I just got home from meeting with the missionaries. They gave me their testimony and I explained to them my problems and issues. They were nothing but open and honest. They answered my questions 100% truthfully. I thank them for that and I must say I have a great deal of respect for them. I feel a sense of peace now since I met with them. I have a new found respect for this church and gospel. They challenged me to pray and read the Book of Mormon and I am going to take that challenge and meet with them again later in the week to let them now how it is going. The only problem we had was somebody in the booth behind us was mocking us the whole time and making comments about the Book of Mormon. Thank you all for being so patient and understanding with me. To anyone who would like to know my journey I would love to keep all of you informed.

Today I will be meeting with the missionaries. I am taking them out to dinner and hopefully I can get some of my questions about the church openly and honestly. I will let you know how it goes to those who are interested.

Tithing also teaches us to live responsibly?

I'm a little confused. If you pay tithing...How do the windows of heaven open up and bless you?

I know I've been very anti-Mormon on this board and I feel really bad for it. It always seems every time I think I have left this church for good, something keeps drawing me back.

Why would the church go through all the hassle of excommunicating someone who is inactive?

My favorite is the Mesa, AZ temple. Very beautiful indeed. Especially at night.

What issues could I have more than Joseph marrying a 14 year old and not believing?

If it is a polite reminder to tell you to vote against same-sex marriage, in my opinion that is the church getting involved in politics. Why is it the church can't let 2 people who love each other be together? What about straight marriages that last for a short time. Example, Brittany Spears 1st marriage? That lasted a few days. Isn't that a threat against marriage, since the church does not believe in divorce.

I think my big problem with Joseph is the polygamy issue, the fact that he married a 14 year old(Hellen Kimble). I just can't get over that.

Since when is homosexuality a lifestyler? Isn't being a heterosexual a lifestyle? People do not choose to be gay. It is as much a person as it is anyone's eye color, or skin color.

All that really matters is that he loves you and you love him. I say if you love each other and make each othert happy then go for it.

Homosexual marriage will cause the downfall of society. Well it certainly hasn't caused the downfall of society in Europe and Canada. Big deal if they marry. Their marriages do not effect anyone else.

So you are saying reading negative stuff can hurt one's spiritual growth in the church and hurt their testimony?

30 minutes of being on the computer per day? Who are they to tell you what you can and can't do with your life?

I remember back a few years ago when I was a member, there was talk of putting a gambling casino around the area I live in. The bishop read a letter from the President of the church and Stake President urging people to vote no on the ballot to veteo the casino that was coming into the area because gambling is wrong and destroys families. Now to me, that is getting involved in politics.

Seapration of churh and state, doesn't the church have that problem by telling their members to veto this and veto that by letters to it's members? Hello!

He received a letter that says he was going to have a hearing or "court of love." I thought according to US Law he as the right at any trial or court, no matter what he is allowed legal representation. Sorry, but I think the US Law prevails in this one.

This may seem like a stupid question. I know someone who is going to a court of love to be excommunicated. Now then, since this is supposedly a court, he wants to take a lawyer to represent himself, since he would be the only one there to represent himself. Does he have the right to take a lawyer there since it will be just himself vs the entire church? In my opinion, I think he does.

In all my years of paying tithing the only thing I experienced was less income.

What would I have to gain out of reading the Book Of Mormon? When I did read it I never got anything out of it. I read, and prayed but yet never felt that "spirit".

I am a former member of the church. It just seems like every mormon is answer is because "they are called from god." I don't hear that small voice, I never did.
