  1. Sorry, It was hard to read it through the pot smoke.
  2. Sure. I'd be willing to bet most members of the church at times exhibit behavior that isn't Christ-like. They are human, after all. I heard a great talk about it today in Principles. I wish I could remember who it was by. Luckily, there is repentance.
  3. I wasn't asking in judgment, merely wondering how you get a temple recommend without lying. I don't think they ask when you last spoke to your brother or if you've recently flipped someone off in traffic, but they do ask about the Word of Wisdom, don't they?
  4. Interesting. How could social drinking not be against the Word of Wisdom? Am I missing something?
  5. I'm willing to bet the numbers are significantly less than those that lie to have sex.
  6. That's a symptom, not a disease. Men need to get married before having sex.
  7. We've covered that. I got it. It's better to wallow in self-pity than forgive and move on. Have a great night.
  8. If that's what you think is best. That doesn't sound overtly Christian to me, but who am I to judge. I have my own sins to bear. Good luck on your journey.
  9. Sure, but to be perfectly honest I initially took a few of your posts the wrong way myself. Maybe, as I suggested in an earlier post, step back and put yourself in their shoes for a minute. Then everyone can take a deep breath and start again.
  10. Those are the times I try hardest to be "tactful". It's not easy and I fail often.
  11. Exactly. Many people are willing to compromise their principles for what they perceive to be the "bigger win".
  12. People really like to call other people sinful.
  13. https://ldsmag.com/why-bother-studying-the-textual-variants-in-the-book-of-mormon/ Interesting topic in today’s Meridian.
  14. That's silly. This is the internet. You don't even KNOW who these people are. Half of them could be bigger heathens than me. Now, take a step back. First, remember I'm not a Mormon. I'm an investigator, same as you. Second, put on a pair of Mormon shoes and think about it. It doesn't matter if you're right. It doesn't matter if they're wrong. It doesn't matter if every person on this forum is a jackwagon. The only thing that matters is YOU and your relationship with Christ, right? So why would they react this way? Think about it from their perspective, right or wrong. You asked questions that have been tossed in their face most of their lives. They've fought these accusations numerous times. Do you think it might be hard to NOT think the things they said? People come on here regularly, I'd imagine, and act innocently then attack their religion. Read through some of the things I posted in my thread. I basically called them all nuts. I'm amazed they didn't boot me. What you do from here is your own business. Don't come on this forum if it distracts your learning. Use the online missionaries for asking questions. They're awesome. But I would ask you to have a little compassion, even if others aren't showing you the same. It can't be easy for them, just as this isn't easy for you. I KNOW it isn't. I'm right there with you. It must be even harder with a spouse that is against this working for you. Read. Ponder. Pray. Find a missionary you can talk to that the spirit speaks to you through. That is the only thing that has kept me investigating thus far. Whatever you decide to do, if you investigate seriously and ask Christ for guidance, your faith will be stronger.
  15. Are you really sorry? I don't believe you after the first 6 times you posted.
  16. Yes. You have to remember that LDS receive revelation from modern prophets. You really have to read the current edition of anything if you want accuracy. You either accept that or you don't. That's the faith, though. Have you prayed on it? As I stated earlier, I stopped praying for truth and understanding on most things. I pray for peace on certain topics because I fully understand that my short time studying has uncovered many things that are going to take much reading and pondering to fully understand. My prayer for peace was answered. If you're sincere in your quest for knowledge, I bet yours will be too. Granted, saying "I'm OK with this for now" isn't much of an answer for your husband's questions, but really this is about your journey right now. He has his own.

These threads make me sad. I understand how it gets to this point, but it just doesn't have to.
  18. I was talking to a missionary who said polygamy shook her faith horribly when she first started her mission. I didn't ask details, but I assume it was something an anti hit her with. She worked through it. I'm often surprised what people in the church don't know about their own history. Maybe it's just because I've been researching so much. That said, why would it be something regularly talked or spoken about? I mean, it's certainly not hidden, but I don't know why it would be taught unless just to prepare people for the accusations. It has nothing to do with the plan for salvation. It has nothing to do current church doctrine. Additionally, why read the 1937 version of The Book of Mormon? Assuming @Blossom76 accepts modern prophets, it would make sense to read the most current version. I would put forth that if her husband has a sincere desire to try this, he try it correctly.
  19. Even I know of these things and I’m a heathen.
  20. I like you. Still, they are legitimate questions. I had them myself, yet moved past them. I think this problem is made worse through advanced studying without the benefit of the Holy Spirit.
  21. Exactly. This is why people don’t convert. You make us nervous.
