  1. I would not blame yourself. Even if you had become friends with her, possibly another circle of friends may have led her to the same place. The past is the past. But you can change how you would react in a future situation should it arise. Matteo
  2. I would say yes. You can also remind them of these verses in Colossians And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy; giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son. Matteo
  3. Are you saying Catholics and Latter-day Saints are similar to first century Christians?
  4. He believed in a false Christ (Michael the Archangel).
  5. Maybe he is referring to people who try very hard to do their best and then rely on His grace to make up the shortfall. This works-based faith was the mentality of the Pharisees and it is prevalent in various world religions today (where they perform their own set of good deeds to appease their gods).
  6. Are the plagues God afflicted them with mentioned in the Egyptian history you refer to?
  7. I drew a parallel because it was mentioned Nephi and his brothers fled from Laban's servants who were pursuing them to slay them (1 Nephi 3). In chapter 4, verse 36 expresses a future potential danger as they plan to escape into the wilderness with only one of these servants. I found a good commentary indicating Pharaoh did die in the Red Sea. But I also saw some to the contrary. I would lean toward the former.
  8. Is the reference of speaking to the Red Sea (1 Nephi 4:2) only metaphorical or does it convey that Moses physically spoke words to the sea? Why does Nephi juxtapose Laban with the Egyptians instead of just Pharaoh in the next verse? Is this teaching Pharaoh himself did not actually drown with his army? Matteo
  9. Does the Church have any specific standards for holiness which would preclude a person (whether lesbian or homosexual) from serving as a temple worker?
  10. I re-read your posts. Based on what you said, is it fair to conclude that the gods of verse 19 are also considered *appointed angels* like those in verse 16?
  11. I do not mean to sound like a troll like @Jane_Doe says or not sounding honest or forthright like you said. Maybe I am misunderstanding verses 15-17 then. I read that relevant section in one of the manuals on the church's website but it did not explain it. https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/doctrine-and-covenants-student-manual-2017?lang=eng Verse 15 refers to those whose marriage covenant does not extend past the resurrection. Verse 16 seems to insinuate that all these are appointed angels and that these angels become ministering servants. Does the phrase "ministering servants" refer to a group of people who serve? If yes, who are they? Are they members of the telestial, terrestrial, or celestials kingdoms, or a combination of all 3? And who are they rendering service to? (those whom are described as worthy of a far more, and an exceeding, and an eternal weight of glory). Matteo
  12. Aside from the baptism you mentioned, is there another proxied ordinance mentioned in Doctrine and Covenants that helps one inherit the celestial kingdom?
  13. @CV75 explained it a few posts later.
  14. To God or to the gods mentioned in that section?
  15. I am still reading it and will decide when I have read it all.
  16. 1 Nephi 3:19 writes "And behold, it is wisdom in God that we should obtain these records, that we may preserve unto our children the language of our fathers". Were these plates the only available books/scrolls that Lehi and family had to prevent them from losing their ability to preserve their language? Did they take anything with them of their Israelite language (which they presumably knew too) or were they solely knowledgeable about Egyptian? Matteo
  17. I looked at that section and I see one individual and two groups of people who entered the celestial kingdom without post-death (proxied) ordinances. Verses 5-6 - Alvin - he received no baptism. Verses 7-8 - Those who had died prior to this revelation and who die from this point onwards will be heirs in that kingdom if they had not heard the gospel while alive. "All who have died without a knowledge of this gospel, who would have received it if they had been permitted to tarry". Verse 10 - Children who died before the age of accountability. Matteo
  18. Servants to whom?
  19. I believe all saved people with reside with Christ in his kingdom. I do not think our saved family and friends will be separated from each other.
  20. I looked at Doctrine and Covenants 138 and verse 10 says "For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit". This appears to be the same description given to those who inherit a terrestrial glory in Doctrine and Covenants 76:71-73 - "And again, we saw the terrestrial world, and behold and lo, these are they who are of the terrestrial, whose glory differs from that of the church of the Firstborn who have received the fulness of the Father, even as that of the moon differs from the sun in the firmament. Behold, these are they who died without law; And also they who are the spirits of men kept in prison, whom the Son visited, and preached the gospel unto them, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh". Is there a reference to show proxied work elevates someone into the celestial kingdom? Matteo
  21. What types or degrees of salvation are available to those on whom the proxied work is performed for in the spirit world and can you provide references? Matteo
  22. If people who don't inherit the telestial or terrestrial kingdoms are not mentioned in those verses then it appears that the people who are appointed angels in service to the gods are those in the celestial kingdom who did not get exalted.
  23. 1 Nephi 2:23 writes "For behold, in that day that they shall rebel against me, I will curse them even with a sore curse, and they shall have no power over thy seed except they shall rebel against me also". I looked at the footnotes but do not see the first time Laman and Lemuel rebel against Nephi and are cursed or what that curse is. Does anyone know? Matteo
  24. Are the people who are appointed angels in verses 16-17 members of the telestial and terrestrial kingdoms or are they solely members of the two lower divisions of the celestial? Matteo
  25. I do not understand this commandments part. 1 Nephi 3:16 says "Wherefore, let us be faithful in keeping the commandments of the Lord; therefore let us go down to the land of our father's inheritance, for behold he left gold and silver, and all manner of riches. And all this he hath done because of the commandments of the Lord". Which commandments of the Lord pertain to Lehi and which pertain to Nephi in the above verse? 1 Nephi 4:17 says "And again, I knew that the Lord had delivered Laban into my hands for this cause— that I might obtain the records according to his commandments"? Which commandments were given to Nephi about the records? Matteo
