  1. Well, I’m the house “liberal” and my heart breaks for your story, but I’m not surprised. I’ve said it here recently several times because it’s absolutely right. It a ward starts to exclude others, it’ll eventually exclude those who agree totally with it’s teachings. The revolution came for Robespierre too. Again, your story breaks my heart. From the exclusion to the ridiculous restraining order, it’s just so sad.
  2. @The Folk Prophet-who I don’t know offline either (and both of us are much happier due to that) is no left winger.
  3. By “chuckle” I think you mean “side splitting laughter.” Want an ACLU card? I can send you a pamphlet.
  4. The “restraining order” thing bothers me because it’s SO nasty and frankly, sort of ridiculous. Unless @old was threatening violence or something it’s totally uncalled for.
  5. The Catholics say the same thing about their numerous sex scandals.
  6. Can you explain it nice and simple so someone of my meager intellectual capabilities can grasp it?
  7. Just to be clear, you are saying that members should suck it up and deal if the church swings to being pro gay marriage or embraces other “progressive” ideals. Am I understanding that?
  8. It’s good to keep some perspective here. Absolutely no one outside of the 20+ regular posters cares what the jury of third hour says about them.
  9. We’re two SEC boys bro. We hold NFL teams in low regard!
  10. To be fair, @JohnsonJones is a southerner. When we say “college sports is our religion” we are not kidding. My pic here for almost a decade was the University of Florida Gator, after all! It goes beyond sports. The school with the best drama program? Yup, we think it’s the Gators too. I think the issue here is a lack of communication.
  11. Call it my “Mockingbird” sense of humanity but people LOVE being part of mobs.
  12. Would this one work? https://www.ratemyprofessors.com
  13. Dude I am so sorry this is happening to you. I have no advice, just know I’m praying for you and your family.
  14. Dude whenever I make bets with my friends I make them donate to political causes they hate. It’s delicious to make your socialist friend donate to the Ayn Rand Institute!
  15. A former bishop said it best. Paraphrasing, but at the end of the day we’ll be shocked who hasn’t achieved eternal glory-but we’ll be really shocked to see who has.
  16. I totally agree with you I’m placing bets that within 25 years the right wing will leave the church over it’s “liberal” tendencies. We saw some of it happening during the pandemic when the church came out with their teachings on masks and vaccines. It was fascinating to me then, it’s fascinating to me now. Those who scream at you to “Follow the prophet” don’t follow their own advice if the Prophet says something they disagree with.
  17. It amazes me how each ward can be so different from the others.
  18. @JohnsonJones-I know nothing about the European educational system, but I’ve heard they are much more “harsh” than we are in the states. No room for “incomplete” and no mercy for those struggling in classes or having personal trouble. Is that true or have I been misinformed?
  19. Slightly off topic-what @zil2 said is very true for those who already have an established community and circle of friends. If you don’t gel with the local ward (or LDS culture in general) and you get your social needs met elsewhere, it becomes incredibly hard to participate in your local ward. Even if you believe in all the teachings! While it would be naive to think you’ll become bff’s with everyone in your ward, you absolutely need someone in there to connect with. Don’t ever doubt the social aspect of church.
