  1. We find it funny that a guy (Programmer) at our company is in the same ward as our head IT guy. He was hired before I was around, but we know he really isn't that good. Probably for what he is getting paid. But because they are in the same ward we know he will probably never get let go.
  2. I'm not sure what you want to do? You want to find the person that did it and do what? So if you find out some distance relative did it, then what? It is a good think they have the Gospel now right?
  3. One night when I was like 13 or 14 I was just hungry and wanted something to fill me up. I really don't know how I came up with it. I grabbed some wheat bread and started to put peanut butter on both sides. I then grabbed some Graham crackers broken them up so each side would get some. I then grabbed a velveeta cheese slice. Put that on there. Closed the sandwich and kind of smash it together. Every so often I make it.
  4. Just ask the Bishop... I doubt he would have a problem with you recording just your own talk. But also be prepared for him to say No.
  5. Are you trying to get food storage for just you, or for your whole family. (i assume you would still want to feed them). I had put off getting some food storage for 2 or more years after buying a house. I have the room but not really the no how. I found this site. Wise Food Storage - Emergency, Long Term, and Camping Meals I don't really know how good of food they have (haven't tried it) but it was a good place for me to start. So you can buy a month supply 4 weeks for 1 person or 1 week for 4 people. With it just being me. I thought it was a good place to start. I probably buy something like this ever so often to get some stalk up.
  6. I think Iron Man 3 sines a lot better after watching Superman or I guess Man of Steal. Overall Superman was a fine movie, but 3/4 the way through the movie I realize I hadn't laughed maybe once. Iron Man 3 is a lot more witty (which is Tony Stark). I think to have a good movie you need that. With that said I don't think I have laughed much in any of Christopher Nolan's movies. But maybe with a new guy doing both Batman/Superman teamup movie coming in 2015 It might have some laughs.
  7. I think the points made are valid. I have always believed that John... like the 3 Nephiest actually were taken from the earth. Moroni says this. I take this that the earth had gotten so wicked that really there was no point in letting them (John and the three Nephites) stay. Now I also believe they came back probably before or around the time of the Restoration.
  8. These are both pretty broad statements, that without more clarification its not understood. The scripture is. D&C 131 1-3 1 In the celestial glory there are three heavens or degrees; 2 And in order to obtain the highest, a man must enter into this order of the priesthood [meaning the new and everlasting covenant of marriage]; 3 And if he does not, he cannot obtain it. So like it was pointed out, this is the law that has to be followed. Single people that know this commandment will be held to it. We take that scripture with what Prophets have taught like Pres Ezra Taft Benson. I also recognize that not all women in the Church will have an opportunity for marriage and motherhood in mortality. But if those of you in this situation are worthy and endure faithfully, you can be assured of all blessings from a kind and loving Heavenly Father—and I emphasize all blessings. To the Single Adult Sisters of the Church - general-conference Now Mix-faith marriages would be different. I guess if they knew about the commandment in D&C then they would be held accountable to it. If they didn't, maybe the second would come into play a little bit. But really to receive the highest degree a couple would need to be sealed. (no more mix faith marriage). Again we need to explain how this would happen. The only way for a person who has never been a member (in this life) to get to the celestial kingdom would be to accept the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the spirit world. Those that never heard the Gospel in this life while on earth will have the chance to accept it in the next life. They do have the chance to gain all the blessings. But for those that had the "chance" (It's up to God to decided that) but reject it in this life, and accept it in the spirit world do not go to the Celestial Kingdom. Again back to the scriptures. D&C 88 21-25 21 And they who are not sanctified through the law which I have given unto you, even the law of Christ, must inherit another kingdom, even that of a terrestrial kingdom, or that of a telestial kingdom. 22 For he who is not able to abide the law of a celestial kingdom cannot abide a celestial glory. 23 And he who cannot abide the law of a terrestrial kingdom cannot abide a terrestrial glory. 24 And he who cannot abide the law of a telestial kingdom cannot abide a telestial glory; therefore he is not meet for a kingdom of glory. Therefore he must abide a kingdom which is not a kingdom of glory. 25 And again, verily I say unto you, the earth abideth the law of a celestial kingdom, for it filleth the measure of its creation, and transgresseth not the law— Its actually pretty simple. If you want the Celestial Kingdom you need to keep the Celestial Law. If you can't keep the Celestial Law, then you get a lesser kingdom according to the Law you were able to keep. Now God does look at our heart and desires. If we desire the Celestial Kingdom and desire to keep a Celestial Law with all our heart, but if circumstances outside our control keep us from it, it won't be held against us. D&C 137 7 Thus came the voice of the Lord unto me, saying: All who have died without a knowledge of this gospel, who would have received it if they had been permitted to tarry, shall be heirs of the celestial kingdom of God; 8 Also all that shall die henceforth without a knowledge of it, who would have received it with all their hearts, shall be heirs of that kingdom; 9 For I, the Lord, will judge all men according to their works, according to the desire of their hearts. 10 And I also beheld that all children who die before they arrive at the years of accountability are saved in the celestial kingdom of heaven.
  9. Have you found some book that has some inconclusive evidence that God exists? That there is a Heaven? That Jesus Christ was the Son of God? That is the point of Religon and Faith. We have to take steps to build our Faith... How you ask, but following the words of Prophets (who probably have seen God and Jesus Christ). The Book of Mormon is the same way. Read it, how do you feel as you read it. What do you think the Spirit is trying to tell you? Pray about it... then you can come to know, just as I know the book is true. Thats enough evidence for me. There was this "guy" that preaches for 3 years, he healed the sick, he even raised the dead, but in the end they still rejected him. I'm sure you have read the first version. I suggest you read it again and pray about it. Again we have to build a foundation. Then the other little things aren't going to matter. Yes and no. Yes you can get to the Celestial Kingdom. But... the LDS church believes there are three sections in the Celestial Kingdom. THe highest is for those married in the temple. I think its still around 26 years old... you can only be a missionary once you have been a member for a year. I wouldn't wait! Prophets like Adam, Noah, Moses, Peter, James and John, Nephi, Alma, Mormon, and Moroni. Are all Men. Men can make mistakes. But Lord can make up for those mistakes. Prophet have a special calling that when they have the spirit of revelation. They really can't lead us astray. Something happen at some time, that Heavenly Father took the priesthood. We don't know the details. Yes and No. They can if they are members of the church and have a temple recommend. The requirements to enter the temple are the same for all. Assuming your family is not LDS, then no they wouldn't be able to. You could have a civil marriage when ever you want to. Do you come to church? Have you met with the Missionaries? I commend you on taking the steps you have so far. But we are talking about progression. Progression in this Mormon Cultural, but also Progressing towards Heavenly Father. There is only so much you can do on your own. So doesn't let that hold you back.
  10. As Sin is a Sin, and needs to be repented of. I would say each Sin it take individually...but that does kind of depend. I can only guess because your Stake President is the one you are working with. But you probably will have to delay things again. The point being is to show that you can keep the commandments. Satan on the other hand is trying everything he can to keep you from a mission.
  11. I guess you have seen the new IOS7... That will come to probably a couple of current phones and the new iphone. Apple - iOS 7 - Features I think apple knew it needed to do something... they hadn't done any really major update in a while. That could be. Considering the iphone 5 came out in September iPhone 5 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia They usually come out with the S model about 6 months after it. So they are past do. I doubt they will do three. Maybe two. There has been the rumor of a cheaper iphone for over a year now (a plastic version). I could see that. Thats actually what is hurting Apple. Pretty much every other phone maker is coming out with newer techie stuff. Apple was a head for so long they didn't really need to come out with new stuff... now they do. Is the iphone 4s not small enough? There are other phones you can buy? I'm an Android user... Nexus 4.
  12. Ok lets say you are on a Deserted Island... Okay you have your scriptures and manuals and all the normal stuff. But you could only take one talk, be it General Conference, BYU devotional talk or what ever other talk that has been published. You could only take one talk with you, which one would it be?
  13. Is it just me or don't we see that Pattern here? Marriage "challenges" comes when you stop going to the temple. Hmmmmm I wonder if that could be related? Do you read the scriptures? Have Family Home Evening? Pray? And you wonder where your testimony is gone too? I, like your Bishop, do believe you had a testimony at one time, you just need to find it again!
  14. I think so. Not only with Missionaries now spending some of their Morning time chatting with people that are interested. I think we see more and more data at our fingertips. --- I was back from my Mission about 6 months, I was till only working part time, and it was summer so I had time on my hands (Should have been looking for a wife more). So back then chat rooms were really big. I can't even remember how but I found this young Lady on line, we started to chat using ICQ. (the good old days). after about 4-6 months chatting The gospel came up more and more, and I sent her stuff. I ended up teaching/Typing pretty much all the discussions. After a year of her studying, she started to visit with the Missionaries. I flew out to KY to give her the Holy Ghost. With how small the ward was out there, they ended up just losing track of her. --- I'm able to download James E Talmage onto a tablet and read his books that way. Tablet and cell phones are nice but with out the internet they would really be what they are. --- That leads me to use the Church's Apps on my tablet. I don't take my physical scriptures to church anymore. There are some down sides. But being able to highlight scriptures, and make "notes", and even do scripture links that are all available in the cloud. That will be there forever, or until the second coming. Also Manuals and the ward directory is out there. --- I think we can see one thing Pres. Monson is pushing is using the internet. The down side ---People need more information to fill the pipe line. What I mean there are now a billion blogs out there. People need stuff to write about to keep people coming back, so people just copy other blog to "report" on stuff. The bad this is a lot of it is just supposition, or their own ideas. Some of this is needed, and is useful, but when people start taking ideas and then start reporting it as fact is gets crazy. So the church is out there more, but now you have to correct false data more often. But I do believe the Mormon church has finally become a main stream religion. ---Now people have to report on something that has gone viral. Probably 5 years ago you wouldn't hear about a lot of small things. But now because something goes viral, it makes that little thing big news. Even more it seems like people feel like they have to report on the viral item, even if they are two days late to the party. Its funny when a news radio station reports on something because it seems like they have to, or they aren't getting it right.
  15. Its your Dream, only you know what your dream means. But... Dreams tend to show what is on our minds. Did you have a chance to read the Book of Mormon any? I highly recommend it. Missionaries can seem pushy at times. But if you look at it from their point of view, they wouldn't push unless they felt you were ready, even if its just to the next step. I'm not sure which questions pushed you away? We all progress differently towards our Heavenly Father. He knows that. Actually as I was typing that, a scripture from the Book of Mormon came to me. In Mosiah 4:27 I know if you listen to the spirit, you can find what your Heavenly Father wants for you!
  16. You are in the Isaiah Chapters. I would take them slow... mostly don't try to figure out what everything is all at once. The footnotes at the bottom can help some (and even have references to scriptures in the Bible). But once you get out of Isiah, it gets even better, because Nephi then tells his version of what Isiah had (with some added stuff). Great stuff!
  17. I'm not sure if this is what you want... but Deseretbook has blue. DeseretBook.com - Bonded Leather Bible: Large, Indexed Blue by LDS Distribution Center I'm not seeing a Quad (all 4 books in one). Just the Bible and the Triple Is this the blue you are thinking of? I would get it indexed-- I assume that means having the tabs on the outside. I always loved them. I have the same blue ones. Sad they aren't making the blue ones anymore.
  18. If there is one think a message board likes its questions! Most of us have nothing else to do all day except wait for new questions and see who can be the first one to "answer" them.
  19. Yeah maybe they were breaking the rules technically. There was times on my mission we would visit somebody and the only other person there was a Woman. Its more try to find other ways of meeting. Either meet at a members house or even at the church.
  20. The Bishop is the local leader over a ward (a geographic boundary). The Bishop is one that runs the ward with callings to different members in the ward so the ward can function (help the members grow closer to Christ). Repentance is between you and your Heavenly Father (and Jesus Christ who preformed the Atonement to make it all happen). Most (smaller) things that you need to repent off is just between you and Heavenly Father. But sometimes when you break covenants made in the temple, or more serious sins you need extra help to get through them. The Bishop is there to help you over come these sins. If breaking covenants are involved then confessing them to a bishop is necessary to show that we want to repent. We have a scripture that says: 43 By this ye may know if a man repenteth of his sins—behold, he will confess them and forsake them. Its kind of like the catholic confession... but I'm only basing that on what I see on TV. If you feel the something isn't right with confessing to the bishop you can always take it up with the Stake President. The Stake President is Leader over the wards (usually 6-8 wards)
  21. The have a video of it before it happen wow. wow they have the phone call video
  22. I don't see why not. If the person has repented they get all the blessing restored. I guess the question is would the person be worthy to service as an apostle, and that question would be yes. Calling somebody, as it has been pointed out, is Up the Lord. Which the persons standings would be good.
  23. I only skimmed over most of the posts. Being older and gone to the temple many times, I have thought of my Sister in Law (three years now) that went to the temple when she was only 19. I don't think they go to the temple much. I'm pretty realistic in looking at things from the outside. So yes there are some things in the temple that do seem strange. But as I have gone back I find little things here and there, that might not really help me with my life or problems, but they do help me understand the Plan of Salvation and how Heavenly Father loves his Children. For me understanding the temple has come from the following: Wasn't it Pres Howard W. Hunter (maybe Pres. Benson) that said even in his old age that he was still learning things from the temple. The temple is made to be a place for continuous learning. Probably not long after going to the temple I remember hearing this quote by Brigham Young. On my mission I was on splits with another missionary. I remember us talking and he said he was taught before his Mission that Lehi's Dream was like the Endowment ceremony. I was like what ever! They are no where near the same thing. Pretty much every time I go to the temple I ponder what Lehi and Nephi saw... Really we are talking about a Journey. In Lehi's dream we are talking about a Journey from Darkness to the tree of life (which is the love of God). The Endowment ceremony is also a Journey of leaving the fallen world behind. (mabye the two aren't as far apart as I first thought) Every temple I have been to they have a beautiful Chandelier in the Celestial Room. I often wonder if what Nehi and Lehi saw was actually some type of Chandelier as the Tree of life (most Chandeliers have those hanging crystals that often look like hanging fruit). From now on with I see a Chandelier in the temple I think of the Tree of life! If you go to the Link of Elder Haights talk, I had the video/audio playing in the background as I typed this all up. He just said:
  24. Like it was just said you have to come to Christ yourself. Yes the Bishop, Stake President can walk you through the process of repentance. But you have feel that you have repented. Part of of that is feeling the spirit. Do you feel the spirit? Do you feel you can turn to Christ?
