  1. He said "The examples you cite pose an immediate and acute health and/or safety risk, which second hand smoke does not." - secondary smoking can cause cancer. That seems pretty much a health risk to me.
  2. Wow do you genuinely believe that passive smoking is not a health risk? Especially to children? Not much I can say if you honestly think that.
  3. God didn't ban alcohol consumption with a law or commandment either but it is still illegal to drink and drive. Some people choose to raise their kids by beating them black and blue and I believe we have laws against that too. If something is proven to be harmful to someone else would we be wrong in trying to prevent people from forcing it upon somepne else as with passive smoking or shouldwe just sit back and ignore it? I know I am thankful that smoking in public places isno longer permitted here because now I can go there and enjoy myself without coming home reeking of stale tobacco and feeling sick.
  4. I don't think people realise how awful passive smoking is. In the UK if you use your car for business purposes or even transport a work colleague I believe you are not suppose to smoke in it by law, but I don't know if that still applies with your own children. If some of them were someboy else's children it would probably be valid.
  5. I haven't seen that. Have you got a link?
  6. Sarah, I am not clear which "other pseudonyms" you are referring to here now. I am only aware of this one, "Br0therBear" which you used when you couldn't access this one, and "friend of" who told us you had passed away. I said it was unfair to accuse you of being "friend of" without concrete proof and am still of that opinion - innocent until or unless proven guilty, but surely you are not denying that "BrotherBear" and "Br0therBear" are both you?
  7. Good luck. I really hope this all works out for you.
  8. Guys, would it really hurt any of us to give BrotherBear the benefit of the doubt?
  9. BrotherBear, I don't think Wisc can do that as he is not a moderator, but the moderators should be able to clear this up for you.
  10. lol Jena, I just sent a PM to Pam asking that very same question!
  11. Well I was reminded that we are not supposed to be in the entertainment business, which is a pity because the sisters enjoy getting togther just to have fun. I wouldn't like to think anyone else tried the same thing and got into bother over it.
  12. I was told by the RS Pres (who was not at the activity) before we did it that she had OK'd it with the Bishop but yesterday I was told by her 1st counsellor (who was there) that the Bishop was not happy afterwards with what we had done. That's all I know.
  13. No,God is not sadistic. He wants so much to save us from eternal punishment that he provided a way for us to be able to escape that Hell. Jesus Christ is that way and he loves us so much he was willing to take the punishment for us so that we don't have to endure it. That isn't sadim. That is compassion and mercy and love.
  14. You can be a missionary right where you are. You may find your eternal companion in a girl who was born into the church, or in a convert like yourself, or in someone you bring into the church. Then you can look forward to one day serving a mission togther with your wife as a retired couple.
  15. I am one of those who thanked FriendofBrotherBear for the news he brought and asked him/her to pass on my sympathy to the family. The reason I have only just reponded to this thread is that I have only just come here and seen it. Please do not judge everyone without knowing circumstances. I would be interested to know BrotherBear's reaction to the linked thread.
  16. Celica, do you have an experienced VT companion or is this her first time too? I agree with everything that has been said so far but would just like to add one thing. When you and your companion meet up, before you visit, pray together that you will be guided to know the needs of the sisters you visit.
  17. I have just learned that this additional Relief Society meeting was not approved of by our Bishop. I don't know what we did wrong and all the sisters enjoyed it but it seems we are not supposed to enjoy ourselves at church meetings these days. I hope no-one here has thought of trying it in their own ward. I wouldn't like to get anyone else into trouble
  18. I have always viewed "Unless you repent, God will destroy you." as a call to repentance not as a prophecy of imminent destruction. If I as a parent say to a child of mine "If you don't behave you get no pocket money this week." I am not hoping for a saving of cash I am hoping for a change of behaviour.
  19. We had that here for a while too and the answer was to give them tins of stuff they could cook for themselves. It doesn't really help the missioanries to feel part of the Ward though. I'm glad it has changed now. One problem we do still have though is they are supposed to come at 5pm and stay no longer than an hour but my OH doesn't get home from work until 5:30!
  20. That is possibly what you are doing wrong. He sounds very much like a spoilt child used to getting his own way.
