  1. Well here's what we ended up doing. We designated a star, moon and sun room for different activities. We had 'one way'signs aroundthe building to make sure people didn't go astray. First of all in the star room we had some sisters telling us inspiring stories about sisters in the Old Testament and the things which they did to support and inspire the men around them. Then on to the Moon where of our Presidency did a section to make all the sisters feel good about themselves and special before we moved on to ways of making the priesthood holders of the ward feel special. We did in the Sun room with a goup of craft workshops which included making thank you scrolls to give to the brethren each time any one of them did something we feel should be acknowledged and appreciated. My OH had made some wooden hearts for the sisters to paint and put their little slogans on to give to their husbands/boyfriends. We also made decorated card ones with cuttlebugged flowers and butterflies on. My daughter is very fond of cuttlebug in her scrapbooking and card making so she took charge of that. I took some photographs but not sure if I can post them here. We ended with refreshments (as always) in the shapes of sun moon and stars. (dainty little sandwiches, cookies, muffins
  2. It sounds more like a cruel prank to me than a service project and I would not be happy if someone's idea of service caused me a lot of unnecessary extra work.I have never come across this heart attacking idea here and certainly hopeit never catches on. Maybe OK to do to each other amongst friends but certainly not to older ward members or those with busy and hectic lives.
  3. Believing in God isn't the same as having faith in God. Satan belives in God.
  4. When my oldest daughter was born and we brought her home from the hospital she looked towards a picture of Joseph Smith that we have on the wall and reached out her arms towards him. It felt to me like she recognised who he was. A few years later we were visiting a town where none of us had ever been before and she said she recognised it and even described a building further along the road. When we got there is was just as she had described. Did she have memories of it from before her birth?
  5. I try to be obedient but fail miserably so perhaps that means I don't have enough faith. I don't sit back and do nothing but nothing I do seems to actually prove or acheive anything.
  6. That must be really tough. The place will seem so empty without her. Try to look for the positive if you can and keep in contact as much as possible. Will you be able to visit?
  7. Don't you get constantly badgered and hounded to find someone for the missionaries to teach? "Set a date" never worked for me so I was told I didn't have enough faith. We are always being told it is the missionaries' call to teach and the members' job to find people for them to teach. We must "grow the Ward", we must be "every member a missionary", we must "do it". We cannot enter the Celestial Kingdom alone. It's not just our current SP telling us this. It is mostly all we have been hearing for years, that and storage and genealogy - but mostly missionary, missionary, missionary.
  8. Won't Christ know you have faith in him without you needing to show him?
  9. I agree but it's good to have something positive against all the negative stuff put forth by people who simply want to criticise and condemn.
  10. I was just thinking - doesn't Jesus tell us we should worship the Father, not him? Also, in Gethsemane Jesus submitted himself to the will of his Father.
  11. I think it's good to learn church history warts an' all then it doesn't shock us when somebody presents us with a 'devastating revelation' because we already know about it and know that human beings are not perfect or else they'd have been translated.
  12. I get choked up singing 'I stand all amazed' but these past 2 days I have been very tearful over an 18 month old child crushed to death in a road accident here.
  13. I'm not looking for philosophies of men mingled with scripture. I'm looking for things church leaders may have said in the past on some subjects but which everyone, particularly newer menbers, may be unaware of. Surely it is better to know what a past prophet has said on a subject than to only hear what anti-Mormons have to say when they are trying to criticise our religion? If someone said to me "Your religion is contradictry because you claim you're going to rule over your own earth on one hand but here it says you're all going to live on the renewed earth and you can't have it both ways." I don't want to have nothing to say on the subject and leave them feeling vindicated. I want to know what my religion has to say on the subject if a past prophet has spoken on the matter as in "AS man is God once was,as God is man may become." If If didn't know that and told an anti that it was NOT church doctrine if they said we claim to be gods that gives them more cause to knock us. So instead of speculation I am actually looking for the exact OPPOSITE which is what I thought the opening poster of this thread was doing when faced with a similar situation.
  14. I looked at the blog and was a bit shocked by the language.
  15. I remember a (now inactive) sister coming out with something about there will be a Lamanite prophet when Christ comes again. I wonder if she got that from George P. Lee.
  16. But we keep having talks at church telling us we cannot go to the Celestial Kingdom alone we must bring others with us. Our Stake President just gave us this again in a talk in our Ward 2 weeks ago. I have not succeeded in bringing anyone into the church who wanted to stay and of my two children the youngest doesn't want to go to church any more and my husband has said he will never join.
  17. Presumably if you opt out you get none of the benefits. I wonder if anything like that exists here in the UK.
  18. The story to me is such a sad one because in the earlier years I found him very inspiring. He looks so old and rough now, like a homeless vagrant.
  19. We have 2 cats. This is Bracken: and this is Furby:
  20. Or they don't syphon money off for different purposes?
  21. That then is a far bigger difference between us than the terms 'Godhead' and 'Trinity'.
