That is predicated on the person living so that he can hear the Spirit, and actually listening to the Spirit. Bishops don't automatically know everything when they are set apart, they are just men like any other. Nevertheless, talking to your Bishop is good advice, he can usually point you towards some good resources.

A few posters in trying to further define tithing, go further than the brethern do. That's a dangerous thing to do. Again, what is official is the below: Emphasis is mine.

Exactly Episodes 1-3 were terrible stories. and his going back and changing 4-6 to fit the 1-3 story line is just wrong.

Turned off the lights and watched TV -- we don't participate in Halloween. Not that I think its evil, I'm just cheap.

If this is Gods Church and if it has living Prophets then tithing is a Covenant we have made with God. If its just a place to spend 3 hours on Sundays instead of sleeping in or watching football, then tithing is just another way to get rid of your money. You choose.

Why Mormon?
mnn727 replied to tektronik's topic in Learn about The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints
The Coffee/Tea ban comes from our code of health (called the Word of Wisdom). We LDS are a Covenant people, we Covenant with God to do or not do certain things, that's one. But as skippy740 said: If/When you have a testimony from God that He wants you in this Church, then following those Covenants will not be a burden. -
Why Mormon?
mnn727 replied to tektronik's topic in Learn about The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints
1. After reading all this, do you think it's possible for me to become a respectable Mormon? Its possible for anyone to become a respectable Mormon(or anything else) if they really want to. 2. What makes you believe in your religion? I studied and prayed for a long time before deciding that God was real and this was the Church for me. In the end it was prayer that got me the confirmation. 3. Do the leaders of your church believe some things are open to interpretation? Some things yes, other things no 4. Is it possible to be a part of the church without necessarily believing everything? I certainly hope so, cause that's my position and I've been LDS for almost 20 years now The so-called "evidence" that god does exist is based on religious premises instead of facts, while the "evidence" that god doesn't exist is trying to prove that a specific religion didn't get the story right (Earth is billions of years old vs 6000). There is nothing concrete for either side to argue. It's based on beliefs and faith. We don't believe the Earth is 6000 years old (some members may but as a religion we don't) But does your doctrine require you to believe the words from the Bible and Book of Mormon word for word? No, while we do believe the Bible and Book of Mormon are inspired by God we also know translations have changed meanings, and that they are open to interpretation My problem with this is that if God is directing every event, does free will truly exist? We believe Free Will (or Agency) is one of the main laws of God perhaps the highest law -- or to borrow an old Star Trek term; its the 'Prime Directive' Wipe your brain clean of any pre-conceived notions you had of what Christians believe (like the earth is only 6000 years old). More than likely, they're not quite true or not necessary for faith. Good advice -- we're not your typical Christian Denomination - in MY PERSONAL opinion, we're the only one that makes sense. -
I think you need to examine what I actually posted as your response was off base for what I posted.

Why not just ask for donation rather than selling something most people don't want at a price much higher than they could buy it for -- I hate schools doing fundraisers -- ask for cash outright, I'll be happy to donate, or put it into the budget which is where it should be in the first place.

If you have 0 income, you pay 0 tithing but are considered a full tithe payer. Your Bishop will tell you this.

Until the Sons of Levi make an offering in righteousness...
mnn727 replied to a topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
I researched this extensively in the past and that is what I came up with also. I wish I would have saved my results so I could offer my proofs, but it was just intellectual curiosity at the time. -
You really need to talk with a professional about this behavior (ie psychologist, etc) or at least a school counselor (if you're still in school) Your body is a Temple, would you take a hammer and chisel to a Temple wall?

mnn727 replied to deborashaw18's topic in Marriage and Relationship Advice
Have you asked him directly for a referral to LDS Social Services. In other words have you said "Bishop, will you give me a referral to LDS Social Services please?" (I assume there is one in your area) -
Which is actually the answer

Is 12 years old too old to be trick or treating?
mnn727 replied to Carl62's topic in General Discussion
Fall festival/Trunk or Treat would be ok, Going out extorting people for candy door to door -- its too old. -
There is no such thing as a Temple Divorce! Temples are about joining people together, not splitting them up Having said that you can get a cancellation of sealing. Not sure if the First Presidency will grant one for this reason, unless there is a whole lot more to the story than just 'having nothing in common'. Why'd you get married in the first place if you have nothing in common?
-
Wow, you actually feel that way?

NeverEndingStory. Unfortunately I don't have any advise for you. I am sorry you are going through this, I have had a number of SSA and openly gay/lesbian friends including my sister-in-law and understand its not easy, I doubt that there are any easy answers for you, but you still are a beloved child of God -- don't forget that. You have challenges I'll never know, but we all do have our own personal challenges, and can all rise above them or give into them. I wish you well.

I am pretty sure to Noah, it appeared to be a world-wide flood. After all he could not turn on the Weather channel and see the world forecast. I believe something happened, but not a worldwide flood. (meteor/comet strike, etc) I take much of Genesis as more of a primitive people trying to understand the world around them. It was after all an oral history for a couple thousand years before it was written down, so who knows?

North Dallas 'burbs. Lots of LDS here (though nowhere near Utah). I live 2 blocks from the Stake Center. Great Ward. It does get a bit warm here in the summer but that's the 2 months we pay for to have great temps the rest of the year. If it snows its usually melted the next day, one year out of the last 12 we've been here the snow lasted 5 days, then the temps went back up to the usual 50's (usual for January). I figure 2 months of air conditioning are better than 5 months of heating. And you don't have to shovel heat.

Can a Man be Happily Married to a Fat Woman?
mnn727 replied to tumbledquartz's topic in Marriage and Relationship Advice
I have not read every post, but the real questions is; Why would a woman put up with a man who was like that? -
Tell him next time to have a Coke or Pepsi and leave it at that.

Not necessarily true, Both DW and I are diabetic and sugar in moderation, balanced with proteins are not bad for you. Now if you tell me you sit down and eat a box of candy bars or drink a case of regular (non-diet) soda - that's a whole different case.
