mormon podcast. That will be a shock, I'm sure. I don't know how long that will last, though.
  14. I already told him shower only. I can't push my luck.
  15. I strive to be the most active non-member in the ward. On the plus side, maybe I'll start a trend. On the minus side, if that trend results in a bunch of active non-members, we'll all be in the wrong kingdom.
  16. I just emailed the 1st Counselor because I know him. The cat is out of the bag now.
  17. I'll have to study what an elder's quorum president is, then I WILL ask him.
  18. Thank you! I'd buy Scriptures to write in but I spent all my money on fountain pens. The LDS Library it is! Maybe I SHOULD use my alarm to remind me until I get into the habit. That website your brother made is a wealth of knowledge. Thank you for sharing.
  19. Welcome! Did you know Mormons are Christians too? I didn't until I started reading this forum. I'll leave answering your question to those with greater knowledge. You've come to the right place, though. I look forward to the answer you receive because I'm sure it will teach me something.
  20. I realize this question may result in answers that don't work for everyone, but I feel compelled to post. Possibly because making shortcomings public is a form of accountability. I'm horrible at prayer and staying in the scripture. I need to make it a priority to pray productively daily, read the scripture, and live the Word of Wisdom. I don't know why I feel the urgency to do this, but I suppose it doesn't matter. How do you keep yourself on track? Because it isn't a habit, I don't even think about it until it's half-way through the day. Do you physically read the scripture daily? Do you use an ipad or listen online? Does that count? It seemed fine to me the first time through, but now it doesn't seem like quite enough. I should start a struggling investigator support group. If the moderators would like me to keep my rantings in my missionaries thread, please move this or just ask me to repost there. I just stuck it here because it seemed like a side focus, not my main journey. Although, now that I'm ready to hit submit, I may be wrong.
  21. I tried to explain to the Bishop why I refused to be baptized. I think I'll just send him a link to this thread. He'll understand.
  22. The principles of Parenting. Part 1. My beliefs seem to be in line with the church. Is that defense enough?
  23. Probably. Maybe try to gain insight, rather than take offense when none was intended?
  24. You keep saying I don't understand your thinking but as I've stated numerous times, that isn't true. In fact, I've repeatedly stated I DO understand it and just provided links to establish that I've understood it for over a decade. I think you just don't like the reality that someone disagrees with you and thinks less of your opinion on a topic because you have zero experience in it. Good luck. I'll continue to respond......or not.....as needed.
