I've never interpreted that scripture as Jesus' endorsement of religious war. It sounds much more to me that he's talking about the war or conflict in families that is destined to occur when a person decides to follow Christ above the objections of the family. Thank you Curvette...that is how I always interpreted those scriptures too...it was interesting to see them interpreted in a different way...

OUUUUWHOOOOOL......(SUPPOSED TO BE A HOWL OF PAIN!) LOL

I was taught in a Catholic school until the age of 6, when I was transferred to a 'special school' for disabled children...We were taught there a basic knowledge of God and Jesus, without any particular emphasis on any one religious belief. I am sure that there were other pupils in the school, belonging to other Religious denominations, and that they received their 'main' religious education outside of school hours, as I did when I took my First Holy Communion Lessons...I don't see why this cannot be the situation in schools now...not teaching one particular religion, but teaching about others' beliefs in God and Jesus and just a general teaching of Christ's message to 'love thy neighbour as thyself' or words to that effect!

As in all things....History is written by the victorious!'

LOL...I bet he does!!! I try to avoid any conversations concerning our previous televisual delights when I see him..lol. He really is the sort who takes it ALL TOO SERIOUSLY!!!! Even shaved his head because of Jean Luc Picard, when his hairline was receeding...he finally accepted that it would be okay to be bald!! LOL...

Thanks Amillia...that is a very interesting reply...If you don't mind, I'm going to reprint it on the bagism forum and see what FrankJ has to say about it...it would be very interesting to see what he thinks of the words of Jesus...I must admit that I find them very disturbing...

Awwwww...that's a wonderful story Winnie...you should all reward him for his extra work!!! What a guy

But Jenda! You don't know what it's like!!!! Living with Captain Kirk/Picard for that many years.... Setheus...my ex is one of those losers! He refers to himself as The Admiral now, and my 2 kids (on the weeks when they stay with him), are referred to by some other lower rank (can't remember the name of it now...Trekkies will know!)...at one time he had replaced our wedding pix...after we divorced, of course, with photos of Captain Picard, with his face inserted!!!! ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.....ALL THESE MEMORIES ARE BRUISING ME!!!!!

This is a thread I found on another site I visit often... www.bagism.com It caught my attention because of it's reference to Religion and obviously because it's by one of my favourite singers, John Lennon...The following is a post from one of the other members of that web forum, FrankJ, from the UK...I tend to agree with many of his posts on all sorts of issues and thought this would be an interesting one to bring to this forum...what are your thoughts please? Yeah, you could argue that God is just God, religion is all the dogma, rituals, Latin, in-fighting, rules, books, sacraments, sects, divisions, wars, suppression, mind-control, etc - all the stupid things that muddy the clarity of one all-powerful creator being. I’m an atheist, but I’ll grant the theists the possibility of a God. What I don’t think, though, is that this pure and all-powerful being would be very happy about either the war and divisions that are wrought in his name, or that people are so arrogant that they think they know the best way to worship him. I really doubt any kind of genuine creator of ALL THINGS – this is all things, don’t forget, from planets to waterfalls to people to lions to EVERYTHING!! – would insist that he be praised in Latin, or that you need to stand a particular way to do it, or wear a particular colour robe, or indeed would be so insecure that he needed all that constant buttering-up and praise. Give the guy a break! If you think about it, really think about what you do when you go to church, it’s pretty funny if you imagine the most powerful being EVER would really be impressed by any of it. I think it’s funny. People do all this for their own benefit anyway – I can’t imagine him saying, “Well, I would answer that prayer, but he didn’t put his hands together or kneel or say Amen at the end”, or “Well, that guy’s a Jew, so he’s out”. Incidentally, do you get the impression that when you say, “I don’t believe in God” many theists take that to mean, “I do believe there is a God, I just choose to ignore Him and His works”. It’s worded badly – it should be “I don’t believe there is a God”. http://www.bagism.com/webboard/msg/14829.html

Funny that you are considered "non-Mormon" with 87% Orthodoxy? Are you not a member of the Church? That might explain it... Yeah...I used to attend the Mormon church services and socials etc. (live the lifestyle) for 5 years... I would like the terms and the %'s and the following results: Blissfully nonMormon -3 Orthodoxy, 1 LDS knowledge, -16 Cultural homogeneity explained to me a little better...for a start, I think I ought to look up the meaning of the word homogeneity! I thought the % results were how you compared with others taking the test who were the same age/gender band as yourself, and not particularly anything to do with your knowledge of the Church? Please explain, I'm confused!!!
-
Blissfully nonMormon -3 Orthodoxy, 1 LDS knowledge, -16 Cultural homogeneity -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Orthodoxy ranges from (-) anti-, non- and liberal Mormon, to mainstream, conservative, and fundamentalist Mormon (+). You don't hate Mormonism or anything; to each his own. Giving up sex, alcohol, and 10% of your income to a church that puts saccharine "family" commercials on TV just seems like a bad deal to you. My test tracked 3 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender: You scored higher than 87% on Orthodoxy You scored higher than 37% on LDS knowledge You scored higher than 37% on Homogeneity

Thank you Curvette :) Snow, if I DO find any absolute evidence, then I will post it here :)
-
Help me out Pushka, You admit that you know of absolutely no evidence to stop the claims. You know that some of the claims are obviously false (anti-gravitational and opens up parallel dimesions) and that some claims are so silly that they are stupid (increases serendipity) and yet you think that there might be something to it? What's up with that? Snow...You say that I KNOW that some of the claims are false and that others are SO SILLY THAT THEY ARE STUPID...I don't claim that at all...I say that I have no other evidence than that which I have presented so far, and that I am willing to investigate that evidence with an open mind...perhaps I wil learn in the future that some of it is false and stupid, perhaps I and the rest of us wil learn that it is not...who knows? Some of the things that we thought were silly/stupid and false 50 years ago concerning the universe have been proved to be nothing of the sort...

Hey...Amillia and Maureen...I don't mind you hijacking the thread! really...lol Yep, you're right again Snow...I have only the proof of the websites and the film which I watched recently...:) LOL re: ridicule :)
-
Just to bring this thread back to it's original topic, and at the risk of more ridicule...I just thought I'd post a link from an ebook, which can be purchased for $4. This website gives quite a long excerpt from the book, and it is quite interesting... I still do not know if I believe in the properties of the powder, but I do believe that it has been found in places and that NASA is investigating its uses, and at least 1 electrical co. in the USA is using it. http://www.mittymax.com/Archive/0081-Manna...ldOfTheGods.htm
-
Just gonna try this...see if it works...if it does, the website which hosts my pix is www.photobucket.com In www.photobucket.com you first create an account for yourself, free of charge. Then you browse your folders on your hard drive for the pic you wish to add, and when you've submitted it, it will appear with 3 posting options underneath it...as Snow advised, you copy/paste the 3rd option img. but make sure you shade the full link. good luck

Thanks Bizabra...my friend and I chuckled a few times, considering it might be the white powder of Heroin too!!! There are more facts about it's existence, but I must admit I haven't delved that far yet, online or otherwise, to show you the links, as to it's powers, perhaps they worked in it's pure state many centuries ago, when ingested, but diluted I agree it would be barely of any use at all...if any. If anyone wants to search out any more links to this, as the powder was said to have been discovered on a farmer's land in the USA and high above the Mount on which Moses received the Ten Commandments, in a newly discovered Egyptian temple, and was supposedly referred to as 'bread', although given different names by Egyptians and Jews, (not Manna, btw), and was supposedly fed to the Pharoas in conical shaped 'loaves'...perhaps you could post something else here about it...when I have less to do next week, I will try researching it a little better...:)

It's great to see that you're including a wider variety of book reviews here, not just Church books... I'm very interested in Serial Killers and psychology in general, and agree that we all seem to have a 'secret desire' to know all the gory facts...lol, graphic detail! However I don't mind a more clinical approach to a subject too, once in a while...I might find myself reading this book one day... Thanks Snow.

LOL everybody...and thanks for the 'let's not turn this into a Bash Pushka thread' Idacat... I was introduced to this 'theory' and the film by a friend of mine who I consider to be very talented, intellegent and yet very open-minded on most subjects...I was, at first, very surprised that he believed this theory held any truth, we are both sceptical on people selling this substance heavily diluted! I don't think either of us knows if we really believe any of it, we are just seeing what is out there on the Net about it all, from Nasa to some electrical company in the US, and trying to see if it is real, and if it can explain any of the strange events surrounding Moses and the Golden Calf, in the Bible. We are taking this in a very light humoured fashion, and my friend has been joking with me about buying his own metal detector as he doesn't want to purchase the stuff online, he wants to process it himself...although no-one is giving THAT secret away!!! Have fun everybody!!
-
Gosh...I think I'll come back to this thread later...so much to read since I looked at it late last night!!! I can't believe it...:)
-
Ok Snow..I appreciate your comments and views on the above...just thought it might be an interesting subject to bring into the discussions...good to hear other people's points of view...:)
-
Thanks for the link Jason...I'm a little tired to read it just now but have saved it to my favourites folder for another time...

Good luck with coming thru your difficult time Sgallan...I haven't really explored much of the Eastern Philosophies yet, but what I have read really sounds good to me...
