  1. CAN YOU HANDLE GOD'S WAYS BAT? Apologies for swear word inside the picture!
  2. I'm glad I don't live in your house Mr. (I presume) Anderson...your way of speaking down to people really stinks! (! added because K. Anderson loves to use them too...lol)...I DO hope you don't speak to your family in this manner...
  3. Condolences to you and your family Snow...
  4. Happy Birthday Biz!!!!
  5. Maybe this link will give you some info. from their own website, but if you want some objective info. you might want to do a further Google search and read some other websites... http://www.scientology.org/
  6. WriterChick, I wish you and your family the best of luck for the future, in your current ward and in the one to which you will be moving. It is a pity that some people are prejudiced against single parent families... I think you are very brave in your decision to carry on attending church SMILING, in spite of whatever response or non-response you get from the other members you meet there...I hope that by seeing you smiling and saying hello to them on a regular basis, they might have their consciences pricked enough to make them think twice about their stereotypical judgements of you and your family... Idacat...you have been through a terrible ordeal and I admire you for your strength at coming through it all as you have! Well done...
  7. Idacat, it took me till just over 3 years ago before I could bring myself to read any Catherine Cookson books! My mum, sister and most of my women friends had been reading her stuff for years whilst I had been reading mainly Danielle Steel books and some of the Horror/Sci-fi stuff instead. I had read one or two of the Josephine Cox books, which were set in Lancashire, where I live, so I could relate to those better...I still haven't read more than a handful of the Catherine Cookson books, but I will get through my collection eventually. I am a book freak, everywhere I go I end up buying about 6 or so books...if I can get them 2nd hand I prefer to, but it isn't always possible, unfortunately. So, the movies? were you talking about TV Movies based on novels? I know that quite a few of the Catherine Cookson novels have been made into tv mini-series and then released onto video/dvd, so you might be able to find some? I like my movies similar to the kinds of books I like, however I'm a sucker for kids movies and comedies too...Just found a link to that Vera Drake movie you mentioned, I've never seen it but it sounds very interesting...I will search for it...thanks.
  8. My best wishes for a speedy recovery go out to all who have been injured in this war...
  9. Care to post a link to that list Cal? please...then I don't have to try to guess which of the many LDS sites it's on...or rather which of the 'anti'? sites it might be on...thanks! :)
  10. Yes MEEEEeeeeeeee!!!!!! STOPPIT I WANNA GET OFF!!!!!
  11. Idacat, we seem to share a love of similar kinds of books, I've read one or two books by some of the authors you've mentioned. I love all forensic/psychological thrillers, but also have a bit of a bloodlust about me so I love to read gory books and horror fiction too...even a little sci-fi these days, due to the influence of one of my male friends...now and again I read some of the British 'period history' type books, by the likes of Catherine Cookson and Josephine Cox...there are tons of these books in Britain, mainly read by women, which tell of British families - mainly working class - in the late 19th and early 20th Centuries...fictional and sometimes a little too romantic for my likes, but a good escape and a good source of historical facts without resorting to text books. I do enjoy reading non fiction books too, especially again books concerned with crime and psychology and history...
  12. I'm finding the details of your spiritual journey very interesting Jason...I understand entirely how you can become engrossed in the search for the 'right answers' and find yourself walking many paths during that search...good luck and enjoy yourself along the way! :)
  13. Thank you Jenda! :)
  14. Just thought I'd add something to what Bizabra was saying about it not being necessary to be a part of a religious organisation in order to serve your community well. I agree with her statement. There are many local community groups in my part of East Lancashire, which are not based on any religions. Some of the people who are members of these community groups are part of religious organisations but their involvement with the community groups does not require them to be a part of any religious organisation as well. For instance, I am a part of LETS, which is a local trading scheme in which people share goods and skills with each other without having to pay for those goods or services/skills. People from all parts of the community are members of this scheme, if they wish to be, and benefit not only from being able to obtain goods they might not otherwise be able to afford, or have jobs done around their houses which they might not be able to afford to have done, they also benefit from forming new friendships and find that they are inspired to look inside themselves and recall their own skills and feel confident in using them to aid others. This is a completely non-religious trading scheme, and it is very successful. I am also a member of Burnley Anarchists and we, via a web forum, flyers word of mouth, and by attending their meetings help other lobbying groups in our district which are fighting for such things as better working conditions for people who are casually employed either at home or by temping agencies, better housing and environmental issues amongst others. Again, we and the lobbying groups we support are totally non-religious based, however we feel that we are helping our communities and each other and are forming many new friendships. Our family members are included in our activities whenever they choose to be included, therefore we are not neglecting the needs of our families either...in fact we often have social get-togethers for the members and their families.
  15. Jenda, thanks for your post explaining your current state of beliefs. It was very interesting. I may be being a little 'dim' here, but I just wondered about your references to the Early Christian Church, the Restoration and the scripture, (Matthew 16 : 18).Are you saying that you believe that the Church Christ established on earth is still around and is not in a state of apostacy? Therefore, can you tell me the name of this Church, if you believe it has one? (I'm sort of relating this to Jason's 'past' theories regarding the Orthodox Church being the one true Church that Christ established on earth, and wondering if you feel the same way as he did about this, or whether you think another true church still exists?) And, are you confirming that you do not believe in Joseph Smith and his 'restoration' of the Gospel whether that be according to the LDS, RLDS or CoC versions? I apologise if you have already answered these questions, I just want to make it clear in my own mind that I have understood your responses up to now. I think it is very brave of you to write about your experiences on these matters.
  16. Teehee...I agree with Shawn I'm afraid...much more amusing!
  17. st_garvan2...don't tell me you spent about an hour googling for references to Brad Pitt starring in that movie and being a Mormon too? Care to share a blushing smilie with me!!!? LOL
  18. Edited because I was soooo STUUPID!!!! LOL I won't bother telling you the rest, I'm sure you can guess (is there an embarrassed/blushing smilie I can borrow?)
  19. This is one of the very rare moments when I agree with Traveller...I don't think attending church just for the sake of it, or because you are told to do so, is such a big issue, but I agree with his sentiments regarding loving and serving one another...
  20. As the following link suggests, this can be a very serious issue indeed, and a dangerous one if taken too far! Please read... http://mathaba.net/x.htm?http://mathaba.ne....shtml?x=245417
  21. Yes, they are not as worthy to God as you and I are. After all, they belong to the wrong sect of Christianity. Jesus will let them burn in hell for not accepting the right sect of Christianity. They will all burn in hell for not accepting the right Jesus. BURN! You are being sarcastic I assume? otherwise you seem to have some crazy problems! and ideas!
  22. Hiya everybody...SF, thanks for raising this topic...My internet was suspended for 2 weeks and I had to use the net. at my friends' houses, which wasn't always the best environment in which to read message boards, especially this one where posts can be rather long and sometimes complicated...I'm sorted out for now, so back to reading in peace and posting along with everyone else. My garden has recently had a makeover...a wish came true when a local chap knocked on my door a couple of weeks back, and asked if I would like him to work on it for me...because I am a lone parent and disabled he offered me a very cheap rate too!! I was so amazed that when it was completed I invited him and many others to a BBQ party to celebrate...we held this on Saturday evening and it was fab! My daughter has just left school (she's 16) and is currently sitting her GCSE exams, and is hoping to go to college to study Child Care...she has had lots of physical problems over the last 2 years, and as a result missed almost a year of studying, so I'm really hoping that she has got the kind of results that she is hoping for... Apart from that, my life has been pretty much the same as usual...helping out with the LETS trading scheme and Evolving Minds mental health self help group, and attending local Anarchist meetings...trying to sort out the world and it's problems! LOL... Nice to see you all again...
  23. Jason, I agree with you...I think it is cruel to not allow non-LDS parents/family members to attend the sealings in the Temple...
  24. Happy birthday Jason... I can't post on here as often these days people, I'm off the net. at home so having to borrow my friends' pcs!! Cya round :)
  25. HAPPY BIRTHDAY EVERYBODY!!!!
