  1. Would I? I don't think my wife or the Church would like me dating a male investigator even if I did wait until he was baptized.
  2. That's our spot, we inherited it after the family that used to sit there moved out of the Ward. Seriously though, there are less distractions up there (Front center row is used for a couple of deaf people we have that are signed to.)
  3. I've seen people in wheelchairs there before.
  4. DW and I always kiss before she goes off to teach Primary and I go to class. -- No tongue though.
  5. I personally don't believe this is a sin, however since its bothering you please do see your Bishop.
  6. Cash or check whatever is easiest -- as a former Ward clerk (years ago) I personally preferred seeing a check in the tithing envelope rather than having a lot of cash to take to the bank. 10% of your increase is what the Brethern state and refuse to define it further. No one is authorized to tell you what that is, though many will try. Arguments have been made for: Gross, Net and money left over systems. I recommend that you pray about it and come up with what you and God agree upon as an honest tithe.
  7. Me - George Wendt (Norm on Cheers) or John Candy (alive of course) DW - Sigourney Weaver
  8. Adoption through LDS Social Services costs you 10% of a years income - a tithe You also need to both have a Temple recommend
  9. Giving up something permanently is a hard thing to do so try this: Decide today that you will give it up for today -- one day is easy, right? Tomorrow you can decide if you want to give it up for 1 day too, and so on-- One day at a time.
  10. Smilies added by me: I agree with 1 and 2 wholeheartedly but 3 is not quite true (Been doing IT Support for 15 years now.) Clear your Temp files, make sure your cache is small (20-40 mb) unless you are on dial up still. Find the caches and delete all contents. (Tell me what browser you use and I can tell you where its at) Run Malwarebytes as suggested above. The free version only (read it as its installing) Open your Task Manager, go to the performance tab and see what your CPU usage is like - if nothing is running should be between 1 and 5% see what percentage of physical memory that is (if over 50% consider installing more RAM)
  11. DW and I are in our 50's and childless (medical reasons too) -- its hard in a family centered Church, for years we would not go to Church on Mothers Day, then she was called to teach in the Primary and suddenly she has kids depending on which year from 5 - 8 of them - she started with Sunbeams 4 years ago. Its really helped. If you are planning on adopting, I would do it soon, I think LDS adoptions stop accepting you at age 40 (at least they used to - that may have changed)
  12. Google is your friend and knows all: "Expect to pay 12.0 hours max on labor, and around $300 for gaskets and head bolts." and another says "Typical Repair Cost: $2,000.00" Depends on if that is all it is or if they "find' other things - hopefully you know an honest mechanic.
  13. Birth Control pills do not prevent conception, they prevent the attachment of the potential baby to the lining of the womb and thus in the broadest sense could be considered an abortion. What was passed (the so-called Obama care) is nothing more than a bonus to insurance companies that does not come close to providing health insurance for all Americans. Unless/Until we have Universal Single Payer healthcare (like Canada's Provinces or England) we will not have total coverage.
  14. Yeah, I realized that and removed the end point -- I'm a bit slow at times - hey I'm getting old, what can I say.
  15. So if its already a weapons free zone, why have the secret service there at all? Obviously the fact that its a 'Weapons Free zone" is good enough for our children - right?
  16. So the average teacher makes that, which includes those just starting out in the field with no experience and people with 20 (or more) years in.
  17. Low pay?!?! my SIL just retired from teaching elementary school at age 55 with 20 years in getting her pension after working 10 months a year and she was making at the end over 70K. Her pension is plenty to live on even though she has a house payment, she still goes on 4 or 5 good vacations a year (cruises and out of country vacations)
  18. If you are against teachers being allowed to carry guns in school if they desire (and are trained and licensed) would you then be for declaring that a 1 mile radius around the President to be a weapon free zone and laying off/transferring all secret service agents protecting him? If not, why not? Is he more valuable to you that your own child is? This is a serious question I have for all those opposing teachers being allowed to carry, I really would like to hear your answer.
  19. I am all for training and arming any teacher that wants to carry, I am also for allowing any teacher to not carry who does not want to. The bad guys won't know who is and who is not carrying.
  20. A flood was coming and the family listened to the radio warning everyone to evacuate - but the husband said "God will provide" and they stayed. The floods raged and a rescue boat came by to save the family, but the husband said "God will provide" and they stayed. The floods rose so high that they could only survive by getting on the roof of the house, a helicopter came by to fly them to safety but the husband said "God will provide" and they stayed. The family all drowned, in Heaven the man came up to God and said "I believed and trusted in you, why didn't you save us?" God said "I gave you a warning, a boat and a helicopter; what else did you want?" - - - God gave us the medical ability to to fix whatever you have wrong -- what else do you want? None of us like surgery, but its saved my life a couple of times this decade. Thank God I live in these later days as even 100 years ago I'd be dead.
  21. It seems like if your husband were really trying to work on his marriage he would go to counseling with you -- even if you really are too sensitive, it would still help for him to go with you. Please keep in mind its really hard for us to judge the actual situation by a few posts on the internet however if I believed my wife was having problems/issues I would want to do whatever I could to help her and if that included going to counseling with her I certainly would do so.
  22. Have you gone to couples counseling? perhaps LDS Social Services? Frankly some people are abusive (both men and women) AND Some people are too sensitive (both men and women) Can people change? Yes Are all marriages saveable? -- If both people want to save it and actively work to do so.
  23. Just to put your mind at ease, Missionaries are not pushy like car salesmen: they will ask you if you want to be baptized, but their primary duty is to teach you and let you decide for yourself. The missionaries have a series of lessons that help you learn more about the Church and our beliefs, they will invite you to Church, and assuming you go will sit with you, and take you to the Gospel Principles Sunday School class - which is the Sunday School class for investigators and new converts -- depending on the Ward (congregation/Parish) you will likely meet other people that are taking a look at the Church and people who have recently joined.
  24. Hyena I am a convert of almost 20 years now and you are correct, it was like coming home and relearning principles I had forgotten. I have not read the entire thread yet but Home teachers come over once a month with a short gospel lesson and some fellowshipping and to see how you're doing and answer any questions. They are neither your bosses, your Priest nor anything else other than fellow servants of God. Within a couple months of your baptism you will be assigned with an experienced member to go out and Home Teach 2-5 families. Becoming LDS is a lifestyle rather than a once a week thing. The amazing thing I saw about Mormons before I joined was that most of them actually tried to live their beliefs 24/7 (being human they failed in one way or another but they kept trying)
  25. Bini I was 50 before I was first put out for surgery and the idea was a bit scary - it worried me more than the surgery -- but there was nothing to it. The anesthesiologist will put something into your IV and then you wake up in the recovery room all done. Nothing easier and nothing to worry about.
