BenRaines Posted September 26, 2008 Report Posted September 26, 2008 Capt. So true about having been there. My dad made his living working in a tire shop. I used to go down for "fun" and help. Can dismount, mount, balance a tire and put it on the car or truck. With tire tools and without. Have done it at home before with a large screwdriver and rubber mallet. Also used a rope to set the bead. Growing up on a farm, being poor, Eagle Scout, mission, military, law enforcement and every day living has allowed me to have an opportunity to do all those things. The ones I haven't done I have little interest in doing. We are going raftin up on the Payette river next fall. Ben Raines Quote

Iggy Posted September 27, 2008 Report Posted September 27, 2008 I am just wondering why there are women on here taking this "quiz." Are you trying to show us up or what??!! Nope. just showing you that these are not Male Only jobs.By the way Ben, my father only taught me how to change the tires, put on snow chains and fill my car with the proper fluids. All the rest I taught myself- unless I said that either husband #1 or #2 taught me.When the toilet is leaking all over the floor and husband is out drinking and too drunk to find his head with both hands and there is only enough money in the checking account to pay for the new toilet- then guess what, you learn how to install it or live without the toilet! My first husband was(he still is) alcoholic, drinking was more important to him than maintaining a functional home. If I didn't do it, then it never would have got done. There was never money to pay a pro to fix things. I also worked in a hardware store for 10 years - I listened to the pros, DIY'selfers, and I read nearly all of the manuals that comes with the tools. I also acquired some really good how to books. It is said that necessity is the mother of invention - it is also the incentive to learn to get it fixed/done/repaired. As for that woman's list - In My Opinion the things are silly and shallow. Oh, yes, I can bake bread, cook nearly any meal - if there is a receipe and it is in english- then I can make it. If there are directions & they are in english, then I can do it/fix it/assemble it.Side note here: From my years working in the hardware store -(it was a Mom & Pop operations - a True Value Hardware Store) At Christmas, we got flooded with phone calls on Christmas Eve starting at 6 pm (we closed at 6) from wives calling begging us if we had extra instructions on assembling: _____________ Fill in any item that states Not Assembled or Some/Assembly Required. They were calling because Husband had removed all of the items from the box, cut the box up and either burned in the fireplace/wood stove or out in the burning barrel and had also burned the assembly instructions. The second year I worked for TV- I took the instruction sheets/ manuals and made photocopies of them. The owner of the store would take one item each and have it assembled for display, that is when I would get the instructions. I then put these directions into a binder to save for Christmas. When we got the calls on Christmas Eve night, we had the directions, and we charged $3.00 for a copy. Quote

WANDERER Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 (edited) Honour...well not THROUGH the shirt sleeve material/ but via the arm holes. Every girl should know how to remove a bra without revealing anything....useful for when you're in hospital and they want to x-ray or attach little electronic things to you and they forget to remind you about the underwire problem. Oh...how I learnt...the great outdoors doesn't always have change room facilities. All Aussie girls are (or should be) quite proficient at changing their clothes modestly in impossible situations. Add that to your preparedness lists ; ) . For the novices:with shirt still on... unclip back of bra....drop one *now loose* bra strap through armhole and over your hand *allow to slide back in under shirt* and repeat on other side. Pull entire bra out through the other arm hole via strap. Edited September 28, 2008 by WANDERER Quote
