No, but I'm encouraged by this "Uncommitted" fellow that's rising up the Dem ranks. I have a feeling he's going to wallop Dean Phillips in Dean's home state next week.

It’s astounding when you think about it. You and I are both history buffs @Just_A_Guy. (You because you lived through most events. French Revolution, Peasant Revolt of 1381). For arguably the first time in American politics a political campaign openly wants to destroy bridges instead of building them. Wow.

Never fear.  I was told back in 2016 that Trump would do just fine without my fuddy-duddy preening about such irrelevant minutiae as “right and wrong” and “honesty” and “civic virtue” and “values” and “having a president who is not a recidivist credibly-accused thief and rapist”.
    They didn’t want my support.
    They didn’t need my support.
They did fine in 2016, they did fine in 2020, they’ll do fine in 2024.
    They’re fine.
    Everything’s fine.
    Fine!

Welcome to my world. I always viewed myself as a Goldwater conservative but now I’m viewed as a “moderate” or “democrat”  because, like you, I feel we should support the Ukraine, Israel, etc. And I don’t dig conspiracies or worship god-emperor Trump.
Enjoy the ride @prisonchaplain. Develop a thick skin, expect to encounter a TON of hate from Trumpers and enjoy the show.
Also, it helps out tremendously to have friends who you can have in depth conversations with. Sadly, a lot of “people you see at church friendships” are a mile wide and inch deep. One disagreement and boom-you never hear from them again
As a pastor people depend on you. You need someone to rely on too.  Go out and form friendships with people who aren’t like that.

I used to think of myself as a constitutional conservative too.  I still do, even though folks' opinions about me change.
My counsel is to grab on to the 2nd great commandment with all your heart and strength, and do whatever politics it compels you to do, no matter what people think of you.

I have a fantasy that involves Trump, Biden and CONTROL-ALT-DELETE. Then I wake up to a Dystopian world in which these two are the main candidates for POTUS. I used to call myself a conservative. Now I am moderately so. I really haven't changed, but the world and the Republicans have. For example, I believe that the US should support Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. We should counter Chinese ambitions. I used to be considered a bit of a hawk and an anti-communist. Now, Trump and Tucker label me a globalist and say that folks like me (well, Ben Shapiro to be honest) don't love America. Of course, the alternative is Biden and Harris. So, I'm at a loss. Any counsel?

The Democrats are becoming the Republicans. Who wants to support Ukraine? Israel? Who's attacking Anti-Communists for not loving America (Tucker Carlson)? Next thing you know, Democrats will be demonstrating to RE-fund the police. When they do, I may switch parties.

You ask someone where their food comes from.
    They say the grocery store.
You ask where the grocery store gets their food from.
They either can't answer you or think it just shows up there.
That's the kind of ignorance I'm talking about, people who have never even considered life outside of their little bubble, let alone expressed any desire to set foot outside of it.

It's been my experience that such individuals who "know" so much about the rest of the world have rarely, if ever, actually left their tiny little bubble within their large, usually coastal, city.
...And whenever someone calls them out on it, they have some excuse for having never left.

Agreed.  And not only that, but the extremes seem to point at their counterpart on the other side when they're looking to get offended.
Antifa and the QAnon people pay attention to and fight each other.
Conservatives and Liberals stoke outrage by pointing to what the other one is doing.
Democrats and Republicans spend a lot of time criticizing the other.
Socialists and Capitalists attack each other and defend their own.
I'm still of the opinion that my various opinions and principles which make me who I am, are more correct than those with whom I argue.  But boy howdy does the whole human experience look an awful lot like this:

Well, to be sure, this is hardly a phenomenon from the right.  It's not uncommon for me to hear my woke millennial buddies, talking about how grateful they are to live in Portland or Seattle or Cali, where people who actually care about humans are in charge, and good sane progressive policies are more abundant.  They roll their eyes at Texas and Florida, wondering aloud what must be wrong with people to go live in those barbaric spaces, where the people and the government hates the rainbow and women.  They're enthusiastic about Colorado, which seems to be pulling itself out of it's history of white colonization.  (This is a rough summary of their comments over a few years on the topic, and yes, I've seen eye rolls.)

I totally agree with you, and to me that’s more evidence that the extremes of both sides are filled with the same types of people.

Many, many years ago a very good friend of mine had an abortion. She was a girl i used to hang out with a lot (not a girlfriend) and we used to watch movies together and eat pizza, and I'd go to her apartment to keep her company when she was feeling down. (And no I wasn't the father, in case you were wondering.) She didn't tell me about the abortion until afterwards, which in some ways was a good thing, because had I known I would have pulled out every stop to talk her out of it - including offering to pay for the child's upbringing myself. My own family would have then called me an idiot, but I know what I'd have told them: "All death diminishes me for I am involved in mankind" (which I've probably misquoted). As it was, all I could do was try to be supportive of her. Anything else would not have brought the baby back.

I came in late to the conversation, but here goes:
The basic takeaways I've been getting from the Church on these controversial issues are:
    *Be kind to everybody
*Witness where/to whom you feel comfortable
*Worry about your own temple worthiness and let the leaders worry about others
    ZealouslyStriving (Mosiah 27:35)

IF they do the same as you say, it will look a lot different.  As you said, Antifa and BLM love to burn and destroy.  That won't look anything like the J6 crowd and talk about respecting law and order would be a very different conversation.

Okay, reading various news feeds and stumble across this on Yahoo News.
Jack Posbiec calls for the end of Democracy at CPAC
WHAT IN THE WORLD IS THIS!!!!
I immediately tried to find a conservative slant or report on this as I can't believe this story has the entire context of what was being said.  If it is...what in the world!!!???
Certainly there had to be an uproar in the audience shouting down such a statement?
I can't believe ANYONE in US politics would say something like this and get away with it!?
Something is seriously wrong with the party if they are having speakers that are allowed to say such things without a TON of pushback and then proclamations against such statements if the article states it in context (I can't believe it is saying all there is, there HAS to be more context to this type of statement than what the article shows...I can't find it though...hopefully someone here can find it where it doesn't sound as bad as it is made out to sound in the article).
