  2. He has the authority to receive revelation on behalf of you, so if anyone can help you, your bishop can.
  3. i check my mail without a jacket or shoes all the time..of course it never gets very cold in vegas....
  4. I'm pretty sure you wont regret getting one. Its really handy to have. whenever i feel directionless in life, i pull it out and even if it doesnt give me in great detail a direction, it helps to reassure me that i will be able to take whatever life has to offer. In short, a patriarchal blessing is a great thing to have.
  5. wow i had never thought about that before. sounds pretty bleak. thats whats great about the plan of salvation though
  6. if fact, it says the less perfect we are te more we need to attend. "When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance." If any one looks down on you for being at church while not doing everything perfectly, they do not understand the teachings of our Savior.
  7. i think if we see someone asking for money, we shouldnt automatically judge. God will bless us for it, regardless of what the recipients do with the money. and who knows, maybe they really need help and the spirit directed you there to help them
  8. mine is to keep my house clean for longer than 2 days
  9. Life is a body of water. Soothing to dip in feet, but dangerous when one gets in over his head.

  11. I believe it human nature to become depressed when bad things happen. As others have said, trials are for a purpose and ultimately help to shape us into a better person. We need to prepare for these trials so that they don't make us depressed. (The first presidency is constantly telling us to get a one year food supply. I wonder if it is possible for a spiritual one year supply?) I think the ultimate goal is to learn to take trials in stride. remember that the savior suffered all that we have suffered. all our pains and depressiona and everything, all so that he can truly understand how we feel. I think if we try not to let ourselves get into such a depressed state (i know this cant always be controlled), it will in some way be helping the saviour, just as a sin not committed is one less than the saviour had to atone for. I dont know if that made much sense, but my point is to try to see the bright side even if it may be difficult. Heavenly Father just wants for us to be happy after all.
  12. Why do you say a Super Nova is not "normal"? What is a "normal star"?This is nothing "abnormal" about Super Novas, and it is misleading to say so. Elphaba I agree. But as such, I believe that God works with actual principles to work his miracles, as opposed to some mysterious use of magic. He knows the properties of everything so well he can manipulate things to his will, and still be scientifically sound.
  13. I'm still pretty new here but i have enjoyed every minute. Every one is so friendly. I stumbled across this site about a month ago in my search for different thoughts and ideas about the LDS religion, and most of my searches werre filled with blatantly biased information against the church. Here I can talk to people who don't believe and not start an argument. My experience here has served to strengthen my testimony greatly.
  14. maybe its cuz im so young but i still enjoy how the grinch stole christmas. its a tradition to watch it in my family. I also really enjoy the christmas carol. really great movies.
  15. I think seeing the resurrected Christ would be one of the best things we could ever experience and that we should all try to live worthily to be able to see him. I do not think it is a common occurence though. Out of all the people on earth, there are probably not very many that are worthy to see him. And out of those few there are yet fewer for whom it is expediant to see the Christ. I think it is human nature to be disbelieving, especially when there is no immediate physical evidence to prove otherwise. And it is human nature to get jealous of someone who has had better opportunities than us, but by know means should we give into these temptations. I think it is perfectly reasonable that Christ has seen it expediant to show himself to people, and who are we to judge?
  16. Congrats! I hope you have a wonderful time on your mission. Best of luck!
  17. I think many of tend to forget Christ and everything He has done for us. Any event that stirs us back to remembrance of Him, if only for a little while, is a good thing in my opinion, even if from pagan origins.
  18. That is true. I have a friend who was recently baptized, but is in a different ward than me. I find him asking me to come to church with him because he doesnt know anyone else.
  19. Wow I imagine it would be a little stressful being the presidents bishop... good thing I dont have to worry about it. :)
  20. God is a loving God, and loves us so much, he wants the best for us, and for us to be the best we can be. This is why he gives us commandments. By following his commandments we become better people. We know we can follow the prophets' advice, because they only state the will of God, though we must pray and ask God ourselves, of course. (D&C 1:38 "What I the Lord have spoken, I have spoken, and I excuse not myself; and though the heavens and the earth pass away, my word shall not pass away, but shall all be fulfilled, whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same. ") He is also a just God. In alma 42:13 it says "Now the work of justice could not be destroyed; if so, God would cease to be God." Laws, if broken, need consequences, or techniquely there is no law, meaning no justice, and hence no God. Since God is a just God, He needs enforce these laws. He will not force us to abide by his commandments, no matter how much he wants us to be with Him. Forcing is Satan's plan. He has granted us the atonement with which we can recieve mercy. Basically, it is up to us if we want to follow God or not, and if we haven't been, it is never too late to repent and begin. On the matter of all the people that have gone before us, Temples will be open 24/7 during the millenium for the salvation of the dead. God knows about those who have not had the chance to visit the temple, and cares about them as much as you or me. During the millenium, everyone who wants their work done will have that opportunity. (That doesn't mean we don't need to do temple work, however. Temple work is a commandment. D&C 127:4 "And again, verily thus saith the Lord: Let the work of my temple, and all the works which I have appointed unto you, be continued on and not cease; and let your diligence, and your perseverance, and patience, and your works be redoubled, and you shall in nowise lose your reward, saith the Lord of Hosts. And if they persecute you, so persecuted they the prophets and righteous men that were before you. For all this there is a reward in heaven." I hope this helps :)

    Hi

Hello. My name is Zac. I'm a 17 year old member from Las Vegas Nevada. Many of my friends are not LDS, so I just wanted a means to discuss doctrine with others
