  1. Then what is to be done? You can see this forum has examples of people whose faith is polluted and are sharing it openly. Is there not an obligation to call it out and attempt to correct false information as it appears? At times, to discuss it is to give it legitimacy. I absolutely understand why it's tolerated here from nonmembers. They don't represent the faith and can be debated. However, members DO have the appearance of representing the faith. I had a few members here reach out to me via PM and build trust. I learn down the road they really shouldn't be the examples I should be following. This can be damaging to someone looking for answers.
  2. This, with the exception of the timeline, is exactly how I feel. There are many things about the church I don't have a testimony of. I still obey them and sustain church leaders regardless because I know the Church is true. The blessings I've received as a result are unquestionable. A quick read of my missionaries thread, however, shows this wasn't always the case. I'll have to read it again one day soon.
  3. Thanks for pointing that out. I'm frequently guilty of that. I need that reminder.
  4. To be honest, I'd rather you just avoid my threads. I don't need to question your faith. You've been pretty open about it. However, that's your business, not mine.
  5. EVERY business or centralized organization monitors news stories, social media, and the like. Heck, we pay people HUGE money to provide software to make it easier.
  6. Thanks. I wish more people would stand up and call out those who act as you describe. @Vort does a great job and I respect him for it.
  7. A private forum to discuss the new curriculum would be nice.
  8. Thanks for this. I feel that I study quite a bit and I'm nowhere near understanding what is right or a deceiver. There are a few on here that I really admire for their faithfulness, insight, and intelligence. I think one of the hardest things for me, though, are the people who won't even live their own covenants and post ridiculous things, seemingly in an attempt to get others off the path with them. They'll argue so intently in favor of false or line-straddling positions that it derails what may have otherwise been a faith-building or informative discussion. They take many topics down that road, feeding each other and denying those of us desiring to learn the opportunity because the people with the most to add simply avoid those discussions.
  9. I still lose my snowmobile.
  10. I disagree. I think it's gotten worse with every president since W. I think you notice it less when you're side is in office.
  11. Summer it holds motorcycles, ATVs, and farm equipment. In winter it holds cars.
  12. I agree. I'm about at that point now. It's too bad because I learn so much from from many of the posts, but either they get derailed by some or I get distracted by the noise. I don't recall any of your posts being problems. I do recall gathering some good onsite from some of your posts.
  13. I have a fondness for this forum as it played a big part in building my testimony. However, the more I learn about the faith, the more frustrating this forum can be. Having been on this forum for a short while I've noticed several types of posters: We have some VERY faithful and intelligent posters here. Some know the doctrine inside and out. Others just do their best to follow Christ. While they debate opposite sides of some pretty interesting topics, they don't seem to be important to progression, just interesting topics. We have intelligent and thoughtful non-members who add opposing insight or confirming testimony. They're respectful of our beliefs and I love reading their posts. We have trolls, which I discount and ignore. We have investigators and drivebys seeking answers to specific questions. Then we have members of the Church who aren't active, challenge doctrine, are openly vocal in their opposition of church leaders at times, yet post as though they are authorities on topics of doctrine, often with misleading information. At times they dance around what I consider apostasy. This last group is what frustrates me. I have a hard enough time as a new member absorbing doctrine and culture. Some of my original understandings, that I received from this type of poster, has turned out to be quite false. It's concerning and detracts from my spiritual growth. Sadly, I'm sure that makes some of them happy. There's my semi-annual whining.
  14. Again, you're moving the goal posts. Nobody said anything about boxes.
  15. Words mean something. You specifically used the term "brainwashing". You complained that you were never given a choice of faiths. You blamed the church for your feelings of guilt for your sin. You generally called into question the words of the Prophet. You are also moving the goalposts again. What I pointed out above was the support for your thesis that we should teach our children other faiths and let them decide for themselves. Christ didn't preach Buddhism.
  16. An adult learning culture isn't a parent teaching other religion. A child playing soccer with other faiths isn't a parent teach the doctrine of other faiths. Interfaith councils or events aren't teaching children another doctrine so they can make up their own mind later. Your words were very specific. Don't move the goalposts.
  17. Two different things. I love discussing faith with members of other churches. I'm not only respectful, but I also encourage it. I love to learn. That said, this topic isn't about hiding other faiths from your children. It's about "brainwashing" our children with the Book of Mormon. That's the context of my post.
  18. Beautiful. I can't believe the Prophet is as old as he is.
  19. As I said, I know you are. Whether or not truth fears inquiry is irrelevant. Children leave the church all the time. Adults stop attending church and the temple. They stop tithing. Why give your children a reason? I have limited time every day to teach my children about Heavenly Father. I have limited amount of time each day to study scripture with my family. Telling my kids "here are lots of different ideas, I believe this one. You figure it out on your own" is NOT doing them any favors or setting them up for success. If you believe taking the limited time you have with your children and use it teaching them false doctrine then you probably aren't on as solid ground as you think.
  20. I know you do. Being that I'm following Heavenly Father's command, I'm pretty comfortable with my stance. I missed the part where he tells me to teach them Islam.
  21. I love that talk. Do you subscribe to "The Daily Prophet"? Our nightly prayers always end with "Let me find one person to serve tomorrow". We talk about our success at dinner. Granted, it's not "selfless" if you're talking about it, I suppose, but I think it's giving my boys the right idea.
  22. That's absolutely false. If I don't shoot heroin I lose the right to tell people heroin is bad? You teach your children what is good. The world attempts to teach them what is bad. My "open-mindedness isn't what gives me the "right" to preach to other families. The command from God does.
  23. Why in the world would you encourage apostasy in your kids? Why do you spend so much time on things that harm your faith and testimony? Why do you try to encourage others to do the same?
  24. Why in the world would I waste my children's time teaching them to investigate other religions? It serves no purpose and doesn't add to their progression. It's like telling your kids to investigate heroin.
