LOL...those are great memories, and yes I remember them all..plus lots more from the 60's and 70's when I was a youngster...watching Wacky races, Top Cat, Pink Panther, The Banana Splits (might have got that one wrong!), and Sesame Street...Champion the Wonder Horse, Casie Jones...and more... My memories of days out with my family were those of walking over fields and moors, passing the coal 'slag heaps' and fishing in the streams, with our pet dog...and playing in the woods around Towneley Hall in Burnley, imagining all the ghosts that lived there and spooking myself about them...feeding the horses in the field at the top of our council estate, playing street games such as Hop Scotch and Queeni O Co-Co, who's got the ball? and such...wonderful, innocent days!

Snow, I started to attend the LDS church in 1978, when Spencer Kimball was president, and I remember being taught those things that you said he wrote about it being better to die defending your virtue than to allow the rapist to rape you, and survive...it was scary stuff! I didn't know it was from a book he'd written at the time, it was taught to me and my friends in the Sunday School part of the Sunday services as if it was the Church's beliefs...I still thought that was how the church viewed rape today...thanks for letting me know otherwise.

I often become confused with LDS references to the OT and the NT...as in the above...Fiannan mentions the Mosaic Law being replaced by the NT, then he goes on to defend a practice that he states 'the Prophets of the OT' took part in, as if that makes it right... How come this practice was not replaced by the laws of the NT and Jesus?

Sometimes some people cry without any control, and then feel embarrassed about it, because they know that they have cried at an inappropriate time, therefore I disagree with your belief that Maureen cries because she is assured that it is an appropriate response to something that gives her certain other emotions... To be more specific about the above, maybe Maureen does not feel it's appropriate to cry at some things which she cries over...I certainly do sometimes, therefore she is not crying because of feeling reassured that it is an appropriate response...

lol Maureen, thanks for your support... :)

A little less arrogance on the part of some posters might go a long way towards making this place more friendly again...

Have you tried going into your Profile settings, and taking out the tag line...at least for now...until somebody can ensure that it doesn't appear again, or find out who is doing it to you? Seems a bit of a childish thing to be doing to somebody's profile...but...

??? The condom of God??? Have I missed something? Btw, the way the Catholic Church does the Confirmation/Holy Communion bit now, is that the child is confirmed and then receives 1st Holy Communion within the same year...they decided that the children ought to have received confirmation of their faith prior to taking their sacraments...

Congratulations to you all, Maddie!!!
-
Fiannan...are you following the example of the family whose story you've just related? How many children are you up to now? Hope you've the means to take care of them all sufficiently!

Yeah...let's not forget that there are people out there with Dyslexia and stuff to cope with...no space for jokes!!!

You're welcome John...I just hope that your son and his wife manage to get their child baptised without any further hassle!

To be fair Snow...and believe me, I agree with you regarding questioning the validity of the Prophet's words...Thatonegirl, if I recall, is quite young...just late teens? Perhaps she doesn't feel that she could offer a more balanced argument, as she hasn't had the experiences yet that you have, to make her feel that strong...she might fear criticism? Good luck anyway, with your talk Thatonegirl...If you can dare to include some of Snow's arguments, then it would make for a more balanced talk...

Relkeel...I presume your enquiry is aimed at the Catholic church and its stance on Marriage and Baptism? I belong to the Roman Catholic faith...non practising...and was married in a registry office, as my husband to be wasn't Catholic...although they were considering allowing us to marry in Church after attending some classes...we just gave up on the idea of a Church Wedding cos it was too stressful for me in the end... Anyway, back to your question...Both my son and daughter were baptised R.Catholic, in spite of where we were married, and although the church offered to bless our marriage, if we wanted to, we chose not to have this blessing, and there was no question of them not allowing our children their baptisms...perhaps it's just the local priest who has his own 'code of conduct' for his parish? Perhaps your son and his wife should consult somebody else in their church?

Happy Birthday Heather...keep up the good work!!

I once had an experience with a near car accident... coming down a snowy hill... in the dark... and blizzardly condition... another car was coming up that same hill and because we couldn't see the lines on the road we ended up nearly fender to fender before we were even able to see each other... Then suddenly... there was like a warpping of the thing and within an instant or stalled stretched second... the other car and I were whipped into our proper lanes... without even turning my wheel... I didn't have time or presence of mind... we missed each other when it was impossible to do so... It was like I was seeing timed warped and stretched... in a sideward motion... I have always wondered what the other driver thought of that experience... ← God was driving the other car!!!! LOL... Sorry, only being facetious!!!

Marsha, your brother is in my thoughts... I wish him much comfort over the coming weeks... My thoughts about the USA private medicine system cannot be reprinted here...this is the time that we in the UK are so thankful for the NHS, in spite of all its faults...

http://religiousmovements.lib.virginia.edu...se/syllabus.htm Just found this article, which is for students' use when studying various 'new Religions' from the 19th Century...might find some interesting material in there, the ones names are familiar enough: Mormons, Pentecostals, Fundamentalism... Obviously I don't know how many of these religions have Leaders who have the same amount of written work as Joseph Smith...but will look into it if you wish...

I did a Google search for New Religions, 19th Century...and found many references...however 1 struck me as interesting...the Ba'hai Faith... Please see the following links for more info about them, and their leaders... http://www.bahai.org/features/intro http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baha%27i#The_B.C3.A1b I'm sure if I was to carry on with the Google search I would find references to other religions started in the 19th Century, but hope this suffices for now...
