Amillia, do you find it difficult to accept that Jesus could appear, as a person, to someone living today? Or are you just uncertain of this because you do not yet know if that person is LDS or not...would your opinion alter if you found he/she was LDS? Would that strengthen your belief that they had seen Jesus and not Satan?

Well done Faerie, those are beautiful pix!

Utah is not the best place for an inactive Mormon to live. But for family reasons, we have to stay here...for now. Sorry to hear that Tao...hope your situation improves so that it is not too uncomfortable for you whilst you still have to live there.
-
Do you have to have a legitimate reason to move out...if you wanna move anyway, just do it...:)

Srm...the unfortunate truth about paedophiles is that they do not only have sexual relations with boys, they do the same with girls too...yes, there will be some homosexual paedophiles, but there are also heterosexual ones too.
-
Tao, I think you have some really good ideas there...I attended a workshop recently about emotions and emotional control and it was a great lesson in learning how our emotions are formed, through stimulation either negative or positive, and how our emotional growth can become stunted through being ignored/no stimulation. It was very revealing... I agree that all of our children should be able to explore their emotions through some sort of workshop in schools as often the emotional baggage we acquire is from our homes/parents' situations and our reactions to the events taking place there. PD...I asked about the police force in the UK...apparently none of our force are armed when they are not on duty. They do not carry arms as such, the police who are assigned to a situation where arms are required are sent out in special patrol cars which contain the guns they need and ammo. They are required to return the vehicle to the police station after dealing with the situation and taking all ammo out of the guns. Therefore they do not have these guns/patrol cars at their homes at all.

I must admit, PD, that I am unsure of the answer to this...except to say that the majority of our police force do not carry guns...only the S.W.A.T. teams to my knowledge...or those on specialised duties maybe...I know a few teens who have parents that are in the force however, so I can make enquiries...Just seems that our 2 countries have such a different viewpoint towards guns in general...and perhaps this is reflected in the number of incidents of teens shooting up schools etc. using their parents guns in the States, opposed to older (20's/30's) gangsters or whatever you like to call them using guns on each other over here.

I do not like this idea of a Caste system in Heaven...I know Amillia quoted that piece from the bible about there being 'many kingdoms' in Heaven, to support the LDS claims of this...and you believe that revelation to JS or whichever president/prophet of the church, revealed all this, but it still sounds terrible to me that God, if he exists, would do this to the people who followed him as righteously as they were able to...separate families, even the idea of owning your own planet on which you are a God sounds farcical to me...who dreamt that one up? and where's the bible quotes to support it? Just sounds to me like someone had a 'superiority complex' in the early church...mental illness perhaps?

I live in the UK and we don't have as much access to guns as you do in the States...we still have the occasional shooting incident as you seem to witness so often...tragic no matter how many times it occurs...I feel that having more access to guns in general can't help but make it easier for these events to occur. I do believe the parents of the teens involved should be more careful about how they store such weapons, and also should be more aware of their teens' political persuasions, such as supporting Neo-Nazi groups, if they are able to find out this information...It is a very frightening thought that so many young people are still easily taken in by these groups and their beliefs.

Some good points/comments from both of you...MBASS I still wish you luck in removing those remaining post pregnancy pounds...I was fortunate following the birth of my 2 children, that I lost the excess pounds very quickly...a combination of nerves (due to fretful babies syndrome! lol) and exercising ie. lots of walking, pram pushing. I gained my weight as my heart problems, which I was born with, made me more sedentary...however, following heart surgery I did manage a good gym routine for 2 1/2 years, and lost all the weight I had gained at that time. Well recommended as you say Disruptive1. This time I have no excuse for gaining excess weight, apart from severe depression which has seen me bed bound for days on end in the past, and which made me stoop into an almost alcoholic state...that is why I have the extra problems of high blood pressure and diabetes...certainly paying for my sins! Anyway, I have started to eat regularly, 3 times a day, lowish carb. intake and increased fruit and veg. intake, and have attempted to start walking again...and as I said earlier, am likely to be at least fit enough to start the gym soon...so keeping my fingers crossed again!

Should there be an aphostraphe in Lets too? lol...I do get mixed up with apostraphes in the word its sometimes! I didn't guess the missing letter without reading the title again, btw...well spotted! :)

LOL, interesting theory... Love your Signature!!

Thank you MBASS, much appreciated!

Thanks for the website recommend, MBASS...I don't subscribe to any websites on which you have to pay a fee...most likely because I don't have the facilities to pay! However I know that you can still read some of the message boards on some of these sites, which I find very helpful. I do agree with you, Disruptive1, that it might be cheaper to join a gym, and that would be an ideal situation for most people, depending on their general health. Unfortunately, some people have additional problems such as high blood pressure, diabetes etc. and the gym might not be the first option for them, until those problems have become more controlled. I have a high blood pressure problem, and it is slowly getting better with the help of medication, I am waiting for my doctor to give me the 'okay' to go to a gym on a prescription! so won't have to pay the full fee... I wish you luck MBASS, wish I only had a few pounds to lose...lol...will let you know how I get on with my 'healthier' diet now... :)

Nobody is saying that a child should not be cared for by his/her mother and father...some of us are only stating that in the absence of a loving father and mother relationship to the child, there are alternatives which will do the child no harm whatsoever, including being raised by homosexual partners...this is in spite of their behaviour being considered by you and some others as cognitive or not...how they treat the child they are raising is a whole different ball game to how they conduct themselves in the privacy of the bedroom.
-
In what way is soceity offering social rewards for children 'experimenting sexually'? How do you know that children are doing that anyway?...this is your assumption based upon your beliefs about homosexuality. You really are beginning to sound very desperate over the issue of homosexuality, equating it first to child abuse and now to violence in movies...

Sounds like he's frustrated!! LOL

That's a lovely link Strawberry...and that Hymn, How Great Thou Art...beautiful...it was played at my grandma's funeral...very touching.

Snow and PD...I agree with you that many Christians in other denomenations(sp?) Catholic, Protestant or other, probably do not know a great deal of their history too...However, the difference that I was pointing out was that many non LDS believe that the whole foundation of the Church was built around lies and fantasy... As far as the RCC is concerned, it is pretty clear from what I have learned from Jason and other Christians I've met, and from the reading I have done since, that it broke away from Christ's original church around 1054, and so might not be considered the true church any longer...that is why I wanted to learn more about the Orthodox church and whether it had stayed true, over the last 2000 years or so, to Christ's original 'Catholic' (meaning universal) church. We all know that Protestant churches were offshoots from the RCC church's CofE church which was 'created' via Henry VIII, so cannot be the true churches... Sorry, I seem to have gone a little off topic there, but I was just trying to explain why it was so different for members of the LDS church to be aware of their beginnings, in order to know whether or not their doctrines are based on reality or not... I tend to believe that all Christians, who follow their religions and do no harm to others, will be saved, as long as they repent of their sins and do not repeat them if possible...

I vote Yes because I used to love Bat's posts, and found most of them very informative. I do think that we all need to temper our emotions from time to time on here, but I must say that I have found some very insensitive posts on here recently which I feel might be much worse than anything I remember Bat posting in the past. I have been away from the board for a while, so I didn't see any of the attacks on Faerie, and obviously personal attacks by anybody are not acceptable, so I do hope that this sort of thing will not happen to anybody again.
-
Snow, I hear you and I tend to agree overall..although I don't know the ins and outs of this case so cannot really comment, I agree with you that generally this sort of 'life' is barely an existence which I would not consider a happy one for myself if I were to end up that way.
-
Lol...fantastic, both of them!!
-
I'm sorry Amillia, I didn't mean that you were preventing anybody from leaving the church, I was referring more to the assumption that everybody who leaves the church for the reasons given, after pondering and praying as to whether they have correct information or not, is not fully dedicated to the Lord...
-
I would hate to see any of your children, when you have them, die from a tragic accident of any nature...surely at that point you would be eating the words that you have so insensitively posted on here.Jenda, I agree that it was a silly thing for the parents to send their child to bed still wearing the bathrobe, but these things do occur...accidents are accidents and the human mind unfortunately does overlook the obvious sometimes!

In your first post you refer to the anti argument that Mormons are uninformed about their faith and doctrines...I was under the impression that they were uninformed about the true history of the church, which antis seem to refer to lots in order to undermine the teachings of JS and BY rather than about the faith and its doctrines...is that not more likely the anti argument? I am not surprised that Mormon kids are found to be generally less active in smoking pot, drinking etc. as it is taught to them in their 'societies' within the Church anyway...which is good. Perhaps it would be useful for other religions to stress the importance of these doctrines more to their congregations...
