Dear, dear, dear...it seems that we will have to go round and round in circles, and just keep getting nowhere in this little dispute, doesn't it? SF, Maureen and Heather...I salute you for your comments on this thread... Please and Ray, I am very sorry that you still feel the need to post in the way in which you do, which Heather so correctly pointed out, prevents whatever truth in your messages from being heard, because your arrogance just overshadows everything else... I hope that this site overcomes this problem, and that eventually EVERYONE who posts here will do so in the same manner in which they would speak to their parents...with respect and compassion.

Thanks SF... Btw..I just accidentally clicked on your profile and found the following Birth Day details for you: 16 November 1906...are you REALLY going to be 99 this year!!!! ??? :)

True Shanstress..there are Members too, that I would miss...SF would be amongst them...I'm not going to list all the others cos it's most of the usual crew! lol. I hope that this day would never come either...

I wonder how Carlotta is doing? Did she manage to stay with the thread once it spread to all the other topics and so many pages!!! Please, Carlotta...get back in touch and let us know how you're doing? :)

Hmmm...I see what you mean SF... I've been arguing with myself lately, about being slaves to big businesses and supermarkets, and how it's so difficult not to be... In some respects I feel it would be great if we could each find our own trusted farmers/food suppliers/stockists, locally, that we trust and just start trading with them instead... I also look at this from a vegetarian's point of view...in that I would prefer to obtain fresh vegetables that have been organically grown, without harmful pesticides being used, (animal and human friendly!), from somebody I know produces them the way I prefer, and I'm sure people buying meat/fish/poultry would also prefer this to the mass production foodstuffs offered in chain stores, where we are not certain that the goods they state are Organic really are organic, or that the animals sold for our consumption have been treated well prior to their slaughter. Personally, I know one or two people who grow their own herbs and veg, and others that produce their own preserves, and we all belong to Lets, and do not charge money for these products when exchanged amongst members of the scheme...I'm hoping to start to 'purchase' more of the good I need from those people...

Shanstress...if the board tightens up so much that it's too uncomfortable for non LDS to post...or the day comes when we're not allowed to post at all...I hope we will be given enough notice so that we can get ourselves our own little space on the net to carry on chatting!
-
I don't think that the posts should be tightened up as such. I think that we should all think carefully before we post, how our words will translate to people who cannot see us, or know more about us...words are not often enough to get your true feelings about a matter across to somebody, and can be misleading. I would recommend some of the suggestions that SF made in reply to the PM that Spencer received...regarding adding a disclaimer into the introduction, and also having a password protected area (passwords to be issued to those posters over an agreed age...and by request to Heather) in which posts relating to 'adult', sexual issues ought to be kept, in order to avoid very young viewers being introduced to these topics before they are ready.
-
Heather, I am always pleased to read your well balanced views on what is going on around here. SF I agree that maybe the LDS members ought to display the fact that the are LDS so that guests/non-members/investigators will know which of the posts are from members and which aren't. Also your disclaimer about the views posted not necessarily being those held by the LDS church is a good point. I wonder whether, because of the 'adult' nature of some posts recently, these kinds of posts should be posted in a section which is password protected, for those viewers who are over a particular age, which you feel is suitable for them to be reading such posts...I'm referring to the posts in which sexual issues are mainly discussed...the passwords could be issued via Heather, to those members whom she KNOWS are at or above the age applicable?

'His ambitions and work ethic have deteriorated substantially, and he's becoming so vulgar and profane. I really don't want my sons to think this type of behavior is acceptable. Please don't rip me to shreds for wanting the best for my kids.' Owsar, I'm sorry to hear that these parts of your relationship have been so badly affected too...please try to talk to him about how you can reach a suitable compromise so that you may all be happy together...

Hiya Elinor... Welcome to the site...I'm not LDS either... Please note the Open Forum at the foot of the forums page if you have any 'dodgy' items you wish to post about! :) Enjoy yourself...
-
Thank you Jason, I suspected it might be...never mind.

Hiya Kal, Hope you enjoy yourself posting on here!

Please, thank you for your links regarding Adam...from D&C and Book of Moses...please can you tell me whether or not the Book of Moses is LDS scripture, in addition to the Bible, or whether it is a Bible scripture? Sorry to appear quite dim here, but it's a while since I've seen what all the books of the O.T. are...I get confused sometimes as to which quotes on this site are from the Bible or from other LDS literature!

I went on a full time mission... after serving a stake mission while waiting for my younger brother and sister to come home first... however... my father thought I should go when 21... and did... I knew I would be a missionary all of my childhood... It was a strong drive in me... maybe because both my parents served missions... Yet... when I went up before the high councel ... a full roomful of them... they told me that I was too pretty to go on a mission and shouldn't I be getting married instead... how uncool was that? Now my daughter was denied a mission because she had been put on a drug for her seizures whilein elementary school which was also used for bi-polar disorders... She has now been denied a temple recommend twice because she wasn't getting married or going on a mission and she is 25... It doesn't seem right somehow... ← Please, I think that it's terrible the kind of discrimination that your daughter appears to be getting...has anybody questioned the validity of the refusals for her temple recommends or her missionary status...surely her medication issues should have been fully investigated before she was refused a mission on those grounds! I would be most upset if that was to happen to my daughter in similar circumstances...

Do you have any alternatives to suggest using Traveller?

Good response Dis... I must admit that I have downloaded extensively, and I don't often buy the CDs when they are eventually released, however I'm pretty poor so that's my excuse! LOL

I've only just come across this thread, and have forced myself to vote and post without reading any of the comments by other posters..so here goes: I voted Other, because I feel that questioning the beliefs of any group isn't necessarily Anti that group... The only time that I feel somebody is truly Anti something, be it religion or something else, is if they strongly disagree with everything that it stands for, and believes that its existence is harmful for its followers and for all others who's its existence affects, and so seeks to destroy it. I will now read the other points of view :)
-
LOL...sorry Jason...I just sort of feel as if I'm on some sort of soapbox this week...can't help bringing out all the old cliches!!! :)
-
I'm not wishing to turn this into a political debate...but that is one of the key reasons why I disagree with capitalism as it is today...(Sorry if I don't know enough about capitalist vs socialist societies...I learned a little at college many years ago, and have read up on it occasionally over the last few years), but I just feel that the whole of the world should work together to help those who live in countries which are so badly affected by inclement weather, natural disasters and such, and, to quote the organisers of Live Aid many years ago: FEED THE WORLD!!! Let's not be so greedy folks?
-
I agree that they should pay out to families across the board... A better idea might be to reconsider rebuilding at all, in any areas which are high risk...why would people want to live in such hazardous places ever again?!!!

You're welcome :)

Can you point me to an article which traces how Adam had the first rituals? where it was written that he had, please?
